Hi all,

another question from anyone that may add their experience; I am considering SSI extractors and muffler for my 3 litre 911sc and while I appreciate that there is considerable cost can anyone vouch one way or the other as to their experience please? I'm looking for a more throaty sound while under load whilst still being quiet in normal driving as well as some extra horsepower. Any opinions are appreciated.

At my recent service I was told that I need to replace my "Front and Rear Rose Joint Assemblies". I'm not sure what they are and google isn't being very helpful... Are they the ball joint on the end of the Control Arm? I suspect that the "assembly" part means that the entire control arm needs replaced?

It seems expensive at 3k incl labour. I wouldn't mind getting a second opinion - who in Brisbane handles this sort of work well?

I see there's a forum topic for insurance, but it's empty. I was wondering if there's been a "which insurance/company is best" thread, could someone point me to it if they know of it?

Soo... which insurance is best? Who do you recommend?

One thing I've been wondering about - what do you do when you're not at fault, but have better insurance than the person who hit you?

I wasn't able to create a new post in the insurance topic... I don't know why.

Hi, has anyone got any tips for removing my splash - stone guards? The stick on ones in front of the rear wheels, they are getting discoloured with age (only 6 years) and I would like to take them off. A bit concerened with things like different fading on paint underneath to the rest of the surrounding area and possible paint damage during removal. I don't think I would need a panel beater for such a seemingly small job?

I recently read an article where one of the main reasons for Paul Walker's tragic death was put down to tyres that were too old and past their optimum grip levels.

I had a wheel balance and alignment done a few weeks ago and was pointed out to me that me still near new Michelin PS3s were 5 years old..... (made 16th week of 2011)

Now the question being, and it seems it may be a rather contentious one.... how old is too old?

From Bridgestone AU website;

"How old is too old?

This is a subject of much debate within the tyre industry and no tyre expert can tell exactly how long a tyre will last. However, on the results of experience many tyre companies, including Bridgestone, warrant their tyres against manufacturing and material defects for five years from the date of manufacture. Based on their understanding a number of vehicle manufacturers are now advising against the use of tyres that are more than six years old due to the effects of ageing."

So going by what they say my tyres need replacing very soon! I am yet to really push my 928 and not sure that I ever truly will on the road (for lots of factors) and currently they grip very well, but will they fail me when I really need them.....

But then again from Michelin AU

"1- Keep five years in mind

After five years or more in use, your tyres should be thoroughly inspected at least once per year by a professional.

2- Ten years is a maximum

If the tyres haven't been replaced 10 years after their date of manufacture, as a precaution, Michelin recommends replacing them with new tyres. Even if they appear to be in usable condition and have not worn down to the tread wear indicator.
This applies to spare tyres as well."

Oops my spare is the original tyre... can't buy them anymore anyway....

I started the car this afternoon after a short trip and the PCM would not load maps. All was working good during the initial trip. I have since reset the system but this did not work and it continues to hang on "loading maps" then switches to Park Assist, then shuts down and restarts. All then repeating as above. I have turned off car and restarted and used Park Assist but the problem remains. The car is still under warranty so unless someone can suggest a simple fix I will call PC Brighton on Tuesday and book it in.

Hi

I need a little help with my little gem.

Blew the air box to china a couple of weeks ago when it had its first backfire!!!! Not fun. Before it blew it ran perfect. Just got the new air box back in and now its missing on 1 cylinder. found which cylinder by pulling the leads off. swapped the injector to another cylinder and that cylinder wasn't firing. Aha! injector must have died during the sitting around for 6 weeks. Put a new injector in and now the engine pops and is still misfiring on that fuel line. I am supposed to take the wife away for a long weekend getaway so are limiting in spending weeks and 2 hours each night trying to locate the little gremlin that's doing this.

Has anyone got any ideas that will help me locate the cause.

Yes i put all new gaskets on the CIS system. The only other thing i did was removed the top of the fuel distributor to check the plunger and then put it back together.

In appreciation...
