Took my 996 c4s to sandown raceway on my first track day on the weekend. I have done a bit of Dragracing in the past but never been on track before. At first I was a bit nervous but after that I had a blast. I was a bit intimidated at firsts in the pits by all the supercharged HSV's, M3's and wrx Subaru's but once I got on track I realise how capable my car was. I was surprised how many cars had problems with overheating and their Break fading after five laps or so. After watching the video footage in my car I realised I had a bad habit of driving with one hand and leaning on the gearstick but other than that I was pretty happy with the way I went. Before the track day I like my car but now I love it.

So I was fortunate enough to get talked into this event by Snowman. Not a particularly difficult sell. But it was a fair undertaking to come from Perth. But in my view it was a bucket list items to drive that track, and the opportunities to do it in your own car outside of entering door to door racing are few and far between. Sooooo, over I went with some much appreciated logistics help from the Snowman once on the ground in Vic.

I would echo all of Snowies comments re the organisation of the event. It was very well run. The circuit itself is epic. It was complete sensory overload on the first session as the reality of lapping Bathurst was hitting home while winding through the concrete walls and cresting Skyline and descending through the dipper. Seen so many times from in car footage during coverage of major races.

The vide below is a segment of one of my sessions. Sadly no telemetry like Snowman.
This was a week ago but my video editing skills are poor (as you will see) so I take a while to get going. This is a great event and the Porsche Category was lightning overall (the slowest watercooled car was a 991 GT3...enough said!). Driving on the Adelaide F1 track against 991, 997 and 996 cups as well as a 991 RS was awesome fun, even though I saw the rear end of them sailing off into the distance! My quickest time was a 51.6, 996 cups were in the high 50s and early 51s and the 991 RS did a 51.2 so I was pretty happy with the old girl.

Headed out on the 25 June for my first Track day in the 911 at Lakeside Speedway in Queensland.
I prefer my mountain roads and spirited street driving, but as with many before me, am realising to explore the car's limits, its better to do it in a controlled environment.

The 993 3.6 was rebuilt at the beginning of the year, so I was keeping my engine in mind while racing (and hence short shifting).
For those that dont know my car, it was driven regularly on Eastern Creek by the previous owner, with a setup reflecting regular track use (polyurethane bushes, solid strut mounts, brake balancer). It really felt at home on the track and allowed my noob ass to get away with some very bad transitions.

A lot was learned on the day, many things Id never experienced before on the street, heat cycling of tyres being the biggest.

Any feedback, commenting, good or bad is appreciated

Hi Guys,

We had round 3 of the Porsche club NSW supersprint series held at Sydney Motorsport Park north circuit on the weekend. Being that we had some reasonable wet weather in the past week were hopeful the weather would be clear for the weekend, forecast was good, but unfortunately it rained on Saturday night leaving us with a damp track, It then rained again during the drivers briefing leaving the track with small rivers and standing water in parts. Quite tricky with the turbo to modulate the onset of torque compared to some of the GT3's linear power delivery. None the less still fun.

first session in the wet driving "gingerly" with a spin thrown in the mix between turn 6 and 7

https://youtu.be/Qrlc7hW8E0s

3rd session much faster track and managed a 1:09.9, not quite a PB but much happier with the time. Being able to use the power and grip chasing some GT3's always fun

Those of you that have driven at Sydney Motorsport Park aka 'the Creek' will know that this is a scary corner at the best of times. Here's a short video taken at WTAC where Paul McKinnon goes through T1 without braking having hit about 250kph down the main straight. Not for the feint hearted!

Tried a bit of editing with some in car and around the track video taken a few weekends ago at Wakefield Park. Best lap of 58.5 was pleasing.
