Thanks to tazzieman I now have this movie stuck in my head. I never knew of it till last night.

Filmed by Scott Hicks in 1982 around Adelaide it has a Silver 930 thrashing around South Australia.

You tube has the first 15 minutes of the film, but I can not find the rest of it without handing over my credit card details.

If anybody has the movie, or is better at extracting movies online. I would love to hear from you. I think the movie is a fairly B grade at best. Though I get a great kick out of the background details. The buildings, cars and local scenery. Takes me straight back to being 8 years old and first laying eyes on a silver 930 here in Adelaide.

I live in Belfast, Northern Ireland, and am the proud owner of an ex-Australian RHD 914 (1972) - it won the Porsche Club GB regional concours last month - see "Best in Show" photo. I am interested in the history of this car and more generally in the history of RHD conversions of 914s in Australia. My car was originally purchased in the US (traces of the US side repeaters can be seen within the front wings), it was originally Adriatic Blue but by the time it left Australia in 2009 (sold by Lorbek Luxury Cars of Port Melbourne) was its current "pearlescent purple" colour. The Australian reg. no was IXXI69 - indeed it still bears its last Australian tax sticker. The chassis/VIN is 4722916129. The RHD conversion is of a very high standard - unitary dash and sill-inset handbrake - I suspect done using either a kit shipped from Crayford in England or using the Crayford tooling after it was sold off by Crayford. I am the second UK owner of the car, having bought it in 2012. Photos include the dask/handbrake and also the car enjoying the Northern Ireland "spring" last year - conditions it probably never faced back in Oz!

Approximately 300 guests attended a cocktail party on Saturday evening (6-May-2017) at Porsche Centre Melbourne (PCM) in Collingwood.

Including guests from Porsche Germany, the party was to celebrate PCM being named Australia’s first and only Porsche Classic Partner.

Congratulations go to Porsche Centre Melbourne GM Piero Pellegrini and his team, both for achieving the Porsche Classic Partner status, and for the fantastic way in which the achievement was celebrated. Guests were ushered into the PCM Workshop where drinks and hors d’oeuvres were served. On view were dozens of pristine Porsche classic cars, an ideal setting to enjoy a series of presentations culminating in the official opening.

Once the formalities were dealt with, celebrations moved to the PCM showroom. With many more classic Porsches on display, a light dinner was on offer, with a full cocktail bar catering for refreshment. It was incredible to see, what would have to be one of the largest Porsche showrooms in the world, packed with the highest quality classic Porsches – not a new car in sight!

With over 70% of all Porsches ever manufactured, still on the road, Porsche Germany has moved to ensure Porsche can adequately meet the needs of their passionate Porsche Classic clientele. This is no minor undertaking as there is a wide range of Porsche Classic models for which the demand for parts, skills and service will endure well into the future.

As the latest addition, PCM joins a rather exclusive club of around 50 such Porsche Classic Partners around the world. In all, this represents a strong commitment by Porsche Germany to both the fleet of Classic Porsches on our roads in Australia and to their passionate owners.

http://www.porsche.com/australia/accessoriesandservice/classic/classic-partner/

found this article and images online and thought I would share it interesting read and some great images .........

1973 Porsche 911 Turbo Prototype

In the seventies Porsche was serious about turbo charging and this prototype signalled the way for later cars like the 930 and the RSR 3.0. It was also the one of the very first show cars fitted with the wide body, large alloy wheels, whale tail and a turbocharged version of the flat-6 engine. All these details eventually appeared on the 911 RSR 3.0-litre race cars of 1974.

At the time, Porsche was no stranger to forced induction. Their 917/10 and 917/30 race cars achieved incredible amounts of horsepower, reaching 1100 bhp and beyond, with exhaust-driven turbochargers. By January of 1973 they had experimented with a turbocharged version of the 2.7-litre engine to signal their upcoming intentions, Chief Engineer Helmuth Bott created the new Turbo at Style Porsche.

The show car was built from a standard 911S (VIN 9113300157) fixed with a radical wide body kit that mimicked the upcoming RSR 3.0-litre race car. This was purely functional since the flares wrapped around much larger 11 inch Fuchs alloy wheels and other details like the front apron included an opening for the oil cooler. At the rear was Porsche’s first whale tail that improved cooling and aerodynamics. It also was fitted with a very rare badge on the engine cover from Style Porsche. To promote the upcoming turbo era, large graphics spelled out the cars intended purpose. The interior also had a unique Green/Black tartan trim and one-off paddle head-rest sports seats.

Ironically, when the car debuted as the new Turbo at the 1973 Paris Motor Show, it didn’t even have a functioning turbocharged engine. Instead, the top half of the engine was a wooden mock-up, used to show case the turbo engine. The car was subsequently displayed at the 1974 Geneva, Frankfurt, Tokyo and Melbourne motor shows.

During the world tour Porsche took orders for the full-blown RSR 3.0 race car, but they didn’t scrap their prototype. Instead, it was later fitted with a real RSR 3.0-litre engine and sold to Alan Hamilton, the Australian Porsche importer in 1975. He raced the car at Oran Park and Hume Weir in 75 before retiring it from competition .Alan had kept it in largely original condition. During that period but wanted to upgrade to the the fearsome 934 ,so like most of last year’s race cars the RSR went onto Hamilton’s used car lot to be sold .

Subsequently the car changed hands several times while residing in Australia and was at one stage converted to right hand drive and reconfigured as a road car and club racer for the Victorian Porsche club president Graham Stockley..

By 2010, the prototype changed hands again and this time had reached the United States for owner Murray Smith of Washington, Connecticut. It was subsequently displayed at the 2010 Greenwich Concourse d’Elegance. As show in some of these images

<img class="ipsImage" alt="930proto1973_copyright_porsche.jpg"
Looking for some help if possible !

I run a Facebook page called Australian Rally History ( feel free to join and check it out ) and spent alot of time tracking down surviving rally cars from the pre 1990 era . One I am looking for which I understand is still around is the 924 car 8 in the Repco Trial in 1979 .

It was driven by Jurgen Barth and Roland Kushmaul both from Germany , and placed 9th outright in a great efort from one of the 2 person crews in this very grueling event !

I have very little information , I was told it went to Graham Stockley after the event . Otherwise I have only found pics of it competing in Targa NZ 2006 with a couple by the name of Terry Rowbottom and Diane Rowbottom I think from South Australia .

After that I have nothing other than the rego still comes up as being current as it is still on the original 79 plates .

Anyone know of where it may be ?

I Know its a long shot, but what the heck. Allan Hamilton raced an open wheel race car on the Hill Climb circuit in the early to mid 80s. I dont know what type of car it was. I do know that it had a Porsche engine and dont think it was a flat six. Any of you experts know anything about this car? Esp the type of engine it had? Cant find the photo of it I had from the old Morwell Hill Climb to help. Anyone?

Righto, not holding my breath........

I am looking for a factory head unit for the 930 (Australian delivered 1976 model, Built 10/75). I don't expect to find one in PFA.

What I am looking for is any info on what head units where issued in 3Lt 930s in Australia? Images, stories, maybe you know somebody that owns an early 930 that could help me with my question?

The options on head units change around the world. As far as I know they changed for some countries, some where changed as dealers/owners ordered them?

It should of had a Blaupunkt Bamberg to my knowledge? Though this could be wrong? Within Bamberg there where different models? Many 3.0Lt cars had the recording option with a microphone in the centre console. But before I fork out a couple of grand for one I would like to be sure.

To add to the conundrum the head units in other countries had slightly different band widths. So the last number on the FM band is 104 on most of them, here in Australia the last number would have been 108. I will weigh this up if I can even find one.....

I have all the information that Porsche Australia knows about my car. I also have a COA and the stereo option was not denoted on any document I can get my hands on.

In 1975 they sent 6 cars here, 1976 saw 14 cars and in 1977 they delivered 21 cars. So There are not many here to help answer my questions?

Anybody????????????????????????????
