Have seen a couple of threads that had some discussion on the subject of fuel choice but none squarely dealing with it and mainly to do with air cooled cars.

So, what brand of 98 fuel do you use for your water cooled car and why?

I have to date used Shell V-Power because there is a station close to me and because my cars have always run fine on it, but the posts I refer to above suggest BP Ultimate might be best.

	Hi all,

I have a 2005 997S with factory PSE. Does anyone on this list have one and how does it work??

When I start the car it defaults to "off" (but the light is on). When I turn it on the light goes off? Which by the way I have read is normal, but seems odd? Also it seams to switch on and off depending on how fast I'm going and how hard I accelerate? For example, if I accelerate easy, it just stays on, but if I go a little harder (but not too much) it switches off until I back off a little? And this only happens up to about 80kph. After that it stays on no matter how hard I drive. Is this right???

I have read that the Euro cars of the same model switch off the PSE between 50-80kph?

Can anyone give me some information on this model?

BTW, it's just the greatest sound ever! Should be standard on all S models...

	thanks, Tim

I'm thinking about extending the warranty on my manual 2012 991.1S NA. 25kkms on the clock. So far i've had the rear lid gas strut replaced under warranty. They have tried to address rattles and squeaks in the doors under warranty with no success. Rattles are more apparent when listening to talk back radio.

PCSS have quoted $2090 for 1-year and $3190 for 2-year extended warranty.

Are any members aware of any known problems or weak points? Has there been any experience with significant warranty claims with the 991NA.

Look forward to hearing your thoughts.

	Hi Guys,

On the 996, I've adjusted my parking brake so that in 3-4 clicks it'll lock the wheels. Followed all the manual instructions on doing it. However now i'm finding it really heavy/ a lot of effort to get to the 3-4 clicks. So much so the wife doesn't have the strength to wrench it up to the 4th click.

Is this normal on a 996 or do you think i need new brake shoes? or have i done something wrong with the adjustment.

Our 987 has the CDR24 unit, but has standard speakers etc, i.e., doesn't have the Bose update. I understand the Bose audio uses fibre connectivity, but how about the standard unit?

Reason for asking is that I'm looking at Bluetooth options for handsfree phone. I've just purchased the Rennkit option for my 996 http://rennkit.com/product-info/bluetooth-retrofit-kit/ which works with non fibre installations. If the 987 is also non fibre I'll try it in that first. We would lose the 6 stacker CD unit connection, but we rarely use that anyway, and the 996 doesnt' have this option anyway.

Otherwise, I'll investigate the Continental units (eg http://www.soundlabsgroup.com.au/p/Continental-Car-Radio-CD7416UBOR/Continental+CD+Car+Radio+CD7416-UB+OR) as I don't want to go double DIN, and don't want to spend a fortune.

	Any thoughts?

Will be letting my car sit undriven for six weeks. Have done a bit of googling to check what I need to do to prepare, and have charged battery, will wash, increase tyre pressure, fill fuel tank.

The sites I have seen recommend not leaving the handbrake on for long periods of time, but it is not clear to me how long that is.

My question is, for six weeks am I safe to keep the handbrake on or should I buy some wheel chocks. Car will be parked in a private but shared garage, so I'd rather not have obvious indications that the car is not being used.

This may sound like a weird topic for those of you who are seasoned P drivers. But having had my turbo now for around 4 months and it being my first P I am still learning how to drive it " well ".

I drove a PDK 2016 991 Carerra yesterday with a mate. Obviously it's PDK and so it's going to be very different but it feels like my 996tt gear change from 1st to 2nd is incredibly short and I'm just wondering whether I'm not keeping my foot down long enough in 1st and allowing the revs to hit 4 or 5k or I should keep doing what I am and get out of 1st as fast as possible into 2nd.

The overriding objective being as fast out of the blocks as possible. For the sake of the discussion assume I'm trying to get from 0-100.

Now I know not all 996 turbo's are equal and many have been modified. Mine is stock standard - no mods.

Keen to get some feedback notwithstanding I'm sure a driving course at some stage would help !

	Hey Guys,

Need to get some advice from my fellow 996 - 997 owners. My lovely 1998 996 Carrera 2 is starting... well its not starting once the engine gets hot and i've let it sit for about 2-5 minutes. The starter doesn't tick.. after a few minutes it does a single crank and a few minutes later it starts up really slowly. Battery is fine and showing good charge even when cranking.

Just wondering, has anyone had their one recondition (if so where?)or is it better to directly replace them (bosch, dansk brand) also is their any solutions for the heat soaked starter?

Does anyone have one that they would like to sell ?

	Cheers,

Hi guys, first of many posts hopefully.

Was hoping to see if anyone has come across a technical issue I'm have with a Mobridge install on my 997.1.

Took the car to an installer highly recommended by one of the Porsche dealers to have a Mobridge M2 connect bluetooth installed.

I've come across an issue where every time I turn on the car and turn the PCM to the Mobridge it makes a high pitched sound for about 2 - 5 mins (audio file attached) before it then magically switches to what I'm streaming from my phone (either music or a phone call). I can't work out what it is. The installer has tried to fix it (even replaced the Mobridge unit) but same thing happens. Installer reckons its an issue with my PCM but the PCM does not do that with anything else, just with the Mobridge.

Installer says he can't fix it. Was wondering if anyone here has come across the same issue?

Appreciate any help or suggestions.

Thanks

	Tyrekickers opinions sought

What current $$ amount do you think is the difference between the price of Aust delivered : a 997.1 S and a 997.1 4S? (With both cars being equal in options ks condition history, same for same etc etc)

And is the only differences in the 4S to the S : not as many delivered, a wider rear track, wider guards, (by a mere 15mm either side at the rear, front the same?), AWD, Turbo brakes, Turbo suspension, rear badge, heavier? Anything else?

Is the wider body really noticeable?

Also does anyone have data on the number of 996 4S Aust delivered and number of 997.1 4S Aust delivered

	Hi All,

I'm in the market for a 996 turbo and am lusting after one in white. Do any of you wise souls know how many, if any, were delivered to Australia? I'm ok with Cab or Coupe.

	Thanks!

Hi all, it appears my diff has worn out. I believe due to the wrong wheels & tyres fitted between front & rear causing a 19mm tyre diameter difference. They were on the car when I bought it at 45,000 kms early this year but don't know how long on car. Is there anyone in AUS known for rebuilding Porsche Tiptronic Gearboxes & Torque Converters & Diffs? Is the diff the same as used in the manual transmission? The tiptronic in the 996 Turbo is built by MB for Porsche I believe. Maybe might be cheaper buying a complete secondhand gearbox from overseas. Problem is no warranty & don't always believe auto dismantlers claim on very low kms. Sitting on a shelf for years with low kms (claimed) probably would not be good especially for seals etc. Have spent a lot of time online with few results especially regarding overhauls. Any info would be great.

	Hi All,

Long story short, I bought a 997.2 front bumper to update (facelift) the look of my 997.1.

The new (fully plastic) bumper needs some repairs - some gluing/welding and some resurfacing as it is a bit "wavy" in some parts.

Would anyone recommend a good place in the Melbourne area for such a job? Basically a bumper repair place, someone who would specialise in plastic repair and welding...

	Thanks for your heads up!
