Looking for expressions of interest for our next PFA social days...

We made a couple of bookings late last year for 2019 Haunted Hills dates for our Social Hillclimb events, the first of which is on the Sunday 10th March, on the weekend of the Phillip Island Historic Racing weekend. If you haven't been, it is a MUST for the avid classic car nut!

Our cunning plan is to travel down for the day at Phillip Island on Saturday 9th March, experience the awesome spectacle of old school racing machinery, and then drive on to Moe Comfort Inn motel, with a dinner at our regular RSL, before enjoying a social day of fossil fuel burning at Haunted Hills hillclimb track on the 10th March.

I am aware that this is the same date as the recently announced CPA Sandown trackday, which may very well suit some people better, but I thought to ask for expressions of interest anyway.

Hi All,

Back in April we ran a trial event out at Bryant Park (Haunted Hills) for a social hill climb event. If you haven't had an opportunity to visit it is well worth the drive, it offers a driving experience unlike any other local track offers. Tight, low (ish) speed and definitely favours more of a technical approach - not a flat out high speed affair at all.............perfect playground for little Porscha's!

So after a wait and some more planning we are looking make this an official PFA event and welcome any members who want to join us. Its a great opportunity to explore your cars ability in a an environment that offers; single car on track at a time, low speed, short duration (low impact on car and driver) and there will also be an opportunity for instruction if that is of interest. 

So the details are;

John has had many enquiries about people wanting to get a copy of the #HANGARBANGER poster.

I'm happy to supply, but I need to get an idea of how many people are actually interested so as to work out economies of scale for the best quality and price.

I'm thinking that they'll be either A2 (420x600mm) or A1(594x841mm) in size.

Our fellow member John Orchard (Polorot) has generously created an event down in Geelong for us in his soon to be demolished Trans Otway Hangar.

Essentially, John wants to offer an opportunity for us all to get together throughout the day and night of the 20th January for a very social and chilled time, with a public display component in the afternoon. Hence we have 2 timeframes - Punters in their Pcars: 11am - LATE; and the General Public Display - 1 - 6pm.

The hangar will hold up to around 80 cars internally, and should we need it we have John's carpark immediately next door for another 60 cars. (1st in, will be 1st hangered!)

We will have various food and beverage options available on the day (food trucks/coffee truck etc), with exact details as they come to hand here on this thread.

We are happy to announce October 29th as our second family trackday, again at Sandown Raceway -

PFA_TRACKDAY.02

Much of the positive feedback centered around the relaxed and informal vibe that the day had, focused on track craft instruction for beginners and mentoring for the more experienced on the challenging Sandown track. 

We are looking to continue this spirit with PFA scrutineering to begin each session and instruction provided again by Kevin and his experienced Driver Dynamics instructors. We'll also be releasing a date shortly for our pre-event info night to help you get your car prepared, and where new drivers can also chat with those who did it last time and feel totally comfortable going forward on the track.

Further feedback from members and Kevin's crew told us that by the afternoon session, most drivers had tapped their concentration and energy reserves, and as such this TRACKDAY will offer instead 2 (!!) sessions (morning and afternoon) at a reduced rate of $300 per session. Those of you who are gluttons for punishment can elect to do both sessions, at a discounted rate of $500. If you elect to buy 1 session, (morning or afternoon), the other session will automatically be $100 cheaper in the shop. Whichever session you select, there will be loads of other activities to enjoy when not on the track - so if a sparrow fart start suits you best, book for the first morning session, but if you want to bring the family along, come and enjoy the morning at your own pace, then join the second round of scrutineering and drivers' briefing for a great afternoon of track time - with or without some expert technical advisers in your car. We hope this format gives families and those PFA members outside of Melbourne more of a chance to enjoy the day too. But whichever option you select, plan to stay for the entire day. (And if the family is looking for some hints for the perfect Father's Day present...this is definitely it!)

Same as for the last PFA Track Day, this event is for Financial Members only, and each FM will be allowed to purchase one of each session. If you know someone who wants to come along, get them to join up and become a FM.

Lunch is included in the price of the ticket for drivers, and there will be a variety of food & drink available for purchase on the day as well.

Lots more to be revealed in the coming months, and one thing is for sure... This is one event you won't want to miss out on! 

If you're IN, go to THIS link and secure your place in either the morning or afternoon session. After the success last time,  we're hoping to have a dedicated Sabine's Squad session. So, ask 'she who must be invited' whether she'd like to get some real expert driving tips from one of Kevin's lads...Go girls!

Sorry no "R", but defs a coffee or beer on me when we meet!

But if I can, I'd just like to take this opportunity to point out a significant, if not the quintessential, difference between the PFA, and the big boy pcar forums out there... (Rennelist/Pelican/Planet9 etc).

They have hundreds and hundreds of thousands, if not millions of members.

We have 3k.

They have amazing technical resources, and plenty of lippy attitude.

We have access to amazing technical resources (our's and their's), and we have a really well mannered, respectful, place to meet, share and converse.

As I said to someone earlier today, its just as likely that if you start chatting to a fellow pcar driver down the street picking up the fish and chips, that there's a reasonable chance that you'll end up knowing them by their PFA handle! Its happened to me quite a few times, which means that you're never quite as anonymous as you think you are, and somehow I think this small member pool keeps it all just a bit more civil, and real.

Now this isn't me just trying to find a silver lining, or make a RWB out of a Camry. This is, I think, what makes the PFA the kind of place that it is - a tight, local community of commonly afflicted pcar nuts.

So to the old quality vs quantity debate... congrats to us all!

Its a bit difficult to judge from only these two extreme examples of silver and black, however we sent out some samples with the t-shirts today so I'm looking forward to some opinions from those who will have seen them in the flesh, and maybe even some snaps of them on their cars...  

I am wondering how I would go about getting myself a PFA T shirt, I can see them on merchandise but you can not seem order them. I am hopping to try & get one before Rennsport, or at least a few stickers. Caver told me you could even get a shirt with your PFA name on it. So how do I buy one in XL.   

I spoke to the decal supplier this morning and they confessed they hadn't started my job yet as they have been waiting on the specific silver that I requested - thanks for telling me!

The logo and racing stripe decals WILL be delivered to me on friday, and I will endeavour to get them all out over the weekend.

I will be sending PM to those early subscribers whose delivery addresses I didn't get ( about 10 of you I think) to secure those addresses.

Hopefully delivered to you all Monday or Tuesday next week...

Chris-p / Chris993 / (or just) Chris is standing down from PFA moderating duties, effective today.

Its a sad day for me as I reflect on his moderatorship, and on how much I sought and valued his considered opinion and wise counsel. Indeed, his "cool your heels" advice to some others of us mods (  ) before we might have sent possibly incendiary declarations of staunch moderation (  ), has been peace keeping to say the least!

I would also go as far as suggesting the gentlemanly, respectful, and accessible nature of this forum is directly due to Chris' own life values, and influence. For me, this has been his greatest contribution to that which we all enjoy and ourselves value today.

As some of us already know, Chris was a founding member of the PFA and one of the original three mods since way back when the moderator:member ratio was significantly higher (about 1:5) - cos' man we were so bad-ass back then!   Actually, back then it was mostly Chris and Doug and I sitting around, watching our screens waiting for a "post",  let alone arbitrating over a boobs on bonnets enthusiast arguing his creative merit and right to expression!

I wish Chris our collective thanks for his time and committed effort to the running of the PFA, and I rest assured that he will soon be able to fill this gaping hole in his life with the company of his loving wife Ann; exploring more of the world with her, and oh yeah, his new, superlative, black steed - which coincidently arrived off the docks yesterday, (and is probably dirty by now!!! LOL! )

Since seeing the "R GRUPPE Treffen" video on Vimeo, it has shouted to me that we should do something similar.

A series of video clips and interviews with our members and their cars, doing that which comes naturally... whether under them, driving them, or just rabbiting on about them - our passion for our cars and the lifestyle that they afford us surely needs to find a public voice that can all share.

I've been waiting for the phone to ring from the groovy production house offering to take over this whole time consuming process for me, however it just hasn't happened! Consequently I'm thinking that we should source/create our own material over a longish period (2015) - allowing for budding filmmakers to plan and execute some footage for themselves - and then early in 2016 I'll/we'll set about collating and editing the material into our own short film.

At this point I'm looking to get a sense of whether anyone, or hopefully, how many members might want to be involved? (Simon/Bruce/Nathan/Greg etc?)

We have members with GoPros and drones, we have budding Jeremy Clarkson types, we have promising automotive photographers/videographers... surely between us we could all contribute and create something worthy?!

So, hands up!

Who has thus far unused skills and talents (by the PFA) that might be interested in participating in the organising and/or shooting of some footage to share via a common PFA video?!

I know it might be going against every shred of PFA DNA, but this also might warrant some sort of .... errrr.... production committee to strategise and coordinate?!
