	If anyone who does their own Centrelocks needs Optimol, this link will save you a fair bit, I just ordered two 100 gram tins and inc postage from the UK, it was $44.12 compared to $64.00 for one 100 gram tube from Porsche.

<p>
	Hi everyone
</p>

<p>
	Just throught I would introduce my self, my name's Matt and I just got my first Porsche. Always been a dream car of mine since I was about 8.
</p>

<p>
	I just sold a beloved kombi I had been fixing up for a number of years but couldn't pass up the opportunity to get a 911.
</p>

<p>
	I have ended up buying a 76 911 sportomatic. It needs a bit of work to get driving but not to much. It has come with a huge book full of receipts but it does need a lot of TLC as some things have been left for to long.
</p>

<p>
	Any way here are some photos. Got underneath it last night and got the drive shaft out to fix the broken cv boot. It's so damn messy and oilly under there but the clean should happen this weekend if I'm lucky.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Plans are to get it all nice and cleaned up  mechanically so I can drive it around for a bit and then get into the body work.
</p>

<p>
	Thinking of changing it to a manual at the moment, I do like the sporto but just would love a manual. I know there are a few people hear who love the sporto and will kill me a little for changing it but I will keep everything I pull out and keep it all to then one day if I ever change back it will all be there.
</p>

<p>
	So if anyone has a rhd pedal set or nice flywheel they are looking to get rid of please send me a message.
</p>

<p>
	Thanks for looking
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Cheers Matt
</p>

<p>

	thank you all for the warm welcome, after posting a couple of links in my intro i thought it best to carry on with a thread of my comedy of errors!. i say this as i usually end up making a couple of panels before i'm happy with them.

<p>
	What have I gotten myself into?! <br />
	I picked up my 1983 911 Cabriolet yesterday.
</p>

<p>
	Originally imported from Japan back in 2005 I believe. It was then sold on to the owners who I purchased it from. <br />
	The lovely gentleman that I purchased it from had it for about 10 years and over that time spent quite a lot of time and money on it.  Mostly focused on converting it from LHD to RHD. Unfortunately he became sick and had to move the car on for someone else to be able to finish his hard work.
</p>

<p>
	In order to do the RHD Conversion, he got in contact with a VicRoads approved engineer who had experience with Porsche steering conversions. The engineer advised him what was required to meet the required approvals. So, most of the work has been completed. The steering has been swapped across, the dash has mostly been completed, as have the pedals amongst other things. The engineer's certificate still hasn't been ticked off... so, once I get it running, I'll have to do the final few jobs to meet the engineer requirements.
</p>

<p>
	The interior has pretty much been stripped out with all the door cards and rear inner panels needing replacing.  The carpet has been replaced - I think with a homemade set... it will do for now.
</p>

<p>
	I've heard the car running for about 10 seconds... enough to hear that that there wasn't any obvious knocking or scary sounds... here's hoping that when I eventually get it started, it stays that way. <br /><br />
	Once we got it home yesterday, we gave it a good vacuum and wiped down all of the interior as it was really, really dusty.  I felt much better once it was all cleaned out.
</p>

<p>
	The car was originally white, but sprayed Red in Japan.  I was told that the car had only completed 83,000km's in it's life (as per the speedo reading) but there's no matching documents to prove this is correct., Also I find it strange that someone would respray a car before it had done even 100,000kms. I personally dont think the speedo reading is correct - but who knows.
</p>

<p>

	I actually love that this car comes from Japan. I visit Japan as much as I can, so for me, it's an awesome bit of history. I'd love to find out more about it's Japanese owners and where in Japan it lived before coming to Australia.

	Brand new seats installed by previous owner.  I don't love the colour - but they seem like very nice seats.  Shame they aren't just plain black. The owner wanted to go for a 90's red theme inside it seems.

	This is the nightmare I have in front of me.  I know nothing about car electrics. I can do engines and bodywork... but electrics I have no experience with. I'm wondering if it would be easier to start again with a brand new wiring loom.  I guess this is what happens when someone does a DIY steering conversion.

	One of the dashboard bits that isn't working.  The Handbrake light works ok, but the seatbelt light does not... possibly not hooked up correctly... or maybe a blown bulb.  Any easy way to test the bulb with a multimeter?

	Unfortunately the only place I have found rust so far in the car is inside this filler next to the petrol filler. Is this the wiper fluid filler? <br />
	It was pretty rusty inside... I sanded it back as best i could, vacuumed out what I sanded to stop it dropping down the tube... put some rust converter on it for about 20 mins and sealed it with some penetrol for the time being... hopefully that slows down the rust.

<p>

</p>

<p>
	I turned the ignition onto ACCESSORY and got a really loud buzzing from the engine bay... I couldn't quite pick where... is that normal??
</p>

<p>
	Anyway... I'm going to have to think about how i'm going to proceed with all the wiring that is EVERYWHERE. No matter what I do, I'm going to have to get very good at reading wiring diagrams - or find a pile of cash to pay an auto elec to sort it out for me.

<p>
	A little history first.  I bought my 911 SC 11 years ago as an imported from USA conversion. The AC was left out after the swap which loses plenty of mass but also loses ventilation into the cabin. Along with fixed quarter windows there's really bugger all airflow. After too many hot days with only the wheezy foot vents for fresh air I finally got around to reconnecting the centre dash vents.
</p>

<p>
	Apart from contorting yourself to feed the 60mm hose to the upper vent it is such a simple fix.  Remove the hose that runs from the blower to the passenger side diverter. <span style="background-color:#ffffff;font-size:16px;"> I initially fitted a y piece to split the air between feet and dash but it resulted in almost no flow to the dash. I fitted the hose directly </span>to the centre vent and the video proves the result<span class="ipsEmoji">😁</span>

	I wonder what seat options will fit easily, be ergonomically ok without knees up near ears or hinder elbow across to gearshift, or what may fit with rail mods etc?

<p>
	It would be interesting to know what other Porsche cars have had successfully fitted alternate seats fitted too (and pics if possible ?)

<p>
	So, on the weekend I was checking clearances with my bearings using plastigauge.
</p>

<p>
	I had read online that to remove the plastigauge you could use degreaser or brake cleaner.
</p>

<p>
	I found that brake cleaner worked really well, but I also noticed that it changed the colour of the bearing.
</p>

<p>
	At that point I realised I probably shouldn't have used brake cleaner on the bearings.
</p>

<p>
	Is it possible that I've stuffed the bearings? Should I shell out for another set?  They actually still look fine - but I'm just being paranoid!

<p>
	Hi All,
</p>

<p>
	I have been meaning to document the process of this build for 8 months now after purchasing a 1976 914 2.0 fuel injected car as a base. This is my 3rd 914, I keep gravitating back to them!!
</p>

<p>
	This car was imported into WA in the early 1980s and was converted to RHD and remained with the one owner since then. It had a massive file with even the sales documentation when first purchased in the US, and a massive box of spares that I shoehorned into the front boot!
</p>

<p>
	I bought this car sight unseen on the Trading Post (of all places), flew to Armidale NNSW and drove the car home to Melbourne. It was quite the trip, made all the more special when Apple Maps took me across 3x causeways that were underwater, with one of them requiring a fair bow wave to get through and the feeling of losing traction with the ground on that particular crossing.... After a quick change of underwear, the journey continued and it didn't miss a beat <span><img alt=":)" data-emoticon="" height="20" src="//content.invisioncic.com/o114742/emoticons/default_smile.png" srcset="//content.invisioncic.com/o114742/emoticons/smile@2x.png 2x" title=":)" width="20" /></span>
</p>

<p>
	I drove it for approximately a year whilst I planned the build and commenced the purchasing of the required parts, with most unfortunately coming from the U.S. and incurring horrendous freight and currency conversion costs
</p>

<p>
	This is the starting photo tucked up in the garage at home
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="G5AhBsY.jpg" src="https://i.imgur.com/G5AhBsY.jpg" /></p>

<p>
	And this the absolute inspiration <span><img alt=":)" data-emoticon="" height="20" src="//content.invisioncic.com/o114742/emoticons/default_smile.png" srcset="//content.invisioncic.com/o114742/emoticons/smile@2x.png 2x" title=":)" width="20" /> !!</span>
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="xk8Bofb.jpg" src="https://i.imgur.com/xk8Bofb.jpg" /></p>

<p>
	The first step was the tear down...
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="KMLPIkt.jpg" src="https://i.imgur.com/KMLPIkt.jpg" /></p>

<p>
	I then rolled her out into the lane way and stripped the paint off, not worrying about the guards as these are to be removed in favour of the steel GT flares!
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="sukBIPZ.jpg" src="https://i.imgur.com/sukBIPZ.jpg" /></p>

<p>
	One of my first purchases from the U.S. was a set of the required 15x 7" and 8" fuchs. This was them when they landed-
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="we85Ehb.jpg" src="https://i.imgur.com/we85Ehb.jpg" /></p>

<p>
	I then set about the process of restoration of the rims, a fairly involved process but very worthwhile- you can't beat a set of anodised Fuchs on an early P-car <span><img alt=":)" data-emoticon="" height="20" src="//content.invisioncic.com/o114742/emoticons/default_smile.png" srcset="//content.invisioncic.com/o114742/emoticons/smile@2x.png 2x" title=":)" width="20" /></span>
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="Efkc6rh.jpg" src="https://i.imgur.com/Efkc6rh.jpg" /></p>

<p>
	The next step was to change from the VW 4 stud hubs to the Porsche 5 stud hubs as per the 914/6 build, so off she went-
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="cnyo89E.jpg?1" src="https://i.imgur.com/cnyo89E.jpg?1" /></p>

<p>
	...and voila (albeit that the rears were rubbing in the narrow body guise)!
</p>

<p>

<p>
	So off to the next stage- the steel flares from Auto Atlanta, a necessity for the true GT build
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="p1HAEpE.jpg" src="https://i.imgur.com/p1HAEpE.jpg" /></p>

<p>
	<img alt="i7wR2Wn.jpg" src="https://i.imgur.com/i7wR2Wn.jpg" /></p>

<p>
	The motor has now recently been dropped in preparation for the 6 cylinder P motor (still to be finalised)-
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="5jTRkvd.jpg" src="https://i.imgur.com/5jTRkvd.jpg" /></p>

<p>
	The later model 914s had the horrendous and terribly heavy impact bumpers which needed to be removed and backdated to the earlier steel variety for the build. I located these locally (and the bumper tops) and had the bumpers chrome stripped and copper plated ready for when they will be painted black
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="6wCTTxH.jpg" src="https://i.imgur.com/6wCTTxH.jpg" /></p>

<p>
	<img alt="L5GVaE4.jpg" src="https://i.imgur.com/L5GVaE4.jpg" /></p>

<p>
	Then the cutting of the front for the oil cooler set up from Patrick's Motorsports- I gritted my teeth when taking to it with the grinder.
</p>

<p>
	The first cut was in the spare wheel section, slowly, slowly...-
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="jBVERK1.jpg?1" src="https://i.imgur.com/jBVERK1.jpg?1" /></p>

<p>
	And then the front section...
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="nkmRFMP.jpg" src="https://i.imgur.com/nkmRFMP.jpg" /></p>

<p>
	Next job is the through bonnet fuel filler, more cutting....
</p>

<p>
	Cheers
</p>

<p>
	Craig

<p>I did my first few track days this year and thoroughly enjoyed them. It was immediately apparent though that the centre console had to go! I'm 186cm and the position of my left knee meant that I had to keep shuffling my hands around the wheel when turning left (a distraction i did not need).</p><p> </p><p>Bought the console delete kit, trim piece and also the ashtray delete/ non-smokers shelf. The latter is to claw back some (barely) usable storage space.</p><p> </p><p>Having just done a track day post mod, I am very happy with the result- can keep hands on the wheel, I think it looks pretty good as well.</p><p> </p><p>Ash tray delete <a rel="external nofollow" href="https://www.suncoastparts.com/product/9X6NSS.html">https://www.suncoastparts.com/product/9X6NSS.html</a> </p><p>Centre console delete and trim piece <a rel="external nofollow" href="https://www.suncoastparts.com/product/gt3console.html">https://www.suncoastparts.com/product/gt3console.html</a> </p><p> </p><p>Dark interior doesn't make for great photos, but hopefully you get the idea. </p><p><a rel="external nofollow" href="http://s350.photobucket.com/user/rhkremer1/media/213_zpsnnrgddsd.jpg.html"><img class="ipsImage" alt="213_zpsnnrgddsd.jpg" src="http://i350.photobucket.com/albums/q416/rhkremer1/213_zpsnnrgddsd.jpg"></a> </p><p><a rel="external nofollow" href="http://s350.photobucket.com/user/rhkremer1/media/220_zpsb44bca1e.jpg.html"><img class="ipsImage" alt="220_zpsb44bca1e.jpg" src="http://i350.photobucket.com/albums/q416/rhkremer1/220_zpsb44bca1e.jpg"></a><br><a rel="external nofollow" href="http://s350.photobucket.com/user/rhkremer1/media/218_zpsx3bzts9y.jpg.html"><img class="ipsImage" alt="218_zpsx3bzts9y.jpg" src="http://i350.photobucket.com/albums/q416/rhkremer1/218_zpsx3bzts9y.jpg"></a> </p>

<p>My Cayenne's headlights started flickering and after changing bulbs, still flickering.</p><p>The mechanic narrowed it down to the Xenon ballast and was quoted, by <span style="line-height:22.4px;">Chellingworth Porsche, </span>$1,500 plus shipping from over east.</p><p>Its actually a Hella part (the part I pulled out actually had Hella's part number on it then Porsche's own part number below) and I got them for  $184 plus express shipping from Germany. I even bet it gets here faster than shipping from over east.</p><p> </p><p> </p>

<p>
	I’ve been working on my 944 turbo for awhile
</p>

<p>
	it’s currently having a major major service belts pumps, rebuilt head ,  the whole enchilada and while there decided to rebuild the torque tube
</p>

<p>
	bought the Black Sea Super Bearings x 4
</p>

<p>
	Great bit  of kit. Seriously over engineered but they work and Constantine who makes and supplies these is a great guy with near instant email or phone call assistance - note hes in the states
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	read and read all the threads . Lots of hair pulling and teeth gnashing going on in them.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	So I decided to use a pergola and a winch and a few other bits n bobs to make a press of sorts. KY was also invaluable
</p>

<p>
	Once sorted was easy and painless
</p>

<p>
	Better IMO than using the threaded rod method
</p>

<p>
	TT is all together now with 4 new super bearings . In the morning I’ll put in the drive shaft
</p>

<p>
	<span style="background-color:#ffffff;font-size:16px;">And then go back to Sydney and help the mechanic reinstall it along with the renewed rear end </span>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	I’ll post a few pics
</p>

<p>About time I start a resto thread for this car</p><p>Owned it for over two years now and just sat waiting patiently at the panel shop for well over a year till it had its turn</p><p>Now the panel work is done, progress will be faster. Fingers crossed</p><p>The car is a 1970 T. Delivered in California and converted in Sydney in the mid '70s. Have a bunch of history documents with it</p><p>The original Sydney owner pulled the car apart for a quick resto but the usual story, got distracted and sold it on to the previous owner who I bought it from in 2014</p><p>At some stage in the '80s, the car had a colour change to red amongst other typical '80s updates like a graphic equalizer (!!), sport steering wheel and cookie cutters. All of which I will be reversing soon</p><p>Here are a couple of pictures when I bought it</p><p><img class="ipsImage" alt="IMG_1843.jpg" src="https://s14.postimg.org/mgoljsjv5/IMG_1843.jpg"></p><p><img class="ipsImage" alt="IMG_1844.jpg" src="https://s22.postimg.org/4un7sedzl/IMG_1844.jpg"></p><p><img class="ipsImage" alt="IMG_5127.jpg" src="https://s15.postimg.org/dhx23jm97/IMG_5127.jpg"></p>

<p>
	Hi
</p>

<p>
	i notice I have some chips underneath of the car where the schutz has been removed( knocks , chips rust etc) leaving the metal work exposed and the surface rusted. What is the best way to fix and blend these areas with new schutz? The areas around these spots is super tuff and won’t remove easily
</p>

<p>
	guessing wire wheel
</p>

<p>
	grease remover
</p>

<p>
	Por 15 or KBS
</p>

<p>
	then schutz - Wurth and “blow” in with compressed air( read this somewhere that gives factory look?)
</p>

<p>
	then paint
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Thanks for your help
</p>

<p>

	I am thinking about painting the inners of my 3 piece rims to get this effect. (this isn't my car, but its very close)
</p>

<p>
	What are the recommendations of those who have pulled their rims to pieces and successfully reassembled them??

<p>
	Some of you may know I’m in the midst of a full rebuild of my 74 911 /87 930 hotrod. Full rotisserie... everything rebuilt and refinished. Darren at auto coupe is mid way through my 930 motor and box complete rebuild... so we are going bigger barrels - 3.4l , bigger turbo, 964 cam, and some other tweets.... keeping the MFI. Box is LSD,  The torsion bar is 31mm, everything is factory 87 930... everything. Will be making a set of 3 peice Fuchs and the rear will hopefully be 11x15 running a 295-315 tyre ( I want all the rubber in the world under those hips hahah )
</p>

<p>
	Car will be lighter and with a lot more HP and as I’m replacing pretty much everything I may as well think about suspension to keep power to the ground and me out I’d ditch lol. Anyone used Werks ASP adjustable spring plates?
</p>

<p>
	Any ideas of a good rear set up ?? I’d like to hear all ideas. I do want to try keep the idiosyncrasies of the old girl. So nothing too modern or over the top.
</p>
