Well it was on today and surprised that it has so far rated no mention?

Lovely day, nice location, if a bit spread out, but a nice walk.

Some interesting cars.

Strange that you see nearly as many nice cars in the carpark than in the concours and then you see a different group of cars at say, the Autohaus palm beach events?

Not criticising just an observation?

Yesterday , Eastern Creek ( Sydney Motorsport Park ) GP Circuit , fine weather & 27 degrees cel , nice conditions & great circuit , big turn out of competitors ( booked and then some ) 87 cars competing in the first PCNSW Supersprint for 2017

There were a few spin -off's during the day ( particularly ) ofter the oil spill event , but luckily there were no cars hitting anything hard , like concrete barriers , I think because everyone just backed off after the oil spill event , during the morning track sessions one of the competitors cars sprung a oil leak( large wide spread oil spray ) & it was not the normal oil on track incident that might effect say 1/3 of the entire track , this oil release was a wide even spray that covered the entire racing line for the entire length off the circuit , the track was closed while there was the normal dust/cover the entire length of the circuit oil spray with cement powder

The next session out onto the track was a dusty sliding event & the track got a bit better as the day went by but never recovered to a normal dry track condition , so basically we had a strange end of day track times where the competitors ( in the main ) had their best ( quickest ) times in the first two morning sessions ( if they got a clear lap )& the rest of the day was making the best of what was out there

The Front engine'd Porsche guy's did quite well under the circumstances , below are some results from the "R" spec Tyre'd competing cars , meaning the cars competing on road legal tyres as compared to racing slicks which is a different thing all together

Below, where I mention } 1st outright , I mean the quickest Porsche on the day with "R" spec road legal tyres ( NOT Racing Slicks )

1st outright and 1st in class 2 was Mark Croudace in his 997GT3 = 1.43:363
2nd outright and 2nd in class 2 was Warwick Morris in his 981GT4 = 1.43:715
3rd outright and 1st in class 1 was Mark Bloxham in his 31 year old 3.0L 951 = 1.45:034
4th outright and 2nd in class 1 was Sean Buchanan in his 31 year old 3.0L 951= 1.45:122

And whats nice is all the above cars drove to the circuit on their tyres & raced and drove home , and if there was a class for competing Porsche's that were used 6 days a week driving to and from work , then Sean's 951 would have been first outright ( but there is no class that that )

The below is a small list of what came in behind these guys

997GT3 , 911RSR Replica , 996GT3 , 997GT3RS , 981Cayman , 991GT3 , 981GT4 , 981 GT4 , 996GT3 , 987 GT4 , 981GT4

Sean normally does a 1.43 in his 951 on the GP circuit , but in the early sessions , these are the most crowded & its very easy to not get a clean fast lap because of just coming up to one car and slowing you for a few seconds ( that fast lap is gone ) , so its not easy for all competitors to not just get a clean lap in , but during that unexpected clean lap you also make no mistakes at all , this clean lap & no mistakes could take all day or not at all , thats the fun thing about SuperSprints , its not racing , its you and you're car against the clock

What Sean & I was very pleased with is our customers Porsche's did very well on the day , Mark Bloxham in the car Sean built for him from scratch , his 1986 951 with a custom 8V 3.0L Vitesse Stage 5 ,E85 fuelled road & track car , and just recently Sean updated Marks car with some very trick lower control arms & the very large custom front discs & hats & the massive custom brake callipers Sean installed & talking to Mark yesterday , its now very stable and the brakes now gives him much greater confidence going very deep into corners at ludicrous speed chasing down GT3's

Then we have Chris Moriarty in his 1991 951 , Sean built his engine from scratch , still a 2.5 , but with slightly oversize Wossner Pistons and high quality custom con-rods , Sean ( very recently ) installed into Chris's car a new set of Moton CS coil over "with remotes" shocks & Eibach springs & Chris completely destroyed his previous best time & won class 5 & Chris still has the dreadful tall 951 final drive & no 4 plate competition LSD , Chris is going to be very fast once this is done

Shane Navin in his Targa Tasmania version ( meaning its designed by Sean to do that sort of event ) 951 that Sean built for him a few years ago came in 2nd in class 5

Then we had Michael Vinall in his 1985 2.5 944 won class 6 & Fred D'Cruz in his 1983 2.5 944 came in 2nd in class 6

So all in all , Team Buchanan did OK yesterday , but more importantly is the smiles on the faces of these guys after a good track run , its priceless

Bruce Buchanan
Buchanan Automotive

Today ,Sydney Motorsport Park ( EasternCreek ) , last competition event for 2016 & today was the decider on who would take out the PCNSW Drivers Championship & the PCNSW Motorkhana Championship ( Autocross ) , meaning the points earned during this year's Supersprint & Motorkhana events meant that there were quite a few competitors who were in the running for 1st , 2nd, or 3rd outright in the Drivers Championship ( combined points of Supersprint & Motorkhana) & also 1st , 2nd & 3rd in the Motorkhana Championship , so all the front runners in their this & last century Porsche's were very keen to say the least

Bigger than normal turnout of Porsche's competing today ( booked out & then some ) , perfect weather conditions , not that it matters much as the Motorkhana is mostly run on a wet course , Sean Buchanan in his 1986 3.0L 16V Porsche 951 ( 944 Turbo ) took an early lead in the Motorkhana sessions & his lead extended a bit further by the end of the last session , just as well because Sean hit a cone ( this means you are penalised 5 seconds ) , but his lead was big enough to absorb that penalty

Sean Buchanan has won the Porsche Club of NSW Drivers Championship for 2016 & if that wasn't enough he has also won the Porsche Club of NSW Motorkhana Championship for 2016 as well

Once we get the final results of the other places I will post them up

Congratulations to Sean for great driving throughout the year & superb car preparation ( essential in a 30 year old Porsche that is competing at this level & is a daily drive car )

Many thanks to all the volunteers who helped out during the year & congratulations to all who competed during the year

Regards

Bruce Buchanan

Buchanan Automotive

PS } I really do not know how Sean wins in Motorkhana in his way too stable & very quick 3.0L 951 , on paper its the most unlikely Porsche to do well in this event , I would much rather be in a Boxter Tip or a Boxter / Cayman with PDK , much easier to flick around the cones on the Motorkhana course

The clubs annual concourse is this Sunday, in the 11th hour I've decided to enter both my cars, especially as they are offering manufacturer provided 40th anniversary trophies for the most notable front engine transaxle cars. (although I doubt I have a chance at it)

Any other PFA members going? I'll be heading up to Dural from the south, we could meet somewhere en-route and drive up if there is.

Yesterday , Sydney Motorsport Park ( Eastern Creek ) , Supersprint No 5 ( last one for the year ) held on the North Circuit , early morning light rain , clearing by the time of the first speed group hit the track just after 9 am , but with light rain reappearing just after lunchtime & then clearing again

Good turn out of this and last century Porsche's & a good turn out of GT3's & the GT3's were split between different classes , some running racing slicks ( OA class ) & some running "R" spec tyres = class 1 or even class 2

Note } Supersprints are not about racing each other , its about the best lap time recorded

Sean Buchanan in his 1986 3.0L Twin Cam 16V E85 951 ( 944 Turbo ) drove well , couldn't beat his previous best time , but this is understandable as he was running "R" spec tyres that have been used over the last three years ( way way way too many heat cycles ) , they ( R spec tyres ) are at their best within a few heat cycles ( let alone hundreds ), but that said Sean still won his class ( Class 1 )

Mark Bloxham in his 3.0L 8 V E85 951 ( Sean built this car for Mark ) ) came in a close 2nd place in Class 1

Coming in 3rd place in Class 1 was a 991 GT3

There is one more PCNSW motor-sport event remaining for this year & its the last Motorkhana event , this will be the event that will decide the outcome of the Drivers Championship & the Motorkhana Championship for 2016

Sean is leading in both these championships at the moment , but we all know that anything can & does happen in Motor-sport ( we are not counting our chickens before they hatch )

Good to see a 30 year old last century Porsche to take the fight up against the latest and greatest Porsche's & do well as well , but then again the car is only 30% of the equation , the 70% is the driver , without a driver the car just sits there doing nothing

Regards

Bruce Buchanan
Buchanan Automotive
