Hi all,

looking for recommendations about tyres for a 997 Carrera S . Currently running Pirellis which I find harsh with lots of road noise. I’m looking for a good road tyre, not for track days but for every day use.

	Much appreciated

	hi all

	I am a real idiot.

I used a dry "chux" cleaning cloth to clean off some dry water spots on my car and in doing so have caused multiple linear scratches and lines on a small area of the black paint above the wheel arch

its only visible if you look closely and under certain light.

what damage have I done and how can it be fixed?

	any help appreciated

Unsure if Blackener is a real word but it explains what I am looking for.

I think I have asked this question before but cannot find the post so I am asking again.

What tyre "blackener" do people use. I have been using Maguairs Hot Shine Tyre Gel for years but I am sick and tired of the excess splatter I get on my cars (they are all white by the way). I have tried everything to ensure that the stuff is applied so it will not spatter, but there is always some excess in the groves and my nice clean car has black dots all down the side after the next drive. It drives me crazy.

Just thought i would share my experience polishing my car with a random orbital polisher.

First off this all started after a weekend away and my trip down the Putty Rd resulted in my car copping a bit of a beating from the falling/fallen sticks from the extremely high winds we encountered that day.

And i will say when it comes to my cars i am a bit OCD, but not as bad as some who take their cars down the road to a car wash when we do an over nighter, you know who you are.

I figure you pay decent money for a nice car you should keep it looking as best you can.

So when we were away Peter M offered to lend me his polishing gear to get the scratches out of my car. I tried some of my polish which will get rid of scratches and swirls and the marks were gone pretty swiftly. I then used some of Pete's compound and the difference was amazing. This compound was the Menzerna 500 heavy cut compound used with a cutting pad. by the end of the weekend i was on the Car care products Australia website searching for which kit i would buy.

I ended up with this https://www.carcareproducts.com. which from what i could tell was the same as Pete's.

It is a 3 stage compound system for doing almost any car, i used the heavy cut compound and on a car like mine i was glad i had 2 cutting pads in my kit because i used both on my car. As it is a solid color with no clearcoat the compound combined with the cutting pads really bites in to the paint and takes off a fine layer and reveals a deep gloss. Now this gloss gets better when you move down through the compounds and match it with the pads supplied, this is the result i achieved.

I have to say as well that i have no background in doing this sort of thing professionally and have no affiliation with car care products, this was just me having a go in my garage and getting a pretty satisfying result, it's not perfect but i'm happy. Sorry the pics aren't that great.

Spent the morning putting some lippy and make up on the BBC for the upcoming HangerBanger2.

I have always had trouble trying to remove those pesky tar spots that appear on your wheels.

Car wash and water just doesn't do it.

	Enter ........De..Solv-it.

Great product, and it's all natural.

squirt it on the tar and watch it dissolve.... Just like magic

Then do the car wash and water, straight after.

Bunnings sell it. Makes getting gunk of the wheels very very easy...

So I picked up a lovely 997.2 C4S today, and the clear paint protection film the protects the rear guards has yellowed slightly (its a white car, so does stand out a little). Does anyone have any experience with replacing these films?

I am fearful that peeling these off may take some paint also? Are these standard Porsche parts you can order, or do people just order online or source elsewhere? Appreciate any feedback.

I wasn't sure which section to put this in, but I guess at the end of the day it was about car care.....(and eating pizza)

Tman had mentioned how good Steve P's GT3 looked after Chris had given it a good ceramic coating recently.

So it was decided to give Tman's 993 the ceramic job as well.

A group of PFAers, aka "the elitists" put on our ballistic vests, helmets, lock nuts on the wheels and headed over to the Northern burbs.

Chris and Tman gave the 993 a cloth/clay job and then Chris prerformed his magic while the rest of us looked on and ate spicy sausages and Bread that BAFE had cooked for the ocassion.

Plus a few cold refreshers to wash it down with.

Tman showed his skills with 7 or 8 various pizzas which were cooked to perfection.

Great day was had by all. And...Chris has the 993 looking like a new one.

One would have thought after so many cars, that I would have heard of clay bars before. Nope... never had.

I was always very fastidious with my cars, hand washed once a week whether they needed it or not - always chamois dry and wax/polish every four washes. It always annoyed me that the paint on some of my cars still felt a little 'gritty' - even after all that.

Quite by chance today I found about about clay blocks. So, since I had the day off work - cruised down to the local auto shop and found the Meguiars kit my friend had told me about. (no, i don't work for them!).

Well, I have to say, I am very impressed. I guess you're all sitting back laughing 'yep... about time' - but to those of you that have never seen this stuff before - you'll be amazed. It is just so simple.

All I did was made sure the car was clean/free of dust - then sprayed on the provided 'quik detailer' fluid (kind of like soapy water). You get a piece of clay with the kit - i cut it in half and kneaded it out flat - sprayed some of the fluid on the back and then rubbed the area where I had just sprayed. You don't have to rub hard , or in any particular pattern. Takes a minute - then wipe the whole lot off with a micro fibre cloth. Job's done. The difference between the bit i did and the bit i didn't was clearly noticeable.

I did this on my 2012 Cruze (yep, test dummy...). I then went and analysed my Porsche. The paint is near perfect, but yes - on closer 'feel' it did have some grittiness to it. So - after five minutes - now it doesn't.

Anyway - excitement over .... Hope it might help someone out there !

Second Question

Removing the window tint

Seems to be two options

1. Scraper and razor blade

2. Add heaps of steam and pick at the film.

Anyone have any success with either option or an alternative?

Once again, Thanks

Hi there. Assuming I found my perfect modern Porsche but it was in a colour I didnt really like. Does anyone know the following:

	- Can you get it resprayed in a different colour and have it look factory good (or better)

	- How much would such a job cost?

	- In Melbourne, who would be a good company to go to for such a thing?

	- Assuming the new colour was not an outlandish colour, what do people think this would do to resale value? Would it tank based on not having the colour from the VIN?

	Appreciate any help.

Need some advice on removing old stone chip film from my car.

It looks like the film has been on from when the car was new, so around 20 years and is proving almost impossible to remove. It has started to go yellowish and crack.

Have used heat gun, chemicals etc and nothing seems to be working. Even a professional car detailers is having problems removing it.

Anyone have any suggestions? And if you have it, probably a good idea to refresh it every few years!!

	Appreciate any advice. Thanks.

Just a quick endorsement (if allowed) for Anthony at Alchemy Cosmetic Car Repairs (Moorabbin). I had a very very small dint on the rear quarter of my Cayman. I had to look hard to see it, but I knew it was there. I noticed @Philbee had mentioned Anthony. I waited and watched last Friday has he performed his little miracle. Great guy, great conversation with him and another customer and very reasonable cost. Most grateful for his service and expertise.

When entering the full concourse for your Porsche does the removal of the spray on corrosion gunk from the underside of your car go against the originally of the car. The spray on gunk is applied by the factory.

Sure it looks better when looking under the car but that is not how it left the factory.

I always thought that for the full concourse the car had to be as original as possible.

	Cheers
