Instead of annoying @Raven (and rightly so) I thought I'd start a thread about the future of Aussie motorsport, and what peoples perceptions are of where you think its heading.

As I mentioned elsewhere, the GT class HAS TO be a consideration as the premier class of motorsport in Australia, as it is recognised globally by manufacturers and seems to put bums on seats in Europe.

To me, Supercars here are dying a slow death. It has been on a steady decline since Ford and Holden manufacturing have pulled stumps in Oz, and the fans are gradually walking away from the sport. Shame, as without the passionate fans supporting the teams, they lose revenue from merchandise sales. That, and the switch to Foxtel has alienated MANY fans to the point where they just don't bother with it anymore.

GT's however seem to be gathering a lot more momentum with those same motorsport fans who are disgruntled with Supercars, and the 12 hour yesterday has people singing its praises on the Supercar Facebook page for providing great racing that isnt as, let's face it, a mundane 2 or 3 team annual endurance race for V8 powered cars that are supposed to resemble the vehicles that you can buy in a showroom. We all know that can't happen. I actually think it's quite boring now, and only watch the start, a few laps in the middle and the last few.

I haven't sat through any GT endurance race like I did yesterday, even with many Aussie drivers competing, so that wasnt the reason I did watch most of it (I have been a big fan of Matt Campbell for a few years since he started in the GT3 Cup here), yet the main reason for me was to watch different marques, drivers, teams etc etc. It was just bloody good to see some world class drivers driving hard at what is arguably the best track in the world.

GT racing has global recognition which has to be a lot more attractive to the Supercar boffins who insist on making it a very profitable business, and as I see a lot of it on Foxtel from Europe, it must be on their radar to head that way with Australian motorsport. Since a few Supercar drivers have gotten the boot or retired, they're already chasing or have drives overseas in the GT class, as they have the runs on the board with being household names here with the V8's and can pedal a car pretty well. Having Matt Campbell doing what he did with that epic drive didn't hurt having the motorsport world look at this country, and there is also the fact that The Bend Motorsport park have secured a round of the Asia Le mans series in 2020, so I hope it gains momentum to see more world class GT racing here

 What are your thoughts?

Did anyone watch the race today? This is the first year I’ve properly tuned in and I found it pretty entertaining. Great to see a close battle between so many manufacturers and completely different engineering philosophies and strengths/weaknesses to the cars.

How about the winning car and winning driver(s)... 👍

It seems Mercedes is sorted with Hamilton and Bottas and most other teams are basically there to make up the numbers, so unless he's accepting/accepted some serious coin from Mclaren or Williams, it's gotta be Ferrari I hope

This is horrifying. She's very very lucky she hit the other car and went over the fence into the building. If she'd hit the fence at that speed it would have been all over.

hey guys, here's probably the best place for this.

Long story short it's always been an ambition to do some sort of regular racing - work has completely permitted me but next year I'm planning for a lot more down time..

But I'm not sure what options are out there so thought I'd ask? Probably in WA or NSW depending on where I end up.

I'm not 100% sure what I'd run yet. I have a supra that I Was building for the track but I like the idea of a 944 or an early boxster. Any steer would be great, it's been years since I got on the track and am having serious withdrawals!

Australian Hill Climb Championship was run this weekend at John Bryant Park or Haunted Hills as it is know to PFA members. The PFA has had two very successful meetings there this year.

Many of you know it is my home track and have wanted to get the PFA down there enjoying the venue and everyone who comes say they want more.

I had National Class wins in Limited modified Road Class 2-4 lts when I equalled my PB 57.12sec and set Class Record. My other win and Class record was Production Sport Cars 2-3 lts with new PB down to 56.78sec. Hugh was there as well entered and won the Sports Cars 2-4 lts with his times coming down to a very well done 58.52secs with his limited time at the track.

Looking forward to seeing PFA members there at our next HH 2019 !

	Cheers, Mark

You have to be in it - to win it !

Great news that the driver who dominated Carrera Cup here in Oz, Matt Campbell, has been chosen as the Porsche junior in the Supercup championship in 2017. That kid has to be one of the best drivers I've seen for a while, and I reckon he'll go all the way to LMP1 in the WEC if he has a decent year. Let's hope Australian business gets behind him, and helps him go all the way
