<p>Due to sever peer group pressure (Edgy) here it is. The wine thread. Post your wine preferences here. Try to keep it to under $40 a bottle so we can all have a test drive. That means no Grange, no Hill of Grace, and no Old Bastard's (google it - Kaesler). Let us know what you accompany your wine with as well. Cheeses &amp; fruits? BBQ or roast meats? Creme Brulee? A Vegemite sandwich? Chocolate?</p><p></p><p>
I don't care about the label, but I do try to stick to certain vintages - the even years seem pretty consistent (2002 - 12) but it generally comes down to 1) price &amp; 2) availabliity. And I only drink Australian wines. </p><p></p><p>
So for mine, I like a nice Shiraz. I find it easy on the palate. Not like Cab Sav's, which make my mouth feel like my foot's gone to sleep. I like the fruitiness and the slightly spicy flavours. Had some rippers lately. Mirrool Creek 2005 was a beauty, as is my current chugger, a 2012 Anderson Hill Shiraz from the Adelaide Hills. I also like the Penfolds Bin 28 Kalimna. And the Langmeil wines are very nice. I have to say, the Bird in Hand Nest Egg is pretty damn good, but at the price it is, it's certainly not an everyday wine. However, their <em>Two In The Bush</em> Shiraz is a great everyday wine.</p><p></p><p>
I also don't mind a white once in a while if I'm having nicely prepared seafood or poultry. And if I'm having a good steak, like one of those big King Henry Prime Rib on the bone jobbies, I'l generally open an Adelaide Hills Pinot Noir.</p><p></p><p>
Also partial to a Gramps Botrytis Semmillon. Have a couple of late 90's &amp; early 2000's to get through. But I don't like Port. Or rather, it doesn't like me. It makes me go silly. </p><p></p><p>
Edit: drink responsibly, and don't drink and drive. </p><p></p><p><a href="http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys.php" rel="external nofollow"><img src="http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-eatdrink016.gif" alt="smiley-eatdrink016.gif"></a></p>

	This could be a vent for the grumpy old men. Particulary those in Melbourne
</p>

<p>
	It took me nearly 40mins to drive from Malvern to Hawthorn, admittedly at school pick up time.  Thats about the same distance as  Rose Bay to Kings Cross.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	So aside from making kiddies cath trams, what can we do?  Heres a few.
</p>

<p>
	Remove level crossings
</p>

<p>
	Get cyclists to ride on the bike paths
</p>

<p>
	Ban parking within 75meters from an intersection
</p>

<p>
	Remove red arrows - dumbest invention ever
</p>

<p>
	Teach women in European SUVs to drive
</p>

<p>
	Force Private school kiddies to catch public transport
</p>

<p>
	Limit the access Ford Rangers have to  north/south roads
</p>

	Loaning a friend a big sum of money for a couple of months and getting that same amount back.?
</p>

<p>
	One for the finance / legal eagles..  I've offered to loan a friend a sizable sum of money to buy a sizable asset which they will repay on the sale of their existing sizable asset.
</p>

<p>
	Other than the trust factor and the 'she'll be rite mate', which I have faith in, is the ATO going to creep up on me from behind and say 'Oi, what's going on here then.'  The friend can't afford said asset until existing asset is sold, but said asset needs to be bought pronto.  Officially bridging the finance gap isn't an option, because the gap is too big for old mate to bridge.!  I intend to get an agreement drawn up, but I suppose my question is, if $X leaves my account and gets deposited into their account, and a while later that same amount comes back to my account, is there going to be a problem with the powers that be..?
</p>

<p>
	There will be no money made in this transaction - is basically a back and forth deal - though I reserve the right to a 'carton of beer' as form of compensation for loss of interest for the interim.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Cheers Guru's..!

<p>
	Whilst trying to de-clutter my front-end... Is it legal to install my license plate lower than what is expected on this model?
</p>

<p>
	Searched VicRoads websites and I only see a 45 degree rule visibility from top.
</p>

<p>
	Also when I see the old 911s with the plate angled down and very low near the ground, I think this could work.
</p>

<p>
	Any thoughts?

<p>
	Open air carrier is fine and I'll need door to depot. Hoping to find something under $700 otherwise it's cheaper to fly up and drive it back myself.
</p>

<p>
	I've looked at CEVA but they're a bit on the expensive side at $745 (depot to depot) for what I need and look like their service has gone a bit down hill.
</p>

<p>
	Pixcar is quoting $741.
</p>

<p>
	Anyone dealt with Australian Car Transport? They're quoting $552 which seem like a good deal,

<p>
	Hi All,
</p>

<p>
	November, 2017:
</p>

<p>
	enjoyed a great drive with the crew on the "North meets South SMT", however,  the drive home became pure agony plus the need to stop at every second tree.
</p>

<p>
	The next week, I decided to see a doctor and the "finger in the bum" check.
</p>

<p>
	"bit swollen top 90%, how about we check your PSA and send you to a specialist?"
</p>

<p>
	December 2017:
</p>

<p>
	"yep, swollen. We need to do an oblation to shrink the P.  How's your PSA?.  Oh, 4.7, bit high ( 4 is the upper level) we will do a biopsy to be safe" <img alt=":unsure:" data-emoticon="" src="//content.invisioncic.com/o114742/emoticons/default_unsure.png" title=":unsure:" /><img alt=":wacko:" data-emoticon="" src="//content.invisioncic.com/o114742/emoticons/default_wacko.png" title=":wacko:" /></p>

<p>
	but it's only just over, should be ok….right?
</p>

<p>
	January 4 2018:
</p>

<p>
	couldn't find an excuse so biopsy.  What a PITA !
</p>

<p>
	January 9
</p>

<p>
	I want to see you tomorrow………oh crap <img alt=":huh:" data-emoticon="" src="//content.invisioncic.com/o114742/emoticons/default_huh.png" title=":huh:" /></p>

<p>
	January 10
</p>

<p>
	You have early-intermediate cancer.  Completely operable, completely curable.
</p>

<p>
	Januay 14
</p>

<p>
	MRI to confirm the C hasn't spread.
</p>

<p>
	January 18
</p>

<p>
	Result negative.  Good news.
</p>

<p>
	We operate on March 24
</p>

<p>
	So as you can see this all happens quick. So regardless of whether you have symptoms or not, go and get your P and PSA checked so that you can enjoy your SMT in your P with PFA.
</p>

<p>
	…...and find a specialist that uses robotics or ultrasonics, not the old open cut method. it's now 2 days in hospital, not 2 weeks.
</p>

<p>
	I didn't write this for your sympathy ( I know how sympathethic you lot are <img alt=":lol:" data-emoticon="" src="//content.invisioncic.com/o114742/emoticons/default_laugh.png" title=":lol:" /> ), I wanted to get the message out there.
</p>

<p>
	Cheers
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>

	<span style="background-color:#ffffff;color:#1d2129;font-size:14px;">I am glutton for punishment, and I have done it again. I have just picked up ANOTHER project car!! </span>
</p>

<p>
	<font color="#1d2129">I have decided to build some short term projects alongside my long term ones. These will be slightly more simple, rolling resto's. Tidy them up, and drive them for a while and them move them on and experience something else.</font>
</p>

<p>
	<font color="#1d2129">So that brings me to this project. I have just bought myself a 1971 Super Bug. I have very little experience with Beetles, but I am keen to learn (and it is aircooled of course <img alt=";)" data-emoticon="" height="20" src="//content.invisioncic.com/o114742/emoticons/default_wink.png" srcset="//content.invisioncic.com/o114742/emoticons/wink@2x.png 2x" title=";)" width="20" /> ).</font>
</p>

<p>
	<font color="#1d2129">It should be fun, and I am looking forward to watching it all come together to match the picture in my head. </font>

<p>
	One project on the long renovation list is to add a car port, I have a 6 x 6m concrete parking space at the end of my driveway and the future plan is to build up by back fill or pier &amp; beam to as the land drops away about 1-2m behind the car spot, the plan is to build another garage there and connect it to the carport eventually*.
</p>

<p>
	Now, I have done some ringing around and online research, the standard size 'carport' from the likes of Stratco is only 5.4 x 5.4.. it looks like this:
</p>

<p>
	<img class="ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed" data-fileid="4778" src="//content.invisioncic.com/o114742/monthly_2019_01/card-1x1-carport-range-frontier.jpg.7ba9190d558afa722a6e84a1560d4b21.jpg" alt="card-1x1-carport-range-frontier.jpg.7ba9190d558afa722a6e84a1560d4b21.jpg" /></p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Pretty plain, but for the circa $2k its fine, now I called them and Ranbuild about doing a 6 x 6m and the costs go up considerably.. mainly because it is a custom build for them and it comes from a different product line... we got quotes of $7-8k for this. At this point I am thinking to myself for fucks sake... here comes another snow ball project. And then I happen upon <a contenteditable="false" data-ipshover="" data-ipshover-target="https://porscheforum.com.au/profile/58-hugh/?do=hovercard" data-mentionid="58" href="https://porscheforum.com.au/profile/58-hugh/" rel="">@hugh</a>'s instagram and carport... which just threw flames on the fire!
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	So I am thinking of going with something more architectural, which will suit the rest of the renovation, but it is freestanding... here is some ideas I am looking at:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	I like the cleanliness of this and simplicity, but that equals big $$
</p>

<p>
	<img class="ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed" data-fileid="4779" src="//content.invisioncic.com/o114742/monthly_2019_01/b_730_e7f64e08-824c-49d5-9808-74fa574bc272.jpg.dc2c763c70b03ee73f4afedacb944270.jpg" alt="b_730_e7f64e08-824c-49d5-9808-74fa574bc272.jpg.dc2c763c70b03ee73f4afedacb944270.jpg" /></p>

<p>
	<a class="ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image" href="//content.invisioncic.com/o114742/monthly_2019_01/modern-carport.jpg.542e109efda81913fbe06897400ecd5b.jpg" data-fileid="4780" rel=""><img class="ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed" data-fileid="4780" src="//content.invisioncic.com/o114742/monthly_2019_01/modern-carport.thumb.jpg.ddd5d3c3ac47f8138aa9a409558c497c.jpg" alt="modern-carport.thumb.jpg.ddd5d3c3ac47f8138aa9a409558c497c.jpg" /></a>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	I like the finish on this, as its exactly what the house is being re-clad in, its Hardie Scyon, same colour black...
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<img class="ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed" data-fileid="4781" src="//content.invisioncic.com/o114742/monthly_2019_01/woodend-finished-025.jpg.de2210c7d2f3b207d85b6d217ca8731b.jpg" alt="woodend-finished-025.jpg.de2210c7d2f3b207d85b6d217ca8731b.jpg" /></p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Hugh (hope its ok to share) has a nice idea of storage integration in his (on the left) so I'd probably opt to add to the slab and build this in too.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<div class="ipsEmbeddedOther">
	<iframe allowfullscreen="" data-controller="core.front.core.autosizeiframe" data-embedid="embed6715273626" scrolling="no" src="https://porscheforum.com.au/index.php?app=core&amp;module=system&amp;controller=embed&amp;url=https://www.instagram.com/p/BrgayMDlITS/?hl=en" style="height:693px;"></iframe>
</div>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	I guess what I am seeking is the best method of construction for going this route, trying to keep the cost sensible and build time to a minimum, the words pre-fab come to mind, but then I have a pretty good carpenter who could probably knock up the frames, use CLT beams and clad it for me, I could then get other trades to finish off i.e. electrician.
</p>

<p>
	cheers
</p>

No rust to speak of and no accident damage.</p><p>Plan is to strip it back to a shell, paint it then stuffed full of goodies. Under the bonnet will be a ported series 7 13b turbo, precision turbo, modern cooling system and haltec engine management. Underneath will be modern suspension, VT Clubsport brakes, supra gearbox and 9" diff. <p>
	I've been looking a little while for a car to use at Club Sprints and Hill climbs. Without being able to insure the Porsche for the track and not having raced before I wanted something cheaper to take out first.<br /><br />
	Prerequisites were it needed to be a two seater with good power to begin with and easily modified for more. It also needed to be pre 1993 so that it can go on club plates. With all that in mind, I narrowed my search to the hardtop Gen 2 MR2 Turbo.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="2ldh8hl.jpg" class="ipsImage" height="750" src="http://i67.tinypic.com/2ldh8hl.jpg" width="1000" /></p>

<p>
	End result is I bought this 1992 JDM (turbo MR2's were not imported by Toyota) SW20 in Queensland last Friday. I tested it out by driving it over 1900km back home via the furnace that is inland NSW! Kidneys got a workout on the bumpy roads with stiff suspension as did the air conditioner with the temps being in the 40's!<br /><br />
	Some modifications have been already made ( Link plug in ECU running 14 psi. Tein coilovers, front Wilwood brakes, gfb blow off valve and 3"turboback exhaust ) which has the car comfortably putting out 234 hp at the rear wheels.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="35i2dle.jpg" class="ipsImage" height="750" src="http://i67.tinypic.com/35i2dle.jpg" width="1000" /></p>

<p>
	I had originally planned to strip the car I bought out and fit a half cage, race seat etc But as it is such a very clean unmolested example I will leave much as it is. Biggest tweaking will be the suspension and wider rubber with a track focus in mind. If I get the racing bug bad I will then consider a race only car!
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="34j3s6h.jpg" class="ipsImage" height="750" src="http://i68.tinypic.com/34j3s6h.jpg" width="1000" /></p>

	OK I've been making beers from kits for 25+ years
</p>

<p>
	The easy way.
</p>

<p>
	Now I'm gathering equipment to do it the proper way. Mash lauter tun , sparging - the whole works.
</p>

<p>
	It should be fun , and get the neurones out of bed.
</p>

<p>
	I'd be interested to hear of others' experiences and setups.
</p>

<p>
	Of course , technology is always making things easier. If you are part of the latte set or need to impress the Jones's,
</p>

<p>
	this may appeal. Until the check engine light comes on.
</p>

<p>
	But I like to get my hands dirty! I am also going to grow hops. One already in the ground.

</div>

<p style="color:#2e2e2e;font-size:17px;">
	<span style="font-size:14px;"><font style="vertical-align:inherit;"><font style="vertical-align:inherit;">This is the case of Manoj Bhargava, born in India and American today, who created a bike that can fill, in just one hour of pedaling , the energy needs of a home.</font></font></span>
</p>

<h2 style="color:#9f0047;font-size:24px;">
	<span style="font-size:14px;"><font style="vertical-align:inherit;"><font style="vertical-align:inherit;">Reduce costs and fight obesity</font></font></span>
</h2>

<p style="color:#2e2e2e;font-size:17px;">
	<span style="font-size:14px;"><font style="vertical-align:inherit;"><font style="vertical-align:inherit;">The bike invented by Manoj Bhargava is, so to speak, revolutionary , and produces "clean" energy that is easy to obtain. According to Esprit Science Metaphysics, nearly 3 billion people on earth do not have access to electricity. </font><font style="vertical-align:inherit;">With this free hybrid device, it is possible to provide enough energy for a house for 24 hours, and this by pedaling only an hour. </font><font style="vertical-align:inherit;">Each pedal revolution drives a flywheel, which slowly launches a generator that can charge any battery.</font></font></span>
</p>

<p style="color:#2e2e2e;font-size:17px;">
	<span style="font-size:14px;"><font style="vertical-align:inherit;"><font style="vertical-align:inherit;">The most energy-rich countries are also the most developed, and access to culture is greatly facilitated by this: that is why Manoj Bhargava would like, from next year, to offer 10,000 prototypes of his bike to the India, to improve in its own way the precarious living conditions of a large segment of the population.</font></font></span>
</p>

<p style="color:#2e2e2e;font-size:17px;">

<p>
	I noticed a couple of posts on "What did I do to my Porsche today" where people had confessed a couple of silly things they have do in the past e.g forgot to put in sump plug before filling up with new oil, so I thought it would be interesting to hear some of the stories out there about crazy or brain fade errors we have made in days gone by.  I will kick it off with this little memory.

<p>
	Many years ago when I was 18 I came home from work and my dad was working at the back of his Rambler Hornet in the garage.  I asked, "what you doing dad?" and he explained that the reversing lights did not seem to be working.  I said "can I help?"  To which he replied, yeah start her up.  Which I did.  Then, "put her in reverse". Which again I did by leaning over the seat whilst standing in the open drivers door, checking the hand brake was on and clicking it into reverse.  Dad did not see me doing this as he was working down low at the rear of the car with the boot up.  About now is where my 18 year old brain must have faded and started to lose interest, when dad then said "now put your foot on the brake".  I for some reason heard this as "rev it up a bit" (which I often did from the open door when working on my "manual" Datsun 1600).  So for some stupid reason I proceeded to apply great pressure to the accelerator.  All of a sudden the car was laying rubber and then travelling at great speed in reverse out of the garage with me hanging on to the open drivers door.  The said door soon collected the garage wall and garage door which proceeded to crumple the drivers door into the front guard before the whole car jerked sideways and stopped.  At the time my dad was on the floor at the rear of the car moaning, and fearing I had run him over I ran to him to see if he was ok, but no injuries as he had managed to get out of the way of the rapidly reversing car.   He was just lying on the ground crying into his hands at the mess and then yelling at me for wrecking his nice new much loved Rambler Hornet.
