With the 992 coming soon, it’s got to put downward pressure on all previous generations. There are only so many people who are prepared to shell out that much coin for an old vehicle with no mod cons or warranty when there is a nice newish carrot dangling for similar coin (e.g. 991). Thus the older 996 and 997 are somewhat niche in my opinion. We on these forums are enthusiasts but not everyone views the older cars the way we might.

I offered $220k on some 991.1’s GT3’s and got laughed at. Will see what the future brings. Maybe a 997.1 GT3 is where the smart money is at anyway.

I really fail to see how mk1 sellers ask so much. I wouldn't believe the market is meeting the asking prices.

That might be his plan? 😂
I did it last year when selling... I took a break for a month or two, as I realised it was me who wasn’t ready to deal with it... once I got my head space sorted and better presented the ad, the car sold right away, it turns out the buyer was “watching it” and got FOMO once he thought it sold, so when it was re-listed he wasted no time getting the deal done.
No marketing genius, but what’s that old cliche about timing? 😎

Car seems to be fine , just let go one of the crappy bonded coolant hoses , so I guess it’s time to drop the engine and redo them all going forward ... my own fault for not trailering up in the first place and putting a jinx on it !!
yeah exactly that I think , looking at it this Am it’s rotated the wheel ever so slightly putting a bit of slack into the strapping .... note to self for next time !

I was having a look at this, the fabspeed kit is easily reversible back to stock...Maybe it's the k's on the clock, GT cars price seems to be swayed by k's more than any other porsche.
Also the ad blurb of "Priced to sell, too many cars not enough garage space. Need funds for house deposit."
Pick one mate, may as well have thrown in a new baby as a reason for selling too to ensure all bases covered.

The cheapie has been sitting a while probably because it’s modified with the Fabspeed GT450 kit which offers 400hp at the wheels (US$8.3k plus install). I assume most buyers prefer factory original so offer him $140k, throw in a $2k AGI half cage and a race seat/harness and it’d be a pretty good (& cheap for a Porsche with that performance) track car and weekender.

Just need sellers to get real re price.....cheapest on Carsales is $350k plus on roads = $381k on road in Vic. Stupid. Looks like I’m best to keep my deliberations to myself going forward. Adios.

Astonishing lap time 1:37.7 in 991.2 GT3 RS. But it looks so clinical, is it “fun”? Discuss.

I totally agree with you. Due to the whole Aussie delivery mentality I have decided not to bring back my 996 GT3 RS and 964 RS both in absolute first class condition and both have been featured in Total911 magazine. Both are probably in better condition than any of the handful of 996 GT3 RS and 964 RSs in Australia. So that will be two important car lost to the local market due to the Aussie delivery mentality. Indeed, Australia IMO is becoming the Cuba of Porsches. Even if the car is a bitza and held together with string and sticky tape, it doesn’t matter because “maaaate...It’s an Aussie delivered car”
With regards to your 968, it looks in terrific condition supported by the excellent paperwork of a strong service record and MOTs. By rights, it should sell in a heartbeat.

There is no doubt in my mind that the 991.1 GT3 is a sweeter sounding engine compared to the 991.2. However, as an overall package, the 991.2 is a better car. It rides better, steers a lot better and the increase in the bottom-end, and mid-range, torque is very noticeable. If I had to choose one, it would be the 991.2 for sure but a 991.2 with a new engine, at a good price, is a great ownership proposition.
Interestingly, my 991.2 was PDK and my GT3 Touring was manual of course. In terms of mid-range stonk and throttle response, the Touring was noticeably stronger than the PDK, indeed I reckon it was as strong as my RS. I put that down to the drive train loss you get in the PDK which is greater than a manual. But, I would still choose a PDK GT3 over a manual because, at least for me anyway, I could get more out of the car with the PDK than the manual.
Also, when I sold the GT3 Touring only a few weeks ago, the buyer got an over revs report and it showed an over rev way over 9,000 rpm due to a mis-shift on my behalf on track one day. I had to get a compression test, etc done by Porsche to try and convince him that it was no problem and even though Porsche gave the car a clean bill of health, he wasn’t convinced and wanted a 30K discount on the price which I wasn’t prepared to give. The next half dozen prospects all reacted the same to the over revs report and wanted discounts. Ended up I had to discount the car to meet the market in order to move the car along. So the moral of the story here is don’t mis-shift your manual GT3, or if you a buying one, get an over revs report and bargain hard. I bet there are very few manual GT3s out there that have not mis-shifted.

I have heard that from a couple of people but race engines with solid lifters have always been more “heavy metal” sounding than the placid road oriented hydraulic lifter engines. After all one of the features of hydraulic lifters is their relative quietness. If you want a race car for the road then best to have a race engine and not an over stressed road engine being operated beyond is limits acting like a ticking time bom.

Awesome day spectating albeit damn hot.
Thanks @Skidmarks for the IROC TCM hot laps. I’d never ridden in an old air cooled 911 so why not start with a 410hp/920kg race car 😂
Shit video, I was focussed on keeping my head up. But the noise....😍. Grip and braking were phenomenal and Sven knows how to pedal it hard. 🙏

Speak to @WGA - he PM’d me recently, he’s owned both and had an engine failure in .1.
While he said he’d go for .2 for peace of mind, he also said his old car is still going strong after Porsche rebuilt to G series spec and the.1 had a sweeter more sonorous, less gruff engine note.
I do like that sapphire blue car 😍. At 200k...

Today was my first day at a PFA event for a while. There were a lot of new (to me) faces and a few familiar. It was great to catch up.

On GT3 values and on likelihood of GT4RS being squirreled away, a reminder these were both comments made by PCB...............not me.
I have NFI but i'll be happy to see more cars changing hands at 2 & 3/4. But the reality is there are more being listed north of 350 than sub 300 at present which is confusing.

I feel your pain. I’ve stayed away from Winton for a few years as I used to get motion sickness every time from the left right left right G forces. I used to have to lie on my back on the cold concrete after each session to get myself right and avoid 🤮.
It’s been a few years so I was a bit concerned I might get crook in Sven’s orange beast but took the punt and for some reason I was fine despite the big lateral grip and heat.
My wife has suggested a few times I should give up Motorsport and take up golf.....🤔😂
