Yeah I'm a messy prick too, and yes the stains are a bit of a pain.

As my progress getting the Cheetah mk6 Historic Australian Formula 2 running has been glacial plus still need organising the Certificate of Description, I thought a running and logbooked car to learn in now would be a sensible idea. As long as I don't bend it, I expect I will be able to move it on for similar to what I paid for it; which honestly wasn't much to begin with.
Therefore just home from a 2400km return journey over the weekend to Forster Tuncurry to collect this 1977 Mako Mk1 Formula Vee.
Been over a decade since I last drove to Sydney and must say now the Hume is duplicated the whole way and with the bypasses made it a much more pleasant trip. Plus the tolls including the NorthConnex tunnel meant a smooth non stop trip through Sydney!

Quick break at the Hawkesbury River rest stop heading South yesterday.

For me, I really think quick jacks are not worth the money. They do have some higher lift ones now that may be better, but they are heavy and clumsy to use and with a good trolley jack, you can get the car up on jackstands just as high in almost the same time and a whole lot less money. For not much more you can get Maxjax if you don't have room for a full 2 post hoist and you can really get the car in the air.
The issue I see with carpet tiles is that you don't slide on them as easily and I can imagine all of the oil and metal shavings (granted I am much messier than the average bloke) getting in them and making them worse than the concrete

Drives me crazy listening the the blatant lie they are spouting on the radio here that 'casual speeding is the major cause of deaths on NSW roads'. Such a crock of sh!t. As a firie I go to hundreds of MVA's (motor vehicle accidents) every year and 99% of them are due to people not paying attention, ie looking at their phones, etc. Speeding is so rarely a factor. Every now and then there are kids driving beyond their abilities, but that is a tiny percentage, at least in my real world observation.

Agree with Jeff re the creeper.
He used to be a break dancer, so don't fall for the cardboard on the cement for working on the car crap. He used that for busting a groove to Chaka Khan and the Rock Steady crew.
I've gone upmarket and laid some carpet tiles down.

No matter what height I get a car off the ground I always find a creeper is too high and limits my movement. I have had a couple over the years and never ever use them. I find a large cardboard box folded flat is the best creeper. It keeps you off the cold concrete and the dirty floor and you can slide over it really easily. Once it is too dirty you just put it in the recycling and get another one

I'd say it's not that the UK cars are a bargain, it's that those AU cars are priced too high (and may have been sitting for a while on carsales)  Last reference I have of one changing hands is a black on black 964 C2 manual, aust delivered for $190k early this year.

Yep, my HK import has less rust than most of the Oz delivered cars I've looked at for others

Yep, the key is being able to inspect and know what you’re getting into. I already own 2 cars I brought with us from the U.K. 11 years ago, I’m well aware of what they can look like and need.
I’m in the middle of restoring 2 Range Rover’s that have spent their life in Oz, the rust repairs have been extensive. To say that Oz delivered cars of any manufacture are rust free is false, I’ve seen 911’s here that are just as rusty because of the environment in which they’ve lived. The flip side is my 87 Targa doesn’t have a pick of rust anywhere, but then it was a country car then was stored in a warehouse for 20 years.
