The original Nations Cup Cars were RHD (delivered and able to be registered) MK1 GT3's, this is before Cup Cars become available (996.2's). That's why the MK1 is such a special car, it is essentially a road registered Cup Car of the era. As time has gone on the gap between road GT3 & Cup Car has grown significantly, they are now completely different cars. That wasn't always the case though. That's why these Nations Cup Cars in particular are so interesting, especially seeing them still getting around on the road and registered!

964 with a worked 3.8 or 4.0 and a suspension setup for me , ooh and a set of real nice sports seats and a bigger brakes  please then we are getting to it.
Mine is 99 percent stock but they do call to be played with and in terms of AC cars the 993 is much better handling .
They are for a weekender heaps and bounds ahead of a G series in terms of comfort, the chassis light years ahead and I feel offer more liveability if your a one car owner , especially if u got the female fun financial controller in the mix
They are plenty capable in standard form in the mountains 😂 trust me I know I tested the S  M T arga theory
That all said we rarely get to tax the tech capabilities of any of theses cars SC , 3.2s or 964s or 993s but we do love to compare .
As an addict of NA 8k plus cars with a further boost addiction , I will confess the 964 I thought I knew from forums and in my mind TOTALLY BLEW MY SOCKS OFF driving all weekend and impressed no end with the speedy drive, fun, smiles .  I repeat the fun that I had in this little vanilla baby in my last two drives outta Melbourne A+
PS real world I feel they they don’t leak oil (yet!), buy a trickle charger and C2 in the rain handles fine under pressure
PPS Targas don’t even have scuttle shake or flex on the road , I challenge anyone to feel it ., it’s forum banter , I love a Targa with the roof off on an icy road
Are they a 150k car ??? It is more like  most liveable vs most exciting is vey hard to compare 😆 when u got TT and GT        Options in that price arena , a question left open for more debate , for sure they are 100-150k if SC and 3.2s are 100k plus

Aus Del carrera 3.o, Lots of good gear/time/money spent to get to this point, fresh 3.8lt.Makes other similar type cars on the market look bit sad in comparison. As people say couldn't build for that sort of money.
Good buying around that price for the right person/application.

Correct with a 997 cup car engine. Car now runs it’s original 996 engine and gearbox.

Yes, apples & oranges in many ways but there are comparisons that can be made.
I’d regard the 964 as the best of the old 911’s, old school but with a touch of new school.
996 is the best of the new stuff. New school but still with a touch of old school.
Obviously the simplified version but hopefully you get what I mean. Each bridge a gap in era, just in different ways.

Haha. It’s always a fair point with the valuations mate. Like I said, doesn’t always make rational sense.
For me it’s simple. Just always wanted one. I loved the styling from day one and always will. Love how well they take to customizing too.
    Oh here’s mine!

Many great comments and a fair discussion by all.  Whilst I went from an ‘85 Carrera to my 996, I can certainly appreciate where the 964 fits into the continued evolution of the legend that is Porsche 911.
I didn’t want to hijack the thread to being a 964 Vs 996 argument, so I’ll bugger off back to the ‘996 GT3 Market Watch’  thread, and leave you 964 lovin’ guys to enjoy & discuss all things 964.
Ultimately if it has a Porsche badge, I‘m a fan, except maybe the 914 (sorry, couldn’t help myself!) 👍

Because they weren't fully developed cars being done when Porsche had no money. Hence the fat bumpers and nothing else much done to make the car better looks wise (subjective). Car still didn't handle great, 4wd version was over complicated. It was deemed not enough of anything at the time.
Was thinking of adding back another 964 coupe to the garage but prices are not aligned with my views on the 964. And having owned one through the era when the 964 was reviled as much as the 996 is today, I can't ever justify spending so high on a 964 (unless it's a Speedster or a special model). And when thinking about where the real value is today... Your car is it. New school with enough old school and genuine rarity. Will wait till 964s get back to below 993s before I get back into one. And if they don't, will just live with the 964 cab. Or buy a 996 GT3.

Thank you to all who made the effort and the journey.
Another great day out for car nuts!
Was great to see my old 356 rat rod. I’ve seen more of it since I sold it that’s when I owned it - which shows it was a good move to sell it.  Shame for Ferrari Daytona parked next to it.   Hardly got a look in!

Jumped out of bed at last minute decision to actually head down. Great run down on eastlink, joined up with some 7 others, sweet little roads along to flinders.
Good mix of cars, not stupidly busy. I left after 2 hours and headed along boneo, great scenery, went all the way from rosebud along the water and back onto eastlink.
I reckon will make it next year!

Up for sale is my 1980 (MY81) 911SC Targa in it's original factory guards red with beige leather interior.  It has 280k kilometres on the clock.
I have owned this car for 18 months and it has been a joy to own, I have done a few things ($20k worth of parts and labour in this period) in my ownership which have brought it back to its original glory:
New Carpets (Biscuit colour square weave)  Wevo shift kit Leather seats restored Targa roof restored by Dan Petchel in the US (apparently he is the best!) New door cards to replace the aged bent cardboard ones Elephant racing complete suspension restoration package (dramatic improvement in handling and agility) New alternator Services by Porsche Centre Melbourne All new targa roof seals supplied by Porsche Melbourne
Aside from that it is a very honest fun car, it's the epitome of the 80's. As can be seen from the Christmas tree on the roof it's a surprisingly practical car too!
It comes with a period correct Blaupunkt Dusseldorf radio (Bluetooth upgrade by Chrome London for the vintage look but modern functionality).
Lots of the usual culprits and minor things which are a hassle with a car of this vintage have been repaired and work as new, the factory auto heat works as intended which is rare!
If anything were still to be done to it they are minor, I’d replace the rear reflector and maybe new seatbelts…Aside from that the car is a peach.
I am offering it to the forum for a couple of weeks prior to going to carsales or similar, I’d love to see this car end up with someone who will appreciate it and keep it in great condition.  Asking price is $90k which I think is great value for a car in this condition..  If you are serious and want to have a chat drop me a message and I would be happy to discuss every detail of this car.  I am in Armadale, Victoria and can arrange a time for anyone to view.  As can be seen in the photos I am a huge fan of the car and will be sad to see it go!  There is a comprehensive history attached as a PDF...As you can see I don't mind a bit of detail, this took ages to pull together!
