I'm sure this has been covered before but does anyone have any recomendations for non daily driver insurance? I have a quote from Shannons & Porsche. Tried Lumleys but they refered me to a broker. I'm in NSW. Thanks in advance.

The service you get/ or don't get when you make a claim quickly makes a cheaper price less relevant... Shannons for me. Have all cars and house with them, get really good rates and no hassles on recent claim (write off) :)

Hi Greg,

Long time no speak.

Can I ask why are you changing?

I have been quite unhappy with Shannon's, and Porsche insurance (essentially a broker) were a punish when I had a claim, so I've been looking to change.

Following the advice above, I called famous, basically saving me over $2300 on two cars... inclusions are good like P insurance and best of all this is not a restricted policy for the GT3... Choice of repairer too.

Hi edgy, yes long time no speak. I sold the GTS early this year as I purchased  a new place in Berry down a gravel rd & the GTS with the lower sports suspension dragged its guts all the way. Since then I have rebuilt the rd & am picking up a 991.2 S manual on Tuesday. Insurance so far is Shannons $3670, Famous $2,689 & Porsche $2,470. Got one more quote from Calidens coming through my broker. I'll post some photos.

Nice one!

Glad to hear all is good, now that is the review we all want to hear; your review on the 991.2 C2S and how it stacks up against the NA predecessors... seeing how you've basically owned every water-cooled 911 c2s!

Yes, I can't wait, been feeling like a bit of a voyeur on the forum without a P car. I had a test drive & initial impressions are the sound is not the same but if you hadn't had a NA previously its perfect. Goes like a shower though, gear change is about the same as the GTS but steering is better. Full report soon.

You could also try Ryno insurance ....

Classic car specialists and they seem to follow and know the market on values .....

Ryno's underwriter seems to be back in and out of the market like the weather changes in Melbourne

I have had my audi insured with them for a while and very good rates along with mods they will cover and customer service to take your money (no comment when the tables are turned) and provide quotes etc is very good.  However, when I tried to insure my 996 in Feb 2016 with them a well as a package deal, they declined.  Story was Lloyd's of London who are the ultimate underwriters appeart to have got out of he P market again in Oz, on the back of their actuary calculations being way off base as they had a sizable amoint of P loss leading claims  that well execeded the revenue from P policies written, and hence put a freeze on insuring P cars again

Ended up going with Porsche insurance, they were about the same as Famous. Shannons was 30% more. Porsche is underwritten by QBE while Famous are underwritten by a UK company.

I ended up switching thanks to your thread! Saved me some good coin too! ($2k + on 2 cars) Ended up with Famous, oddly their underwriters were the same as when I had P insurance?

Anyway, all the good inclusions, choice of repairer, cheaper and track day cover for any CAMS sanctioned events I attend. It's not a full value policy (the CAMS cover) but rather they pay you $10k in the case you have an unforeseen incident. Only for L2S events and lower... suits me fine.

  • 1 month later...

I've been with shannons for almost 10 years.  I called them up recently to advise that my 993 has been fitted with a new set of wheels.  I told them the price of the wheels and they increased my premium by about $85.  Fair enough.  The car is now "worth" a few grand more and it's "a bigger risk".   (Air quotes used liberally)

They sent me the policy in the mail and they've dropped value of the car by $3000.  WTF?

Ouch, not sure how a 993 can be worth less money let alone with new wheels, time to shop around me thinks.
