Funny you post this, I've been thinking the same plan the last couple of weeks!

There is one on cheap that has had a 3.4 S conversion done too!

But I like the idea of an early 2.5.  Kind of goes with my 924 ethos.  Both of which are more of a keeping your license ethos...

This is such a good idea and so bad at the same time. I would want it in a 987. Just take the roof out and plug with spyder style humps for a dry day weapon. Agree that it has to be silver. How much weight could be pulled out easily? 100kg? 200kg?  Seat swap, roof out, carpets out, light weight zorst and battery. etc and so forth would get that power to weight ratio in a nice direction. Wouldn't need the S after that!

where???

$16900. Listed as an S but ad describes conversion.

could recoup some money from the wheels too

I'd rather pedal the wheels off a 2.5 though!

Al,

Any chance you could do a safari version -> lifted with knobby tyres?  Maybe a spare tyre sitting on the boot.

Shhhhh........ rrrallyboxsterrrrr

The only limit is your imagination

But in hindsight the original 93 concept car was actually cooler than the production car.  Very RSK.

Really, a stripped out lightweight boxster is the modern version of that.  It should be uber cool...but worth peanuts because they are snuffed at by the purists!

What better reason to build one I say!

Have a chat to the specialists and main dealers for cheap trade ins, that's where NineAuto's courtesy Boxster came from. From memory I think Stu told me it had a blown head gasket so the dealer just wanted $1500 for it. He fixed it up, hey presto cheap runner, for a 2.5 it's quite a giggle. Barely a panel on it without a scuff, dent or scratch but being silver you can't see them anyway

I saw that one. That would be a good car to strip out and flog the hell out of.

Yes, how slow are they?

986 2.5 is quoted at 150kw, 1250kg kerb weight ~ 160hp/tonne, 6.9s to 100

987 3.2S is quoted at 206kw, 1420kg kerb weight ~ 200hp/tonne, 5.5s to 100

in theory if you could junk 200kg from a 986 (a pretty big IF I suspect), you'd achieve similar power to weight and performance to a 987S.  but by the time you sort IMS, brakes and anything else that needs fixing at Porsche prices, plus seats and labour etc, you'd be pushing 20k ish I reckon and you'd have a car worth 10k.

OR you could buy someone else's money pit, maybe a 13 second quarter mile MX5 for lightweight, roof down fun for $10k https://www.carsales.com.au/private/details/Mazda-MX-5-1990/SSE-AD-3643091

Get one of those fake sound generators to pipe a flat 6 wail into the cabin ?.
