Hi All,

Been lurking a long time, i believe i'm ready to scratch that p car itch, so thought i'd ask here as well.

Has anyone got any thoughts for this car, seems fairly well priced for a my02.

I assume those headlight stickers will come off as well right?

Yes, the headlight stickers will come off. It's priced ok, kms are on the med-high side. Get a PPI (pre-purchase inspection) done.

Also budget for new motor mounts as the exhaust tips hang low (usually a sign of worn mounts) and an IMS replacement if you're not a gambler.

For unknown reasons to me, that car has been on the market at a relatively low price for 12-18 months...  I'd want to know why.  My guess is it's not the headlight stickers...

yeh i was semi-eyeing that healey factory 996 as well, but that was a touch expensive for a 3.4 at 54k with 100k kms but looked much cleaner, with the ims done.

But.. it was sold today..

Anyway i've already waited like 4 yrs with hesitation and procrastination, umm'ing and ahh'ing.. whats another few months. and then.. there's also the possibility of getting an old SC for around the 55k mark too.. This one is also ideal, but out of my budget.

Maybe i missed the 996 Man C2 boat as well :)

I would be looking at a 997 personally at that price point.

You'd need to come up with an extra 10-20 on top of that asking price to get into a 997 manual C2 coupe (according to carsales) and you'd still have potential IMS issues at that end of the scale...

It will be my main driver, but generally bike to work, so i'd say mainly weekender.

If you're not in any rush, then wait for the car you really want.

I have to lean with @99TS3 for that sort of coin($70K), me, I would definitely look at a 997 S. Even if it is auto!!

The extra 10 - 20K you will get back when you sell it.

I was tossing up a 996 Cab but at the current price differential the 997 represents better value and you get a newer car.

When we use the very top of the 996 market then yes I agree, I would choose a 997 over a 996. However at the other end of the 996 scale IMO you get better value from a 996.

If you're in the 997 range then you might as well spend the extra 10-20 again and get a 996 turbo.

Yeah max budget for a good car is really 50k- maaaybe 55k, would love to stay around 40's to be honest.

No auto's, no cabs, just my preference, went to an auto family car and have really missed rowing gears!

if i had 70k, it would open a lot of things, and yeah would definitely try for a 997 (although carsales suggests a min of 80k) vs those low kms 996 my02's or even consider something aircooled.

996 vs 997 you gotta be careful not to get sucked in to an apples/oranges comparison.

A top notch low klm perfect history aus del late 996 in the high $60s might well be a far better car than a rough high klm patchy history UK early 997 for low $70's...

You really can't compare the top end of one model to the bottom of the next... The price gap is bigger than you think. The $70K 997 is more like a $40K 996.

Patience, persistance, persuasion and a readyness to pounce might snag you a good one cheap though!

I gotta say I'm a fan of the Dark Green 996.1 - looks to have been looked after very well, plus aerokit, GT3 wheels, looks to have M030 suspension based on the ride height and many of these early 3.4's have LSD also.  Dual row IMS, non-scoring cylinders... would be very interesting to see it in person.  Has been for sale for a while, so seller could be kicked down a bit...

Going out on a limb... this could be the last sub-$40k 911 C2 Manual coupe sold in Australia (I hope not)

155.000. However the car feels tighter than a latex glove on a fat mans hand.

nice work, i'd be happy with that. specially for that price.

Yeah want a car that i can drive, and not stress about "investment". and defo a 996 should be more liveable with.

But even these old SC's, even targa's.. i'm very tempted, this got cheaper this morning..

https://www.carsales.com.au/private/details/Porsche-911-1980/SSE-AD-3883653/?Cr=6 (not really the right thread for it tho)

About that green one. Unfortunately i can't handle that interior. and my wife would defo say no. I once showed her an old ferrari interior, and she goes, wtf is with the baby poo/curry interior?  and my own opinion/preference, while its a really nice looking factory bodykit,  i think it only belongs on a real gt3. (and i like the pop up wing)

finally some of those panel gaps seem a little suspect, like the rear and front bumper, look a little loose.

Actually its an "AeroKit" and was a factory option for the 996 MK1 and MK2. I'm a massive aerokit fan but then again im biased! Agree with the interior colour, nothing beats black IMO.

Agree..  And I really don't like the 'draped leather' on the seats..  Much prefer the other style of upholstery.

And white dials - has to have white dials.!
