UK owner of Australian supplied 911 Targa

Hi,

I have a 911 Targa that used to live in Australia and was wondering if any forum members may assist me in getting photographs of it over there? It had New South Wales registration AAM 13A with NSW RTA sticker from 1999 in the screen. Built silver and painted white early in its life over there I think. I have written to a couple of old addresses in the receipts file but no luck so far and I have also contacted the Porsche Club NSW as it has one of their stickers in the screen as well.

I used to live in Balmain and really would love to have photos of my car when it lived there. It was brought to the UK in 1999 but no luck with that owner as he has moved to Spain. Car was owned by Rolf Kruckleyberg of Point Piper and Mr Buckley from Clontarf.

VIN 9117311704.

Best

Keith

Also mine has lost its original engine and has 93010020300X fitted, do you know what the X means? I have an Australian receipt with the number on it. I wonder where engine number 6373478 is now?? Keith

I thought I had your original engine there for a second. I have a Carrera 3.0 engine from a targa sportomatic. #6679076

Good luck with your engine search. That engine number seems quite long. Is that what is stamped to the right of the fan on the crankcase?

Nearly!

Thanks Al, just realised that the long number is probably a part number for the old invoice. Engine number is 6380298 which I think is an SC engine, my Porsche Red Book is at work so can't check it.

Do many Aus releases make it to the UK? Is it popular or desirable for buyers to track down Aus ones to avoid/minimise the hassle of rust?

Your current engine 6380298 looks to be from a 911SC Coupe or Targa produced from August 1977 to July 1978. I have the red book here.

Not sure if they do but I was lucky as sold my 1966 912 to get into a late 70's 911 and really wanted a Targa. A solid Australian car was a bonus as no rust.

I see a lot of South African imports but not so much Australian ones as the exchange rate is or has been prohibitive.

I know of a number of AU delivered Mercs making their way there being the more sort after 300sel 6.3, 600's, 280se coupes/cabs and 280sl pagodas as they are lower production runs particularly in RHD and now becoming a global market especially from dryer non salt environments.  Exchange rate AUD to sterling dosnt help us either as I've been sourcing some of the above AU delivered for a collector friend and it's getting tougher as the prices have shifted up due to a uk buyer is not haggling in price for the right car, makes it hard for us to keep them here.

im sure it will also happen on the more desirable Porsche classics as well, if not already.

brits don't seem to be as fussy about the whole UK delivered matching numbers thing.

Matching numbers is a big thing here now and creeping into all marques, my businesses below. Had a call from Australia yesterday asking for a good Volvo P1800 to ship over there.

I lived in Sydney for about 10 years and I wish I had bought all the 240Z and 260Z I saw there!

The Z car price explosion is not just a UK thing. I bought my 240Z late last year and paid more for it than I did for my 911 12 months earlier.... (both basket cases by the way).
