991.2 GT3 Press Release

I know Aussie Tax, cost of living blah blah.. but I still cry inside when I see those MSRPs versus Australia MSRP.

Assuming you could import it:

Car - $191,466.00 (converting USD @ 0.75)

Duty -$9573.00

GST -$20,103.00

LCT - $47,103.00

Total - $268,245.00 + ORC

That is loose numbers, not including shipping, but you'd imagine thats built into the USD costs somewhere to a certain degree!

According to the redbook the base cost on the MY15/16 in Australia was $293,200 + on roads.

I don't think us as Australian consumers leave as much on the table for Porsche Cars Australia as some would suggest, especially considering the higher costs of running a business in AUS.

Definitely the ATO gets their pound of flesh, but what we pay, its laughable compared to what they would pay in Asia.

Carbon rear wing is interesting. I wonder if it will be different to the one on the 991.1

500 hp 4L manual. 911 R owners would be crying

500HP 4.0L + 6 Speed... so this will be interesting to watch the used market.

Its going to be $350k+ here based on those numbers.

2016 GT3 RS was US$175k.

2016 GT3 was US$130k.

With delivery its effectively 11.5% increase. I'm not surprised given demand running hot both here and the US.

I thought the same thing till I saw the pricing. It still leaves room for 997.2s to sit around $250k ($275k-$300k list). Heaven help the 991.1 though. Here comes the free fall.

I will gladly add a 991 PDK if they bottom out like 996/7 in years to come! :D we can remain hopeful right?

What about the dealer delivery! I just bought a Macan and the invoice had the 911 dealer delivery on it and it was over 8k. 7k saving right there compared to US prices.

That depends dealer to dealer from memory, but its $6-8k in most dealers down here in Syd even on Macan.

But that US price already has taxes, duties and fees in it...... we still get robbed here!

Just spoke with my local dealer. They were unaware of the press release.

Sick of waiting for my 997.2 unicorn. When the forms show up I'll be number 9 at my local dealer (fingers crossed I get an allocation).

That's the way to buy a new, and in demand GT3! :D

One of the dealers in Sydney has the lions share of deposits - try other dealers with less deposits. Just so happens my local one has the least. Not helpful for all the states with one dealer I spose.

Interesting tech chat with Andreas Preuninger.

For example the use of mechanical valve lifters that don't need to adjusted over the 300,000km life of the engine left me slack jawed.

Yes, I want one for that reason and much more.

A 500 hp 9000 rpm motor that never needs a valve adjustment for 300k.That sounds to me like there is therefore no way to adjust the valves at all. No thanks.

He said they still use a finger follower so I would think there is some sort of adjustment available on the pivot point pillar.  My first reaction is that they must run huge clearances like Ducati did last decade to avoid frequent clearance checks but suspect Porsche is a bit more sophisticated than that.

there is no way there couldn't be any adjustment in the mechanism as it is to susceptible to tolerance stack from each component.

Interest stuff ...... for at least two of us on the forum!

BMW  K 1200`s had no shims,as they " didn`t need valve adjustments",however if by some miracle the valves did need adjusting you could buy different followers at great expense. My concern would be that out of warranty a burnt valve from dodgy fuel, or any number of reasons could mean a new head as they may not be serviceable. Only time will tell.

I volunteer as guinea pig!

In seriousness hopefully they make as many of these as possible and Australia gets a huge allocation. I'm fine with driving prices down on used GT cars. The reality is that even if by some crazy fluke we got a monster allocation (say 300+ cars) it still won't meet demand now and in the future.
