GUT

I have a R32 VSpec 2 fresh outta the paint shop , In Sydney for ya

I have an Etype in Melbourne for ya

I have a friend of a friend with an Aston in QLD ..but you need a few more bucks than the red beast , not much but a little

As for the first two you would just need to make a decision when your picking either up?

Then I can go buy the Aston

Or make a decision which car im looking for

I just bought a mustang to temporarily fill the void left by my GT3 :Speechless:. If considering non Porsche options might I suggest an S2 Lotus Exige cup 240/260/S. Very fun car for the money

Love it.

I had a look at the s1 Elise sport 190 at the HF.

Lotus is high on the list but I have a leaning toward classics.

1928 RR Phantom 1

1975 RR Corniche DHC

1960 Bentley Continental

1998 Bentley Azure

2007 Bentley Continental GT

some nice options there. I've dreamt about having a an RR or Bentley. Scared of what might go wrong. I'm probably past my use by date for selling my body to pay the bill

Etypes - really need to be RED

R32- $Not for public consumption ..but seriously talk to me before I invest more cash into it ..just having full respray.. and run through.. original no mods.

Aston -  number has 1 but less than 2 in front and a couple of zeros -

Lotus - yeah better take your chequebook most places , maybe 2/3 of the cost for rebuilds over a A/C pcar but probably 2-3 times more frequent

Ask Symsy, I'm sure he knows a specialist backyard mechanic who would accept you for who or what you are.

No but seriously, they're not as expensive as you think. They are very well built and if driven regularly, seldom breakdown. As usual, they attract tax just like Porsche.

I'd think carefully about straying from reliability. You're not a spanner swinger so you don't have the temperament for tinkering, and being caught on the road side or not wanting to use it because you don't trust it isn't good for happiness. Once you lose trust you'll never enjoy ownership.

Boxster Spyder or get a Cayman and mod it. Fat wheels, trick suspension, right stance, hot sounding exhaust would be a brilliant drivers car with all mod cons to boot.

Most of the suggested cars in this thread are better off being owned by someone else, which is why others are suggesting them.

I've chased @Ozvino's spyder through the hills - impressive car. It's a bit over my desired budget though. A Cayman of some description is an option.

I take your point on reliability which is one part of why I lean towards Porsche. I like old stuff too.

I like the tarmac rally SC for sale on the forum. That looks a good buy for someone. Maybe me. But it's red. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

There was a nice black 968CS on track at Sandown yesterday but I was surprised how sloooow  it was.  At the old price of $45k, maybe but $90-$100k for one of those is silly.  Buy the pick of the RX7s instead for a third of the price.

I'd advise against a clubman/caterham/Westfield/elfin.  I owned a Westfield for a couple of years.  Very fast, pure driving experience, great on road and track BUT unless you have a death wish, steer clear.  A bit like my GT2 epiphany, I'd enjoyed fast road driving and survived but the stakes are very high and I value life and my licence.

a mate of mine is preparing an elfin 4AG 5 speed for sale.  He's a mechanical engineer and built the car but it's not being used.  If you ignore my advice, I can give you his details!

@Philbee Who wouldn't love to have a Cobra? I've always wanted one. My sprite is like a miniature version of one. I just don't think I'd get the use out of one though. And I struggle with how to value them.

@DJM totally sound advice. I think I've rule a clubman out for usability reasons. That RX7 looks the goods. The price range appeals too.

might be out of the price bracket but i'd have this in a heartbeat

i'd rule out the E9 unless you just want a cruiser, low and slow.

240z i'd also be wary of, i'm offloading mine later this year as it's just a nothing car. doesn't do anything particularly well just looks good, is slow, poorly built and nothing aftermarket fits, and has a smelly cabin. once you've been spoilt by pelican parts and the 911 community making easy to fit solutions to any problem or modification, a 240z is a collection of swear words. i barely find a reason to drive it these days. i think you'd really, really have to want one to put up with it (or spend a metric butt ton of money on mods).

caterham/lotus 7 is an absolute blast to drive but as you've stated it's the definition of impractical. telepathic to drive though.

alfa 105 likewise a joy to drive but getting any power of that ancient twincam designed head can be a costly exercise. may i suggest a ford escort with a modern engine in it instead? same kind of era, reasonably similar in feel but appears to be so many more options for engines, with people using more modern ford stuff, more scope for gearboxes, modifications.

i like the R32/Rx7 ideas. i have a 1985 rx7 and it will likely replace the 240z. just a much more interesting, better thought out car. very quirky to run but i'm enjoying learning about it.

similar era to the R32, i'd suggest an E36 M3. excellent all rounder, fantastic engine, all weather car. if i want to drive a straight six, rwd couple i don't even look at the 240z anymore and head straight to the bmw. e46 if you have more money but E46 is a softer looking, heavier car. In the same vein, E39 M5 would be an absolute blast. would also give some consideration to a current M2 second hand if budget allows. worth a test drive anyway :D

i'd also suggest a bmw 2002 but it may need some mods to keep up with 911's on a mountain run. i'm building a second now for this reason, the stock one is a fun little car though.

Sadly, in a moment of weakness I let my Carrera go to a new loving home. It is a very traumatic experience for me.

So, to help me get over it, what should I replace this beautiful and fun car with?

DSC_0742_zps3yinp72a.jpg

Yes, I know the answer is a GT3 but unless the market has crashed, I'm thinking something substantially lower priced.

The last time I got itchy feet, I ended up with a 928 GTS and I couldn't be happier with it.

This time, what shall it be? And dare I say it, it needn't necessarily be a Porsche - but preferably will be.

Unless i missed it whats your budget?

I have an R32 GTR and there is a lot to like but let's just say I never drive it in preference to any of my Porsches. I had an E36 M3 and IMHO they're yuk. Bad plastics, bad seats, the engine wasn't that great, never got the clutch and gearbox feeling right no matter how much money was spent. I wanted to like it, really wanted to, but never could. Don't do it.

Dont but another car and invest the money in a driving holiday? Or see my previous suggestions.

When it all boils down you already have the best so tread carefully not to spend good money to move backwards.

Classic car prices are high and if they come down and you're in another marque IMHO it'll hurt more.

Sell the 930 and grab a GT3 is another suggestion. Then you have AC and WC and a pair of very nice fast cars capable of most driving you'd ever want to do.
