Straight into the deep end...after eating

Recommended Posts

Hello all!

Firstly I'd just like to say thank you for having me and I look forward to the learning and headaches I've just signed up for! Any help and feedback will always be greatly appreciated.

Now for the fun bit - I've just brought a 1974 911 S Targa from my uncle who had it for 20 years, although hasn't driven it for 10. It was always the 'cool car you went in growing up' so when he called and said he wanted to sell it I jumped straight in.

Now the downside. It hasn't ran for 10 odd years as the 2.7 went bang and was sent to be fixed where it disappeared with the workshop who had it. So she hasn't ran for a wile and is missing an engine which I think is a bit of a blessing (3.0) if I can make it work. Needless to say a lot of work to do!

As for me I started out restoring 60s & 70s Alfa Romeos as a mechanic before I progressed to selling cars. So I have a good amount of mechanical knowledge but limited Porsche knowledge or network to help me get there, hence why I've joined.

Ive taken some basic pictures but will upload some as I progress. Thanks gents and I look forward into running into some WA members once she is up and running.

Welcome aboard.

One thing i learned fast when I got my 911 SC was don't be scared to do stuff.  Yes it's a Porsche. But it's just a body with engine, gearbox suspension & steering, just like an Alfa.  Except way cooler.  What's the name of that colour?

I think it is @privatepang on here who is selling a 2.7S engine, which could be something to look at.

thanks for the tip MFX - a local specialist Swan Porsche Parts has offered a fully rebuilt 2.7 engine for $8-10k which looks like great value, however I'll try to get my hands on a 3.0 if anyone has one laying around???

Welcome! Love it, especially those wheels! Borbets my fav

Thankyou for that!! I was honestly going to try and find more period correct 70s rims as I didn't think the sharp/square design worked on the 911. Maybe I need to do more thinking?

I have no idea about the colour name or code. I know it was originally a brown/orangey colour but I don't think they are at a collector status where you would worry about painting it a colour you don't like.

If I am ever in a position to buy an IB car, Borbets would be my wheel of choice!

Well,  a glorified Veedub ;)

It's not a 928 though. But even they aren't the nightmares some claim them to be.
