Pork Chops Posted 6April, 2017 Report Share Posted 6April, 2017 What's recommended? I've got a cool powdercoat option, stuff which is a thick durable paint you can tint called Raptor. Then there is wrinkle paint (Hammertone or VHT). It needs to be durable and have a matt and textured finish. Also I have seen some cages that have a stick on finish where the shoulder harnesses wrap around the bar that protect the paint from wear. And as a thread is not a thread without photos here is the rear half of the cage just after being drag out of a shed. Timm Posted 6April, 2017 Report Share Posted 6April, 2017 The VHT wrinkle paint would look nice, but it requires baking to cure properly and achieve proper wear resistance.
Pork Chops Posted 6April, 2017 Author Report Share Posted 6April, 2017 The VHT wrinkle paint would look nice, but it requires baking to cure properly and achieve proper wear resistance.Could hand it over to the powdercoater to put in their oven.Does anyone know what the black 'tape' is called in the below image? I've googled every term I can think of and can't find the product. Ignore the red circles.Bamboo anyone?
edgy Posted 6April, 2017 Report Share Posted 6April, 2017 The black tape I believe is called a grip tape, a lot like what is stuck on a skateboard deck. ( http://www.skatewarehouse.com/Black_Magic_Ablack5_Griptape/descpage-BMA5GT.html )For the paint, whichever way you go (paint of powder coat) the most important factor for a durable finish is surface prep on the bare metal, you need an etch treatment to ensure good adhesion. Most automotive paint primers have an etch prime built into them, I'm not familiar with the powder coat etch process, but they will naturally have one too. Matt/Gloss/satin is easily achieved in either process, matt to satin about right I'd say, although I'd steer toward matt should any section protrude into the forward cabin for lower glare factor. Pork Chops Posted 6April, 2017 Author Report Share Posted 6April, 2017 http://www.skatewarehouse.com/Black_Magic_Griptape/catpage-GTBKMAGIC.htmlYour link doesn't work for me so maybe this one does? All the other stuff I'm across.I've written to the fabricator who made the cage above for Sharkwerks to see what they used. Hopefully they answer. P-Kay Posted 6April, 2017 Report Share Posted 6April, 2017 Personally, I would go the carbon as the grip tape is essentially like sandpaper and I am not confident of belt longevity/safety.
