Thanks to the Veterans amongst us

Recommended Posts

I know of a few veterans amongst us and I am sure there are others who I don't know. But I just want to say thanks to you for your service. We live a very fortunate life and it's due to people like you who have stepped up and made sacrifices to protect our way of life. I travel a lot for work to many different places in the world and kiss the ground every time I get home.  I am sure I speak for all when I say thank you and wish you all the very best of wishes on this day when we remember those that have served to protect our wonderful country.

Lest we forget.

While attending the Melbourne ANZAC march in support of my proud Vietnam vet. father-in-law, I got to thinking about the grief of family affected by war.  This was brought into sharp focus by a single photo carried in the march.  It was a mother surrounded by a group of young men in uniform, the caption read, "Mother and seven sons, 3 came home"

Let's not forget those who have to pick up the pieces after the conflicts have stopped.

Went down to Sydney today to catch the march - heightened security be damned.

WW2 vets are getting very thin on the ground. Go down and see them next year if you get the chance.

To the veterans and current ADF servicemen and women: thank you for your service.

I was pleasantly surprised today at the number of people that turned up to the service we have in our local community.

There are a couple of old fellows left still but it won't be long and these hardy souls will be gone forever, I  am glad so many more people are commemorating this sacred day and remembering all the effort that all the services have put in for every campaign Australia has been involved in.

Similar situation at Melbourne's march.  There were only one or two elderly veterans representing each unit, with the numbers being made up by descendants honouring those no longer with us.  These old fellas were once young and strong just like the new veterans from recent conflicts such as Iraq and Afghanistan. These young men and women deserve the same acknowledgement afforded to every one who has gone before them.
