Top 6 Porsches You Can Stil Afford

Recommended Posts

A short article from Wheels magazine about the 'other' Porsches.

I have also detected the niche following referenced in the article for the 924 turbo. Needs to be a niche group as there aren't many around and only a true enthusiast would purchase one as parts can be tricky to source at times.

I always find it interesting that these listicle articles cannot find nice things to say.  Each model has to be dissed - timing belts on 928s, lack of power with Boxster etcetera.  A useful article would find owners and ask them what they liked about the car.

I know they are weird looking, but I strongly suggest driving a 914... so much fun to drive, and own. Easy to work on should the need arise... Basically, a vintage boxster! And now that the new Boxster has a 4 cylinder too, I imagine values of the original 914 will only go up... (i hope)

Have you also bought another 914 Mike? :) I have, this will be the third one I have owned!

Yep!

Sold a '73 silver model and bought a '76 yellow model about 8 weeks ago- this will be the basis of my GT Clone build for which I have commenced amassing the required parts! :)

Cheers

Craig

Agree, many people will see an article like this and think that it is all true.... lots of cars have timing belts that will destroy the engine if not maintained..... having now done a lot of work on my own 928, compared to todays cars the 928 is not that complex....

The continuing falsety that all 928s (in fact any car from Europe in the 80's) is way down on power (due to our fuel quality....), most times it is limited to a year or two, but don't let the facts get in the way of a good story.. :) (yes it annoys me greatly!!)

Even the reference to the Boxster getting embarrassed by hot hatches in lower form - around when it was launched the fastest hot Hatches where what, the Saxo GTS, golf gti, escort rs2000, gti-6, and the fastest probably being the GtiR?

they’d hold their own but surely embarrassed is a stretch
