Cayman RS spied

I am a little skeptical at the moment about the GT4 RS but can see both sides of this argument and am certainly open to other views on the subject ,,,from my understanding the old chassis that allowed for the fitment of a flat 6 is no longer being made and the chassis for the current generation of 718,s was  designed for the fitment of the turbo flat 4 and will not allow for the longer flat 6 engine ....?

There is a lot of heated debate about this on the rennlist and both sides of the debate have a strong argument regarding the GT4 rs going ahead  ,,,,,but on a positive knot ,,,, we have seen in the past Porsche is very good at producing limited production specials ,,,,Eg the 2016 911 r that we have all seen change hands fro crazy money in the recent months ,,,,,Porsche is surely aware that a car of this claimed spec will be in high demand ..

This could be something they have put into their planning ,due to the success  of the 911 R ,,they would certainly sell them in this current climate for hard core GT cars produced by Porsche ,,,,will be interesting to see if it happens or not and it would no doubt be an astonishing car if released ...

with all the GT4's coming on the market, I think a lot are worried what an RS version will do to the price.

Me, I hope one does come. Might see more realistic pricing on current GT4's

As much as I wish the top report was real - I have a deposit in for a GT4 RS already - those pics are in fact test pics of the ORIGINAL GT4 taken back in mid 2015 when they were doing tests for the Club Sport race car.

Lots of water to go under the bridge yet in regards to another Cayman GT car IMO. The fact they decided to put the 6MT into the 991.2 GT3 for me makes the requirement of another GT4 at this stage a bigger question mark. The lack of a 6MT in the 991.1 GT3 was the key reason for the GT4's success. So I think the ONLY way it will make sense to build another at this stage is if they decide to do an uber 4cyl turbo version to differentiate it - but not sure they will then called it a GT4 in that case.

AP has already said they are only going to use the engine from the Cup Car (that's found in the new 991.2 GT3) in all GT cars going forwards, so I just don't see them currently putting one of those engines into a Cayman as it will tread on the GT3 toes too much.

Either way - since those pics were not new I think it will be a LONG time before we see anything new on the GT4 front. I'm keeping mine regardless - such a ripper car.

I noticed it was the 981 chassis and was confused. #fakenews. Thanks for sharing.

Good info there snowman  I honestly don't see it happening with that claimed 4.0 spec either it just dosnt make sense from any marketing and sales point of view porsche would  be shooting them selves in the foot with new GT3 sales if they offered this .

I agree 100%.

The original 4.0L GT4 RS rumor came out before the series 2 GT3 was committed to offering a 6MT. I just don't see there being a big market for both cars at this time.

For my mind it was going to be either one of the other. That all being said - the current gen GT4 race car (So technically the Cayman GT4 CS MR) is a bit shit compared to it's competition. Especially with the new R8 GT4, AMG GT4 and M4 GT4's all coming in the next 12 months. If Porsche have a main reason for doing a new GT4 road car in the next 24 months it will be based upon a foreseen need to be more competitive in this market. The Cayman is one of the few GT4 spec race cars that they are currently trying to make faster than the road going variant. All the others are being de-tuned to meet FIA BOP - which is a much better way to make a competitive package than trying to add extra performance.

The GT4 race car market is growing rapidly - basically GT3 was the ultimate Gentlemans racer series but it has become full pro now so there has been a big interest spike in GT4. Of all the current gen GT4 cars the Cayman is one of the oldest already so as I said I think if there is a new one it will be based upon this requirement. Although they very well may just do what the likes of Audi and Merc are doing and just build a GT4 specific race car without a road going equivalent - and then you might see a one with a 4.0L race motor and PDK that won't step on the toes of the road going GT3's.

Yep!

Anyone selling off one at a low price because they "think" a GT4 RS will devalue them is taking a huge risk. There is equally every chance it will be the last and greatest NA6 Cayman ever made.

Be good to see you out one day Jim. Jono and I have entered the PCV event at Broadford in June. Have been there already once in the GT4 - it's mega well suited to our little cars. Heaps of fun.
