privatepang Posted 12May, 2017 Report Share Posted 12May, 2017 Hey guys, My paint guy has asked if i want to do a high flow coat after the car is painted? Did a quick google search and i assume it's just additional clear which is applied to get a glass like finish. Wonder what people's thoughts are?Currently, car will have 2 coats of clear so i assumed it would be enough but just wanted to confirm.
neill Posted 12May, 2017 Report Share Posted 12May, 2017 The finish is much nicer if you decide to go for it.While it's getting painted may as well get the best finish you can.
Stu Posted 12May, 2017 Report Share Posted 12May, 2017 I thought about this but did not do it, wish I did... can you add it a few months after painting? Or does it not work that way?
neill Posted 13May, 2017 Report Share Posted 13May, 2017 You could, but it means stripping it all down for paint again. A good sand and polish is probably a better way of going.
MFX Posted 13May, 2017 Report Share Posted 13May, 2017 I flow coated my car. Basically when you paint the car, you generally paint around 3 layers of colour and 2 to 3 layers of clear. All of these layers compound the orange peel, and any specks of dust, etc, in the paint. The flow coat is basically, after you have finished painting all of those layers, you then sand the whole car back nice and flat, with something like 1000 grit. You then put another couple of nice flat coats of clear over the top. This is the best way to get the glossiest finish off the gun.
