bear924 Posted 14May, 2017 Report Share Posted 14May, 2017 Hello all,Due to suffering from withdrawals following the PFA Tasmania tour, I have decided to load up the Porsche and go driving again. My plan is to drive Brisbane to the Gosford car museum staying off the highways as much as possible. Playing with google maps suggests this will take about 14 hours. Rough itinerary:- Depart South Brisbane early (7.30 ish) on Friday the 30th of June- Drive via Urbenville, Mallanganee to Grafton for lunch (about 5 hours driving)- Drive Grafton, Nymboida, Dorrigo to Nambucca Heads for the night (about 3hrs driving)- Drive Nambucca Heads, Eungai Creek, Clybucca, Kempsey, Kew, Batar Creek, Lansdowne to Taree for Lunch.(about 3 hours driving)- Drive Taree, Burrell Creek, Bunyah, Markwell, Crawford River, Booral, Clarence Town, Cessnock. Laguna to Gosford.- Sunday Morning - Visit Gosford Car Museum. Have lunch.- Drive Gosford, Gloucester to Tamworth. Stop for Sunday and Monday nights (about 4 hours driving)- Drive Tamworth, Glen Innes to Grafton. Stop for lunch. (4.5 hours driving)- Drive Grafton, Casio, Beaudesert to Brisbane (4 hours driving) Arrive back in Brisbane on Tuesday the 4th of July. This route is not set in stone however I can't move the dates too much (could possible leave on the 29th so that we arrive back on the Sunday night??) The museum is not open Monday or Tuesday so I don't think leaving on the Saturday will be possible. So this averages about 8 hours driving per day. Add an hour for lunch and breaks as appropriate, I imagine about 10 hours point to point. The plan is to stay and eat at interesting places where possible, I'll look at details if anyone expresses an interesting in spinning some Porsche wheels with me. My wife is joining me so partners etc are more than welcome. If you are interested in joining (or can see a issue with my proposed route) please reply to this topic. If I get some interest I'll post more detailed information. Happy to answer IMs if you'd prefer as well.
Peter M Posted 14May, 2017 Report Share Posted 14May, 2017 Aren't you missing the Oxley, the Putty and Wotton Way in your travels?
Dreamr Posted 14May, 2017 Report Share Posted 14May, 2017 You should also consider staying in Gosford and going for a drive with some of the locals .... I live 5 minutes from the museum and enjoy going for drives through our lovely twisties .....It shouldn't be too hard getting a few of us together to show you around a bit ... bear924 Posted 14May, 2017 Author Report Share Posted 14May, 2017 Peter M - Sounds like I am missing something. As I have no geographical knowledge... well ... no knowledge of the area... are you able to explain where these drives are? I'm super keen to add any good roads into the mix.Dreamr - I hadn't considered that I must admit, however agree it sounds the goods! I'm also not sure how long to devote to the museum ... I'm certainly open to suggestions for the Gosford day. If there is good driving around Gosford, I/we could go up the highway on the way back and save a few hours. ... or I can add a day. It's like being a kid in a candy store.Anyone is of course welcome to join at any spot along the way... my only aim is to do some great driving and hopefully meet some other enthusiasts while I'm going. Dreamr Posted 14May, 2017 Report Share Posted 14May, 2017 I think it really depends on how much you intend to study the cars inside ....There is no information sheets explaining what they are and you can't walk around them .... so essentially you are admiring them from the front or the side.Worth going to see the variety of cars inside, but you won't spend more than a couple of hours doing so ..... I'd say 3 hours tops ...
TINGY Posted 14May, 2017 Report Share Posted 14May, 2017 Pretty sure Batar Ck is dirt mate so is Bunyah and parts of Markwell, these are out unless you intend to do some off road rallyingBear, maybe Taree to Krambach via Burrell Ck, from Krambach to Nabiac and then through Coloongolook, if the Salty Dog is open i strongly suggest a meal here. Just out of Coloongolook, look for the Wootton Way on your right, take this road you won't be disappointed, oh, and stay off that green looking stuff on the road.I strongly suggest just go from Taree to Gloucester on the Buckets Way then the Newcastle crowd can meet you somewhere and take you on some other great roads, Peter M was only saying a couple of days ago how he would like to organize another drive
bear924 Posted 14May, 2017 Author Report Share Posted 14May, 2017 That's good to know... don't really get why they don't have information sheets. If that only takes ~3 hours to do the car collection, there should definitely be time to see the other sites around Gosford. Please suggest away! Also.. any lunch or accommodation suggestions most welcome.

I was hoping someone would point out any dud (or dirt) roads that I suggested. I'll incorporate your ideas... perhaps I'll do a google map and attach it to this thread.. make it more visual. It would be great to meet up with any locals along the trip. My plans are very flexible so if you can see a way to incorporate something in your area please let me know. It would be great fun to meet up with anyone else affected by this Porschitis.

Agree with Tom 1 hour and no more than 1 1/2 at Bunnings. Maybe we could scoot out through wollombi, broke and putty which would get a few of the Sydney folk interested. Maybe do that first as its always safer and less traffic on an early run then those that wish could head to Bunnings in Gosford for the arvo? WOKA Posted 15May, 2017 Report Share Posted 15May, 2017 Sounds like a good plan.. I like the route to Grafton, I haven't done a lot of that road before.. Pretty sure its all tarmac through Nymboida and up the range..?I'll try and join in as far as Bellingen at least..
bear924 Posted 17May, 2017 Author Report Share Posted 17May, 2017 I'll have a look at the itinerary and see if I can find a fun lunch location before Grafton. The first stint on the first day is a bit long regardless. If anyone has any suggestions I'm all ears!Woka - You are most welcome to join us for as much or little of the trip that suits. I've been using google earth view to check the tarmac on the roads where possible. I'll have a closer look along the Nymboida range and check it's all tarmac. Not super keen to find myself on a dirt road. I suspect I'll drive the 911... the 924 is lots of fun on dirt though.. slides very evenly.
WOKA Posted 17May, 2017 Report Share Posted 17May, 2017 Last I went through Nymboida the road was in very good graded condition. The time before.. FFS - pot hole central.Either or, the run through to Bosterbrick and through Dorrigo is good, and worthwhile. Its been a few years.
bear924 Posted 18May, 2017 Author Report Share Posted 18May, 2017 I've looked over the road that runs us past Nymboida via google satellite. Appears to be a two lane road with a nice number of twists and turns. Now to reconsider the first lunch stop!
WOKA Posted 18May, 2017 Report Share Posted 18May, 2017 Left onto Pringles Road just North of Banyabba, follow it down, through Lawrence and take the ferry across at Ulmarra for a counter lunch. Mix it up a bit perhaps. Back in through South Grafton and through to Nymbodia. The Casino road into Grafton is boring..
bear924 Posted 20May, 2017 Author Report Share Posted 20May, 2017 Woka - I like your thoughts so I've redrafted the first stage to include your suggestions.
