NaFe Posted 20May, 2017 Report Share Posted 20May, 2017 I've recently discovered that I'm missing a lower rocker cover stud. I have bought a new one to fit but was wondering whether I should loctite it place. I was hoping to find the answer in the How to Rebuild and Modify Porsche 911 book but it simply shows the them already fitted. Not sure whether the just tighten the stud or whether I should use smke type of loctite. If not any ideas of the torque? Nathan
Peter M Posted 21May, 2017 Report Share Posted 21May, 2017 Nathan,Ideally with the cover off, check the stud hole is clean, tighten two suitable nuts together on the outer end of the stud using two spanners, apply suitable Loctite to the other end and screw in and tighten to "gently snug". Release the nuts and reinstall the cover.

Peter M Posted 22May, 2017 Report Share Posted 22May, 2017 Whatever is in your toolbox already will do but if you have to buy new, being a stud and high temp, buy the high strength one who's number escapes me ATM!
Stew F Posted 22May, 2017 Report Share Posted 22May, 2017 Loctite 270. Ideally, clean all threads with loctite cleaner / degreaser, but wax 7 grease remover is OK. You can also give it a good clean with Loctite Primer N, which is also an activator & bond enhancer, but don't inhale this stuff. It'll make you gag for a month. NaFe Posted 22May, 2017 Author Report Share Posted 22May, 2017 That's great, thanks bothLooking at Loctite's website, 263 now replaces 270 and 271. As I don't have any, now seems as good a time as any Thanks again
