Hi guys have just taken delivery of my new 930 thought I'd start a new thread to try and get some advise and info on  this beast..

I'm confused were she was imported.

Orignal LHD or RHD.

Gearbox has RUF gear set and has RUF housing standard H pattern for 2-4 but 1st is over to the left and down and up for reverse..

Definitely imported. Last of the Aussie delivered 930's ended in 85. Everything after that was imported.

Best way of identifying a conversion is to look at the smugglers box in the front trunk. Usually this is not modified. There's a significant size difference between Lhd and Rhd. Google some pics to see the difference.

89's were the last of the 930's and ran a 5 speed gearbox. Is yours a 5speed?

Car sounds terrifying!
Not understanding your first 85-89 point ; also I presume your dad has a carrera not an SC? They stopped making SCs in 1984.

You should be able to contact Porsche Australia with the VIN and they will give you a letter stating original place of delivery and options, etc. I don't know if being RUF complicates that process, but try contacting harry.aspiotis@porsche.com.au and see if he can get you any info....

What leads you to think it is a Ruf?  Does it have a Porsche vin or a Ruf vin?  The bodywork and wheels aren't typical Ruf

Ruf did sell a 5 speed gearbox conversion kit back in the day. It was used to convert a stock 930 to 5 speed with a dog leg first (left and down) like an early 901 gearbox.

What are the engine specs? - 500 at the wheels is a pretty big number for a 930.

Looks awesome.

The VIN is a Europe/ROW and it's a 1988 model, so originally 4 speed. It's about 450 cars earlier than mine. Check the build date again.

Thanks heaps guys for the info the RUF is just the gear set and box upgrade and Rear guards. It's build date says 12/1988 so I assumed it was a 5spd but Obrut is the second to concur RUF upgrade to the 4spd box.. I have dyno papers 490Hp @wheels and it suppose to have higher boost settings for even more it's defintly very very qik

Hi GUT my build date is 12/1988 was yours a 4spd do you no when they started building the first 5spd. Although mine appears to have the standard H pattern of a 4spd with the RUF upgrade to a 5spd 1-2 is a big slow shift

Looks great, Ruf 5 speed are quite rare and we're expensive. I remember 15K for the box back then. Interested to know what mods have been done. No CIS I bet.

Must be quite a hand full through the twisties and lots of fun.

If you can post the engine number & engine type number, that would help with solving more of the puzzle.

As per the photo below, engine number is found in the green circle & the engine type number is found in the yellow circle.

Mine is an '88 - VIN all the same as yours but the serial number is about 450 later than yours. I don't have the build date, but the delivery date to the first owner was 1/8/88, so build would have been Jun/Jul I'd guess. Mine's also about 30 away from the last of the '88 4-speed 930's.

The Model Year for Porsche changes over in August I believe. Are you sure the build date isn't 12/1987?

That's the case part number - the engine number is on the top of the engine just to the right of the fan

If the chassis number is correct that BlitzKonig posted, Chassis Number is WP0ZZZ93ZJS000172 (did a naughty and checked the rego).

Then this car is a 1988 model year 930 body. The J in the chassis number defines this as a 1988 model year. 1988 model year cars were produced from August 1987 - July 1988.

HOT911, have you had any luck locating the engine number & type number?
