micknine01 Posted 8August, 2017 Report Posted 8August, 2017 Looks like the car that was at CTS for a while
DJM Posted 8August, 2017 Report Posted 8August, 2017 I reckon that belonged to MC from Sydney (from whom I bought the 996 GT2). He ran one of these in PCNSW club events before moving on to a 997 GT3. His has the RS spoilers, Albins gearbox, same cage, was looked after by Autohaus etc - reads like the same car. IF it's the same car, it's done a LOT of track miles but knowing MC it will have been fastidiously maintained and developed. Track history wouldn't bother me but might affect collector interest. He did offer me the car when he sold it a while back but pretty sure it was pretty highly developed for the track so perhaps not great for road driving.of course, I could be completely wrong so I will check and report back.looks shit hot though.

DJM Posted 8August, 2017 Report Posted 8August, 2017 @Fraz I remain in contact with MC so can hook you up if interested in the car.
Fraz Posted 8August, 2017 Report Posted 8August, 2017 Seeing @DJM is out, @Fraz your up! Thanks for the tag, great looking car but not for me.
OBRUT Posted 8August, 2017 Report Posted 8August, 2017 confirmed, same car. very hard core for the road but "great car" and well looked after.I've been on a few early morning drives with that car. I wouldn't describe it as "very hard core" for the road at all - e.g. it wasn't skipping or bouncing on our lovely Sydney roads - the beauty of adjustable suspension. Always spotless too. I think it is a cracker of a car. It is also the only 944/968 I have ever heard with a decent exhaust note.
DJM Posted 9August, 2017 Report Posted 9August, 2017 My mistake, I said very hard core, previous owner confirmed its fairly hard core. ?
Burgerman Posted 10August, 2017 Report Posted 10August, 2017 Nice article on this car in issue 4 of Duck & Whale magazine.
red clubbie Posted 29August, 2017 Report Posted 29August, 2017 Sold for $76000......As an aside, NSW number plate 4, sold for $2,450,000...... . Cheers,Geoff.
Philbee Posted 29August, 2017 Report Posted 29August, 2017 As an aside, NSW number plate 4, sold for $2,450,000...... .W H A T T T T T ????????
OBRUT Posted 29August, 2017 Report Posted 29August, 2017 The number plate auction was something else. At about 1.4 or so the eventual buyer just stuck his hand in the air and left it there...
9er Posted 29August, 2017 Report Posted 29August, 2017 The number plate auction was something else. At about 1.4 or so the eventual buyer just stuck his hand in the air and left it there...Strange... the sellers "man on the spot" kept putting his hand up and down.
Philbee Posted 29August, 2017 Report Posted 29August, 2017 The number plate auction was something else. At about 1.4 or so the eventual buyer just stuck his hand in the air and left it there...the crazy, sorry ludicrous, I mean freaken insanity of it is that there was more than one pea-brain stupidly rich knob out there prepared to spend more than 2 mill on a freaken number plate... A n u m b e r p l a t e ! Maybe one of them was the ex-Aus post guy who just his 11mill golden handshake?
DJM Posted 29August, 2017 Report Posted 29August, 2017 I wonder what the dick swingers would pay to have "1" . Surely "4" tells the world you're only the 4th richest guy in Sydney? that's why it only fetched $2.45M ?

A n u m b e r p l a t e ! Maybe one of them was the ex-Aus post guy who just his 11mill golden handshake?I have to respectfully disagree with your sentiments .....I see it as just anther investment .... a piece of artwork, a house, a collectible car, etc ...I'll bet that no one who bought a run down shack on the beach and paid 1.5 million for it was categorised as a "dick swinger" (post above) .... yet when it was sold for 2.5 million, it was classed as a smart investment .... in fact I'll bet at the time they would have been called "mad" or "you paid waaaay too much" etc .....I see it as the people have 2.5 mill to spend on such things is the same as me having $50k to spend .... all relative to where we are in the game of life ....Just because I don't have 2.5 mill to "blow" on such things, doesn't mean that I don't see the investment .....I hope we can still be friends .....
red clubbie Posted 30August, 2017 Report Posted 30August, 2017 I was at a Shannon's Auction about 8 years ago...I think it was the one at the Motor Show.No 1 was for auction. I can't remember the figure, but it was passed in.The buyers of these plates are buying them purely as an investment. They will never be put on a car.Can you imagine if one plate was stolen off a car and the RMS says no, we won't issue another plate to you, because there is the same plate out there somewhere... Don't be surprised if in 5 years time, it's worth $3 mill. Cheers,Geoff.
OBRUT Posted 30August, 2017 Report Posted 30August, 2017 The buyer also owns 2 - it was on his car (Ferrari) parked at the auction venue.
KGB Posted 30August, 2017 Report Posted 30August, 2017 The buyer also owns 2 - it was on his car (Ferrari) parked at the auction venue. Imparnumerophobic, unless he drove a 355?

I know a couple of guys that buy these plates on a regular basis and I usually attend with one of them. He has around 15 numeric plates he has picked up over the years and displays them on his car collection. In his case he has on the cars an authorised facsimile and the actual plate is in a box at home. It stops the opportunistic scum that take a plate. His view is investment and he likes to have them for each of his 4 wheel investments and usually pays between $60 - $150k for a plate. Which in the scheme of throwing it on a $1m car is not a big issue when you have the scal of wealth of some of these guys. Over the past couple of years their has been a real change in the demographic of buyers of these plates at Shannons in Sydney. Most of the 4-6 digit are going to Chinese or Singaporean buyers and the 3-4 digit to Lebanese with only the pure investors in the 1-3 digit. I did ask him if he was going to have a crack at that plate on Monday however he said no as 4 is the number of death for Chinese.... and number 8 would have been a totally different matter. Imagine how hotly that one would be contested!!

I admit I was a little blown away on the 2.5 mill thing... but yes, ok agree with you, the investment value cant be denied here. The prices on these heritage plates just keeps going up. bromance?
