Hi.  Can you P experts please give me some guidance on what you think fair market value is for this car at the moment in Aust ?

I drove it this morning.  Amazing car.  Meticulous books.  It is a UK import but still appears from everything I have been able to see so far in mint condition with fully accountable service history. I have test driven a few 993's now.  This is by far the best I have driven.

Assuming PPI checks all clear.  No rust etc.  What do you think it's worth ?

thanks in advance.

Well, it's got all the bits that hike the price, it's an S, it's manual, it's got low kays, it's a late model.... Seeing ones without some of these goodies are selling from $100-$150k odd, this seems about right, imo. Think this way....in 2028 what would a 30yo Porsche be worth..? (More cars will be electric or driverless, hav more computer power than a data centre & will voosh  instead of vroom)

Thank you for your responses.  It's very helpful.  Candidly it is ~20k more than I was wanting to spend on my first P but it was such a standout driving experience for me that I feel very tempted to go for it

These are the only other reasonable comparison data points I can find on carsales at the moment.

Any other feedback and guidance is much appreciated.  Cheers.

For what it's worth, buy it!

if you can stretch, have a crack.

Asking 165 .. make a cheeky offer and see how you go.

Can't go wrong with these.

As skids says, if u can stretch and bata a bit, you should go for it. Compared to those 4S ones, this a bargain but depends on what you're after. The "4" is heavier, so driver purists prefer the "2"...

As has been said in other threads, watch for the underbelly rust & leaks on those U.K. Imports... i.e. Get a ppi done on it.

UK cars  are OK. My 09 GT2 is mint and it was delivered there.

Although it spent most of its early years in Knightsbridge in the hands of some South East Asian Sultan so perhaps not representative!

I would squeeze on price, looks like its in good condition

Try , you cant do any harm, markets beyond flacid

I have a low Kms car , I just gave mine its  2Oth Birthday   , and found cam cover gaskets needed doing , gone a bit crispy and small leak and that a few other things belts, sensors, oil filler neck etc, just all showing age, from heat etc. Although most things had been done through out its life.

Also ask  if the A/C evaporator has been changed .. there is 3-5k journey, probably the one.

Also check battery tray and all the switch gear, A/C boost and controller

Age is getting some cars vs the Kms.  The only other saftey issue would be to check the clock ring and ABS sensors or have all that done in a PPI.

I still drive my TT car hard regularly .. and its never minds the jaunt

Other than that .. bullet proof … they look super hot with no tail… If I hadn't got addicted to boost pills,  I would haven one.

PS One of the best bits of arse your gonna find that wont get you a divorce ;)

PPS as for 2 vs 4 , you will get all the power down in 4, even on the damp melb morning runs and not miss much , you can always give it a little tune and exhaust .. @Okrasa Kid has one of the best sounding  cars I have heard in a while.. I think he has put on a Fister exhaust .. nearly wet my pants at the noise.

Umm . U.K. Car not mentioned in ad. What else is there for you to ask.

I don't trust anyone who places a long ad about a Pcar and fails too mention where it's from (seller knows it's important) Also hate the smoke and mirrors regarding how many were Aus delivered, pure misdirection.

If you like it then ask all the correct questions, the seller is very experienced in Pcar sales.

these cars are not moving so make your best offer ($150k) and move on

I know of another UK import , a few more kms but could save ya 40 perhaps :)  How serious are ya or are you fixed on the low Kms car..

My (likely unpopular) 2 cents worth

You do realise you could buy an Aus delivered 996 GT3 for that money........?  Hell, $165k is not far short of a 997 GT3 CS.  Different proposition of course - not halo air cooled  but 10 years newer and surely by any measure a better car.

if you must have air cooled, but a narrow body for ~ $100k.

He bought it with the Fister stage 2 on it. Ask me how  I know ...:D:D:D

I knew you were a man of taste and know I know you have great sonic finesse also :)

The Kid say

According to Porsche Cars Australia 95 Carrera 2S cars were delivered in 1997  of which 8 cars were manuals.

I couldn't find one of these unicorns within my budget, as the Aussie del cars at the time of my search were in the high ones / low twos...........so I converted my Aussie C2S to a manual.

Couldn't  be happier!!!!!!!!!

Gents.  Thanks for all of the posts. Very insightful and informative and many of you picked it.

Yes - that was me who placed a deposit on this car.  And then - the PPI.

It would be poor form I think for me to call out anything on a public forum especially comsidering I thought the seller was a very decent bloke.  Nevertheless I’m back to the drawing board. Very frustrated.

Second PPI in 1 month on cars I was prepared to move on and 2 strikes.  Keeping PCM happy ... at least !

So - it feels to me like when I go for older and original looking for that classic P driving experience I’m opening myself up to pandora’s box with a bunch of potential risks / issues / $$  eg 993’s , SC’s etc

Trade off being go looking for much more recent models ... lower risk of older car = maintenance / $$ issues,  eg. Boxter S 981 or Cayman S

Or - somewhere in between like a 996tt or 997 CS

What do you guys think  Remember this is not going to be my DD car and I’m not going to race / track it.  Weekend drives with mates.  Club events.  Odd trip to Tassie etc

I feel for you mate... Yes frustrating & expensive, those ppi's cost!! Sorry to hear the 993 didn't cut it. You sound confused now, maybe a state of frustration.... Cayman, boxster, 997... You're all over the place! You'll hear stories in all camps how this models has bugs and this model is low maint, etc..there's lemons and unicorns everywhere.. My suggestion, is ignore that and go with what the heart wants. What do you really want sitting in ur garage? All the cars have a diff feel and offering, what do you really want to live with, new and fast, old and classic, roofless, etc...  The risk & $ will then become secondary if you pick a good one, do your research... Come to dakdak this Saturday and kick a few tyres!! That's why we're there!

993s are now at least 20 years old and most will have at least 100,000kms on them.

Everything ages with time. Rubbers dry up, paint picks up scratches and chips and general wear and tear sets in. I would never expect to buy a 993 without been prepared to spend a few $$$ to get things back in order.

Unless there was a major body or engine issue everything else should be somewhat negotiable with the seller.

What sort of issues are the PPIs picking up? Is PCM being overly critical?

Good luck with the hunt.
