MARTY Posted 14October, 2017 Report Posted 14October, 2017 Hi guys I'm sure most people with a 964 might have experienced this problem at some point,How big of a job is it to get the Through bolts done and a rough cost on how much i would need to pay to get it done.My engine has always leaked a bit of oil so its now time to get the problem fixed.
Troubleshooter Posted 15October, 2017 Report Posted 15October, 2017 Had a quote a year back on a 993 during a PPI from PCM and it was about $13000 from memory, so from an independent probably around 7 or 8
MARTY Posted 15October, 2017 Author Report Posted 15October, 2017 Wow i didn't think it would be that much, but i suppose that is PCM prices. i will check out the independents fingers crossed they are more realistic. Thanks for the reply.
Tit Posted 15October, 2017 Report Posted 15October, 2017 Through-bolts? Do you mean heads to short-block? Or the short-block itself?Either-way, it's going to be expensive. Not accounting for 'while you're in there'. You'll end up replacing lots of seals and new hardware etc...
Troubleshooter Posted 15October, 2017 Report Posted 15October, 2017 I'm sure the 13k I referred to was through the short block splitting cases and doing all sorts of o rings or something similar
Troubleshooter Posted 15October, 2017 Report Posted 15October, 2017 ^^ What Tit said ... "While you're in there"Equals $$$$$ but foolish not to refresh other parts while it's apart
Peter M Posted 15October, 2017 Report Posted 15October, 2017 Marty,I recommend you make sure of where the leak is coming from first by degreasing, drive short distance and inspect. You might have to do this a couple of times to really nail the source of the leak. You might be pleasantly surprised that there is an easier fix as the oil might not be coming from where you first thought. The air flow under the engine also plays tricks on where you think its coming from too. I was lucky with a 993 that had an oil drip from the bottom engine case seam. Ended up discovering the oil was leaking along the thread of one of the short case outer bolts and just needed a little Permatex thread sealer to fix.
MARTY Posted 15October, 2017 Author Report Posted 15October, 2017 Thanks for the response so far guys.My car is booked in to get the engine sorted next month but as some have pointed out other things will need to be addressed. And once fixed i thought it would be the best time to sell the car hopefully giving the new owner peace of mind that all had been sorted. Now i need to start another thread about thoughts on values$$.Cheers guysMarty.
