My new insurance company is not happy with the Immobiliser that is fitted to my 964 and is requiring a 3 stage system.

Does anyone have recommendations for a unit that meets this criteria and a Melbourne installer? I'd like to take it Steve Varasso but I think the wait will be about a month.

hey mate, when I bought mine last year, took it to weltmeister in richmond who had an immobiliser install guy. They orgainsed it for me. Didn't get the guys details but they did a god job. But I think mine was a 2 stage not 3. I'd have to check.

Alternately, you could change your insurer. I was with shannons and they never asked me what stage i had when I signed up and recently I've changed insurers and the new guys didn't ask me either. So, you might just be with an insurance-nazi..... ?

I met the owner of this place; http://www.svautoelectrical.com.au/contact/ once. He is a Porsche owner (among other things), hopefully not too far for you? I have a great Auto Elect but he is in Dromana - so that's way too far I'm guessing!

I run an older version of this

http://www.vipersecurity.com.au/products/security/viper-855xv-1-way-vehicle-security-system.

IMO the best way to install an alarm system/immobiliser system like this is if you remove the dash and run the wires along the factory loom.

I installed mine myself over a weekend once and did it how a normal auto elec would go about it. But the problem is limited areas to run the wires. So one day i got sick of all the wires running behind my headunit and visible under the dash, i took the dash out, took the whole system out and re wired it. You could go look for my alarm module and wiring, and i can guarantee you'd never find it.

I like the Viper system, good functions. I turned off the beeping locking and unlocking noises. The remote isn't ugly so that's a bonus.

On advice from Autohaus, I've had Chris from Radios in Motion install an Autowatch 674 Ri in both our 964's, very happy with them. Think it's now been replaced by this one:

I have this on my SC as well - haven't had any issues at all.  Install done in South Melbourne if you want a local recommendation.

Thanks for all of your input guys, greatly appreciated.

I managed to get into Steve at SV Electrical who is the master of all things electrical on these cars (and Alfas and Ferrari's etc). He's done work on my 964 AC system before and was able to fit me in today. He can fit a duel stage but then use the factory single stage to make it a 3 stage system which apparently appeases the insurance company's. I'm unsure which system he is installing but hopefully it is something similar to the one you posted @itsujack as that is a discreet remote.

I'm with MB insurance now and my insurance options are limited because of the new housing situation. We've just bought an inner city terrace house and although the car is kept behind a locked roller door in the backyard under multiple covers, it's not garaged any longer and i struggled to find an insurance company that would insure me for what the car is worth without a garage. The only company that was reasonable was MB insurance who could provide everything I need (agreed value, choice of repaired, etc), but theft is waived until the 3 stage immobiliser was installed. We will renovate and include a garage in due course but until then, that's my situation so insurance options are limited for me.

Just to close this off for future reference, the immobiliser installed by SV was accepted. I simply provided written confirmation from SV that the vehicle was fitted with an Australian Standard, passive arming, remote entry immobiliser. Big relief knowing that the car is now insured for theft again!
