Im with Shannons, $550 pa for $100k cover which is very good, not on historic yet (car must be 35 years old). Ive also just had an incident that did not involve anyone else so I guess that makes it my fault. The car requires about $40k in repairs which has been authorised, all new parts where specified, my choice of repairer (even changed my mind after the car was delivered to another repairer, Shannons paid for the car to be re-located). Ive had to pay a $300 excess which is cheap. Unfortunately it took a month to go through the quoting and getting the authorisation and now a 6 week wait to get the car back.

It appears that there is a hurdle with which assessor you get landed with, the one that assessed my car was very reasonable (ex panel beater).

My premium will change after this as I will go to a rating 2 driver which will cost me a 10% premium ($55) per year.

Very happy with Shannons. My car is being sorted by RSR Motorsport (Mark Poole)

I JUST WANT MY CAR BACK

Further to the above, I visited the crash shop today (as I do every Monday) to get a report on progress. The quality of work being carried out is excellent, progress is very slow, this is due to the wait for parts from Porsche. My car is a 3.2 Carrera, the left hand front guard and the right hand strut assembly are both ex Germany, no stock here in Australia. These parts are due this Wednesday the 28th, thats 5 weeks since ordering , the car still has to be painted. A few more weeks wait yet I guess.

I am posting this so that PFA members are aware its not just about the insurance but the scarcity of the parts therefore a large time delay in getting the car back. Of course new Porsche parts are preferred which my insurer (Shannons) prefers to pay for.  Dansk are out of stock for the fender, as an alternate supplier.

The use of original manufacturer parts possibly explains why Porsche parts are so pricy, they can get away with it with the insurers.

That's a bit shitty! Long wait for the quoting!? Makes my recent crash seem a little less bad... still waiting for my new to me Merc to arrive, may be this week or next...

Hopefully you have another car you can drive.

Went with LSV - Lumley Special Vehicle Insurance - $1366 premium with $1400 excess for 911 997.2 S - Choice of repairer, NCB protected, over 40, no track

Shannons, NRMA, Budget Direct - around $2400-2500 premium with $1400-$2000 excess

Hope this helps.

Similar. Have been with the majority of insurance companies over the years, i think its about finding the right one for your specific car at the time.

08 997.1 4S agreed value $110k no crash history, Shannons over $2k everyone else around the $2.5 mark, i am now with Famous for this car $1400 with $700 excess up to 10,000kms per year and monthly payments at no additional cost.

cheers

option anyone have any exp with Famous ?

Yep with them now, good so far seem to get the whole P car thing. I just called them to change storage address for my car and they have listed both home and storage on the policy, and there was no price change to my policy, more boutique business which i see as more personal,  but have never made a claim.

cheers

I just received a quote from famous.  They offered to insure my car for $40k with a $400 excess for $541.42. ($46 per month)  The big difference is that unlike RYNO (my current insurer) you don't get to keep the carcass after a total loss/ write off.  I assume you can purchase it back of course.  Depends if there are expensive recoverable items.

Ryno is currently $681p/a - for $27k cover.

has anyone made a claim with any of the others aside from Shannons? and were you happy with the work?

the couple of times I've made a claim with Shannons they try and direct you to their repairer, but when i remind them i have repairer of choice in my policy it's like a light bulb comes on and they remember it's a thing!

Before my car was written off Shanons did mention a repairer that was closer to my home, twice, this was after I said where I wanted it to go. I think it is just something they have to say. It is never going to sway where my car will go.

Car was written off so a mute point.

My 2 write off claims in just over 2 years they have been very good, I was very proactive in that I contacted them to chase things up. Monies were transferred very easily for exactly what the agreed value was.

You're making my premiums incessantly rise...low risk, rural, no crime, Islanders!

I notice that Ryno appears to require its customers to use O'Brien glass if they claim for a windscreen breakage.  Unclear in the PDS what happens if a customer prefers to go elsewhere (eg, Porsche dealer or performance car glass specialist).  Choice of repairer is spelled out for normal accidents but not for windscreens.  I'd be quite worried about what type of windscreen Ryno would install in my car— eg, genuine replacement versus a cheap piece of Chinese glass.

Funny you should ask, I'm with ryno and called them up just last week to repair a stone chip I got from our run down to the flinders car show. If the repair was not possible, they said they'd replace it - free. Yes, o'brien is their preferred installer and you get one freebie each year on windscreens. I didnt want a replacement as I was fearful of it not quite fitting in an old car and I'd lose my sunvisor decal too, so the repair went ahead and all good.

I'll call them tomorrow and check for you as I still have all the paperwork and reference number of the call. But I'm pretty sure they would source a genuine part... whether o'brien has to do it or not - not sure on that. I'll check. Report back.

Fantastic, thanks!  Worth knowing, just in case.

Just called Ryno Insurance and they told me they are no longer insuring Porsches except for classic cars (older than 25 years)

I got quotes from Porsche Insurance, Famous and Shannons.  All within $100 of each other although the excess varied from $1,250 to $,1850.

Had a chat with the Shannons guy about the strange fact that my 71S has a higher insured value than my new Porsche but the insurance premium is a fraction . . . he said it's two things:  they just get far fewer accident claims on classic cars and the repair cost per accident on older cars is consistently lower because they are so much simpler (no complex electronics, sensors, etc).

Ryno said the same when they quoted me low $$ on my car too!!

So spoke to Ryno today, they said I get 2xrepairs and 1xreplacement per yr. so I had the option to replace even though window is repairable- good news that!!

They couldn't answer me - will call me back on:(stay tune):

Q: can I replace with a P original glass if I do a replace? (Not a cheap copy they might wanna pick)

Q: does o'brien have to do the work - their preferred supplier? Can I choose?

Anyone with these guys?

Probably unfair because they are a separate legal entity and are regulated by APRA, but I was put off by the fact that Enthusiast is the automotive brand of AssetInsure.

AssetInsure's parent company, CBL Insurance Group, was just put into liquidation by the Reserve Bank of New Zealand because they mis-managed their underwriting risk and weren't holding enough capital against future insurance claims.  https://www.insurancebusinessmag.com/au/news/breaking-news/business-as-usual-for-cbls-grown-up-kid-94378.aspx

Been a long time customer with Shannon's. Agreed value, only $12 per / M more than my old bogan Commodore I also had with them. I guess, policies  will differ for many individual circumstances. And, despite most of us being relatively happy with our cover, we can only hope that our insurers are there for us when & if we ever need them!

Just going through a claim with Shannons at the moment.  All good so far, no issues when repairer wanted to replace the centre radiator when he pulled everything off the car.  Hopefully car ready for pickup tomorrow.  This one my fault (only accident I've ever had where I hit someone else in 40 years of driving....), hopefully premium increase won't be too bad next year - $10500k + repair ?
