But I'd need a muffler on top of that too..

Inexpensive MagnaFlow twin muffler turned into a "Happy Crab".

Very cost effective compared to, say, a Monty

I have one of these on my 3.6 (993) donk in the hotrod.  (The neighbors hate me, but I think they are getting used to it ?. )

At a 20% drivetrain loss that is around 240 at the flywheel so it is not bad at all. What made you go with those coil packs? Do you have any idea of the output in mA? I have caved and I am going coil packs as the twin plug distributor and twin CDI's was going to be too expensive for my budget, and doesn't have the tuneability.

Jeff, I think some porsche people say around 15% transaxle loss.. however, I still would be surprised that this engine is producing 230ish at the flywheel.. the motor is built totally stock.

From here, I am wanting to experiment with different exhausts, cams, and ultimately, pistons and cylinders. I put a dynomax muffler from my 3.2 on it for more noise.. down low, performance was same, up top, it produced 5kw less.. Apparently NA motors can be sensitive to flow?? I don't profess to understand it.

As for why these coil packs? no idea. it all came in the kit from Rasant Products.. you can check out the coils on their website...

Now.. who has a set of 964 cams to "loan" to me?

195 hp at the wheels.

I was a little disappointed. However they claim that cars that are rated at stock 200hp (ie, Toyota 86) consistently put down up to 160...

My stock but tired '88 3.2 only managed 175 hp at the wheels last year.  As the dyno guys said to me:  "But they don't weigh much."  Lucky I thought!

After a lot of research I bought a set of Denso 90919-02234 CoP's for mine as they are very well regarded by the 930 guys.  These are smart coils so they can be triggered directly from the ECU as they have the igniter built in.  They are OE on Lexus ES300 and a number of other 3.5 litre Toyotas.  Not much change out of a 1000 bucks for a dozen thought!

Rasant also supply a smart CoP - Bosch 0 986 221 024 - which are about 2/3 the cost of the Denso's and are OE on some VAG cars of the early 2000's.

I wouldn't look at adopting modern technology as "caving", just smarter and cheaper!  A Haltech Elite 750 plus O2 sensor driver and unterminated generic harness is about $2,300 and they easily have plenty of functions for our old 911 to run full sequential on injection and ignition plus self learning for fueling.  I've also been recommended a Motec M130 but I think that will be another 1200 bucks for no advantage that I can determine except the name .  I need to ask more questions.

Are the 964 cams the wildest you can run with the standard pistons due to piston to valve clearance limitations?

I do and they’re yours if you pay the freight.  I don’t do stock ...

195whp is excellent for a stock 3.0. looks like proper engine management and the ITB's/far less restrictive intake flow has done the trick there. normal flywheel?

Sam,

I've just recognised your car!  Do you want to tell us about your current EFI upgrade??

Pete how's progress on your car?

Just need to pull the heads off one bank again to double check the piston to valve clearance and waiting for some plating to be completed.  Looks really good and expecting it to be going next week.

What is pete doing to his??

Not much really, just paying the bills!

Stage 1 - Twin plug, 98mm, 993S cams, BBE + Dansk exhaust, cam position sensor

Stage 2 - Remove distributor and AFM, activate the twin plugs with CoP's and sequential injection with either a Elite 750 or Motec M130 and tune.  I want to keep the standard Carrera intake manifold so no ITB's for me.

Did a 2 day training course with Haltech last weekend.  Of the 20 guys there, only two of us didn't own a dyno so learnt heaps and highly recommend to anyone interested in EFI.

haltech and jenveys, probably 5k worth of gear sitting on the whale tail ?

TWIPAwn.jpg

the jenveys are pure porn though, so i'm not too upset about it.

240whp was the baseline, so will see what ecu and itb's add.
