Knowing how much it cost a friend of mine to build his Mk1 rally RS1600 and the level of engineering details in this car, I can’t see much change from £250-300k. Possibly more.

You'd want to love escorts to spend that sort of coin.  What's it worth finished, 50k, 75k, surely no more? An investment in fun but makes no rational sense.

He says that they have had 1 person on it at least for a year.  So call it 50 weeks x 40 hours = 2000 hours.  At - guessing - 100/hr that is 200 large in labour.  That doesn’t count the custom cosworth engine and custom suspension parts.  The final product has to push 300 large.

This particular car would sell for big money due to the Gordon Murray connection.  If you or I paid for it and sold it not much.

I’m dissapointed in the wheels - I know what they are trying to do but a period Motorsport copy wheel woild have been better.

You would be surprised at what really good ones are changing hands for offmarket, but I agree it’s not worth what he’ll have spent.

Bear in mind a decent spec Sherwood or Millington engine will be £35k+, really good Millington is £50k complete, we have a full Gp4 kit for a Mk2 that was about $7k just for the fabrications and it’s not hard to see where the money goes.

Buying a fully built Mk1 or Mk2 Gp4 car is waaay cheaper than building one....

Sometimes it's not about the ROI, it's about the dream. You only have to look around here & other sites to see that.

This is a wealthy man finally scratching an itch who has given the project to some extremely competent people to execute & up to now it's amazing what those guys have done.

Mr Coastr you should contact GM directly with you wheel concerns and offer your solution to this oversight. They look period to me , very Ford AVO.

What a great build, & if I had the cash they would be on the list (short list).

Car restorers here should take note. I can think of several who could do the same, self promote & entertain, but don't, shame.

Excited about the next instalment.

A friend bought a 430 Ferrari a few years ago. The trade off with his missus was that she wanted a new kitchen and appliances that cost $155k. Happy wife etc

We'd all probably spend a ludicrous amount of money to build our perfect car if we had the disposable. I know of a guy who built a crazy fast, big hp/everything carbon/titanium WRX that was basically a factory rally car which cost him over $300k and sold it to Japan for like $80k or something, though he also owns a few high end sports cars too, so I dare say he wanted to scratch that itch with building something regardless of cost. Doubt mine would be an Escort or WRX, yet whatever floats ya boat

Retropower actually chimed into the comments and stated that, for comparison, an Alfaholics GTA is £230k...

That just boggles the mind. I know they're probably very good, as Chris Harris did a test with one and raved about them, but at nearly $500grand AUD for an old Alfa? That's mental.
