generalsmirnov Posted 27February, 2018 Report Share Posted 27February, 2018 Hi All, Excited to be a new 911 owner (AU delivered 1975 ice green Sporto 911 Coupe)! The engine (or at least the fan housing) has been changed to a US 911S (engine # 6270894). So I'm looking for the original 2.7L engine with number 6159051. EDIT: I finally confirmed the matching engine number with Porsche, but still need to find the actual engine please. Thanks to anyone who can help! ELSPORTO Posted 27February, 2018 Report Share Posted 27February, 2018 Hey Scott, do you have the whole engine number? That ice green car is a ripper by the way!
Troubleshooter Posted 27February, 2018 Report Share Posted 27February, 2018 Good looker that one!
generalsmirnov Posted 27February, 2018 Author Report Share Posted 27February, 2018 Thank you! https://imgur.com/a/fovX1 Unfortunately I don't know the actual engine number, so I can only narrow down the first 4 digits (confirmed that far at least). SteveF Posted 27February, 2018 Report Share Posted 27February, 2018 Very nice looking car that one. Congratulations. Do you know who did the engine change? Perhaps they still have the original? My old sporto had a similar change to a US engine and I believe the original block was still at the specialist who did the rebuild.
generalsmirnov Posted 27February, 2018 Author Report Share Posted 27February, 2018 No idea unfortunately. Suspect it was done in Qld, but no hard evidence to back that up.
Mike D'Silva Posted 28February, 2018 Report Share Posted 28February, 2018 Might have been done in Canberra...

Porsche should be able to tell you the original engine number your car shipped with. Worth a call to QLD roads to see if they'll tell you if that engine number is currently registered. generalsmirnov Posted 4March, 2018 Author Report Share Posted 4March, 2018 For a few years now Porsche won't give out engine numbers due to reports of fraud. I guess counterfeit re-stamping of engines. QLD/NSW roads won't let you lookup by chassis number. I have to go into a branch and make a case to the officer. That's Plan B. When it was on ACT roads it had already had the engine change, so it's 5+ years ago that it was done.
911oclock Posted 6March, 2018 Report Share Posted 6March, 2018 Maybe just call as many specialists shops you can think of. It’s a very distinctive car so they’d remember.

Porsche gave me my engine number from my chassis number along with all the options from factory - that was only 12 months ago.
generalsmirnov Posted 8March, 2018 Author Report Share Posted 8March, 2018 Sorry to be specific, if the engine number you provide: Is matching: they will confirm matching and put on the certificate Is NOT matching: nothing gets told or put on the certificate Did you have the matching number already or did they just provide it? generalsmirnov Posted 25March, 2019 Author Report Share Posted 25March, 2019 Edited the thread as I have finally tracked down the engine number with the help of a very kind PCNSW member! If you know where it is, please do let me know. JV911 and Merv
