Hey, I remember these from my 124.  Bit like a tiny version of the water bladders I had in a couple of yachts through the years

Hi all, it has been another 3 months, back at work in the cool part of the country...Darwin.  Who would have thought? The latest PSA is still <0.01 considered zero.  The results so far show the results are stable.  Good news.

I have given up coffee, which wasn't that hard because I didn't drink that much anyway.  Tea is also off the menu.  This doesn't mean I can't have any, it just means that there could be dribbly consequences.  As soon as I gave these up, the result was a dramatic improvement.

Alcohol

Wine, not good at all.

Beer...limit of one.  2 beer screamer anyway,

Spirits...Drink of choice ATM is Dubliner liqueur.  1x is safe. 2x, I don't care anymore.

The strangest of all is milk.  I would normally drink 2 litres plus per day but now I have cut back to one.  The good side is that I have more control, less leakage and improving all the time, down to shield pads which I feel is just a confidence thing.

Probably be able to have more caffeine and milk later, but for now I am really happy.

So the drink of choice is ... water.

Only 2 months until the goal of being dry and pad free...normal.

Now, erectile disfunction.  As they say, "if you don't use it you lose it" and it's true of any muscle.  So a course of low dose Viagra was recommended.  There is also Cialis and self administered injections.  I will let you guess where the injection goes.  The cheapest is Viagra and as with all drugs there are side effects.  I didn't take any prior to the hernia op. just in case, then I did some research and found that there are restrictions for use for pilots, so didn't take it.

Viagra is 6 hours from pill to throttle.  I was going to say pole but thought it may bring up a different picture to mind.

Cialis is 36 hours  and

the injections don't seem to have a restriction but I will keep researching.  CASA doesn't seem to have an issue with it.

The big problem is colour blindness, in particular being able to distinguish between blue and green.  It affects about 3-4% of men.  6 fatal accidents have been attributed to Viagra.  So you aviators out there, declare it to your DAME and expect a letter from CASA asking for a trial with your opthamologist.

...and you thought nothing affects colour vision.  I did.

So, I haven't taken anything and things are getting better as time goes on.  Nerves grow very slow.

Cheers all

That's great news Brian..Fingers crossed things keep improving.

My big brother is running a very similar parallel to you after having his prostrate recently removed...

Good news.  I was wondering how he was going.

Damn mate.......Really sorry to hear that.....

How did you do it?

Not sure, I think it happened gradually.  Felt a sting at times when I stretched, twisting, laying across 3 seats on Jetstar flight to Darwin (got stuck trying to move), standing up from a lounge chair.

I gave it 6 weeks before doing anything (recommended 4-6 weeks) put on 5 kg to prove it.  Then light work for further 2 weeks so I am at a bit of a loss to explain it really.

UPDATE

PSA: 3 month check has come back as <0.01 again, so the results are stable.  Good sign that the Dr has removed all the rust

Hernia: hasn’t deteriorated and hasn’t stopped me doing most things, just no heavy lifting, except now it is time to cut firewood again.  Dr didn’t charge for the consultation, I think he was a little embarrassed.  To be restitched at my convenience..

Incontinence:  I missed my goal date but continuing to improve.  Fatigue from the long day then flight home, (0430 to 0945 the next day) really knocks the bladder around and limits the pelvic floor exercises for few days.  Two steps forward, one step back.

E.D:  tried the injections (Caverject) with varying results but couldn’t handle the side effects mainly pain and not from the injection.  I am not sure where to go from here.  It could be a combination approach.

Caffeine/alcohol: I have been able to tolerate one coffee or one glass of wine without becoming a dribbling mess.  Have only tried one small glass of wine and two small coffees 5 days apart to date.  So things are on the improve.  Tea and beer are still off the menu, haven’t tried them again but not in a rush.

Not very exciting news which is probably a good thing.

Niko: how’s your brother going ?

Hi Brian, He's slowly coming good but still has some leakage problems.

If he has a day where he does bugger all, it's all good, but when he does any work even light stuff he has the leakage.

He seems to be adapting better to it now though, and is a lot more positive in his outlook on life.

Good thing is he is back with the boys at the local Mens Shed.

He thinks if he actually takes a couple of weeks off and does nothing at all it might help a lot.    But he can't help himself.

Also still enjoys a cool refresher on a warm day which also doesn't help.

Hopefully you stay on track there as well mate.

Hi Niko,

It’s could be his body weight around the waist in conjunction with using his abdominal muscles that puts pressure on the bladder causing the leakage.   He needs to train his pelvic floor and core muscles to “activate” whenever he needs to move or do any work.  This is where the Physio is a big help to identify the correct muscles and develop a training  program.  Through life we have all trained our muscles to activate when doing a particular movement and the interesting thing is that we have all used different muscles to achieve the same result.  Some people are able to activate specific muscles on demand when others cannot.  It’s muscle training and muscle memory.  After identifying and training muscles to do a particle job, at a particular time, eventually the brain activates the appropriate muscle(s) automatically (muscle memory).  From what I have read it could take 10,000 repeats of a muscles exercise before it becomes memory automatic.

Glad his outlook has improved and he is out and about.  It can take 2 years to be “dry” so tell him to be patient.  It can be frustrating at times.  My neighbour had exactly the same operation two days after me, same place, same doctor and was dry in 8 weeks...bastard.  That’s frustrating.

Lucky boys.  I assume this was within days of having the catheter removed.
