I’m clearly not manly enough to own it! Haha

yea that one came up yesterday, seriously nice - my favourite colour too! However I feel I have seen so many excellent examples that have gone for $20-23k sinc I have been looking (and they go FAST) I am going to try and time one at that price and pounce.

@Daly87That blue one looks sweet good k’s, FSH and realistically priced for an S. Although in the higher end of price maybe the price gives you time to inspect PPI and negotiate (get some tyre kicking lessons from @symsy). Cheaper ones going fast may put pressure on you to commit to something your not quite sure of or have time to inspect. Bird in the hand...

I'd second that advice, cheap ones might be cheap now but cost you more later...

The cheaper ones I talk of are not the curent cheap ones that are not moving, and for good reason as iv investigated them all. The ones I am talking of all have had owners in the 10year marks, FSH, some have had much maintenance parts done, really great condition cars one as low as 67km for $23k to 120km for $20k... I would not be considering anything less than that type of package. Comparing those to the $29k+ cars, I can’t see why its worth the extra.

All the cars $28-33k are excellent examples, but I guess the market shows there is no buyers for that price as they have all been on for up to 4months.

Half the mileage I would pay 3k extra any day.. but really it also depends on perishables.. belts , rubbers etc also .. 3k goes no where and sometimes the well used car is the better option.  Its true I do push hard but but i will say it again, beating with a blunt stick doesnt normally get you much , sharply priced is more my aim , with a little fat left for me or the next fella,  if im met with genuine , I meet that kind of buyer, bullshIt artists, I slam em ..

There is a lot to also be said of the good guys  , a guy the last year guy whom I met and did some stuff with  , I ended up with spares , two car covers and a hoist and a intercom.. all on top a deal at a very fair price..  I got a beer to when I loaded the gear , all in the last minute dealings and a run to the ATM for a grand :)

Slight drift but we seem to get a bit lost in the reality stakes on this and other car forums… many just dont think like us..we act like they should .

As much as we might not think possible.. some people are really lost with the never ending list of questions we are getting more and more attuned to asking

this is a reply from a recent enquiry I made

I bought it from the mechanic named Alan there and he has the copies of the servicing.
I met him through my mates who are really into these cars and is one of the top mechanics in Melbourne that specialised in XXX cars.
I'm not really a car guy to be honest Steve, i bought it because all my mates have these cars and i thought i would enjoy and share the same passion, it turns out my passion didnt last...
Yeah all good mate ask all the questions you like, i don't mind. All i could do though is pass on the question to the mechanic who sold me the car.
I'm really sure the car is super clean as everyone who sees it when i first brought it to track day says how did i get my hands on this clean car.....

Hope this helped dude, thats all i know about the car... i drove it maybe 4 times since i had it.. put like only 1000 kms since oct 17 lol...

The guy is loosing money and super open to inspections etc!!!  I personally  have decided he has spent like 5k over market to buy this car and 3-4k+ in doing some work to take it to the track..

I could slam the guy but I am in a discusion at good market price plus 2k-3k .. so not the cheapest.. i essentially end up with a super clean car , super prepared and serviced.. worth it

Moral of the story , cheaper is not always better and I ask them to justify their price to me..

I had an interesting experience test driving a 986 Boxster I was keen on today.  Half way through the test drive it dropped a cylinder and the engine light came on - limped it back and parked.

It is a low kilometre car, but the service history has holes, and I suspect some of the main things such as water pump, belts, and IMS bearing have not had attention.  I suspect I can get $5-6k off asking to cover these things, but I don't have easy access to a proper Porsche knowledgable mechanic... So the above advice seems to be pretty solid and I may re-evaluate one or two of the cars currently on the market.

I also drove a 987 3.4 S yesterday (those 3.4 S cars go like a scalded cat!) - very nice car, but 150kms on the clock...

Whats the going rate these days for a 986S? The price range seems to vary widely.

Yep - I liked it a lot.  I am worried about the 150k on the clock though...

If service history is ok it should be good?

Like some have said, i would rather a car that was driven rather than a garage queen.

Agreed.  I'm still digesting it all :)  I do like the idea of a nice 987 that I don't have to keep as a garage queen vs a "really nice" 986 that I feel a need to pamper...

I couldn’t tell you what the going rate is, I guess that’s only what the buyer is willing to pay?? The price advertised does Vary very widely. I have noticed the guys who want $28k+ have been sat for a while and are not willing to negotiate.

the current cars sub $25k, and circa 120km have also been sat for a while - for reasons I can assume are why I wouldn’t buy them. Some with no FSH, one a UK import, some with poor interiors/exteriors.

The fast selling range is $22-24k, with around 100-130km(one even had 67,000km went for around $23k), FSH, long term owners and excellent condition interior/exterior. I have been too slow on reacting on 5 or so in the past two months alone that fit the above criteria, all sold very quickly. So I can only assume that’s what the buying area is...

Question or a statement? What makes it dodgy? Only has one key and has an aftermarket head unit.

Well played on the 986 research, gold star for you both! S only came in 6 speed... Duh!

Don't get me wrong, if it had have been a member's or even a private sale I'd have just kept quiet, but dealers should know better.

Well done  Daly87, I knew you'd pick it up ;)   I see the black one has dropped price again... And so has the forest green one  - still too much, but it's a cool colour combo :)

No Boxster S logo on the blank space under the storage space under the CD holders :CoolDance:

Nice looking standard one though!

I agree, but I'd be pissed travelling to see it to find it not as advertised...
