Buying a Porsche isn't easy eh?

Hey no midlife jokes here Harv.. I'm 40 too :)

So how many of you searched until you found the best car AND your first colour choice of P-car?

Colour may need to come secondary to condition.

Yeh I'm sure it won't be so bad. Because I'm open to a Cab 993 version. I imagine less people are interested in them. As I said above, if the car has some cosmetic woes thats fine by me.. easy to fix. I can check out the price of parts on Pelican and have a rough idea of what to expect. If the car needs basic things done to it, I can get my brother to help with those.. and all else off to a P independant.

I just want a nice honest car.

The next one I hope to look at his here

Carlins had this car some time ago. You may find that the "Trovit" website is regularly out of date.

I don't think I could wait years... I'll either end up ditching the idea OR will buy the one that is 'good enough' I'm also very aware that 6 - 12mths time my current car value will plummet. As I said in this thread earlier, I either keep it and wait wait wait OR sell it and be carless which will be a right pain in the bum.

Not as interested in Boxsters. I think it's because the 911 is the one I've always lusted after. Can't help but think if I go the B route, I'll always be wanting a 911.

The blue cab above is sold :(

Good to see you are narrowing in Amanda. 911 is a really classic choice.

Must have the Irish on my side

Would have settled for a few colours I test drove, but there were always some issues. Amazing how different a good car feels when you finally get into it.

Got to know a few reputable dealers and told one I wanted a mid 80's 3.2, Aust del & black, would also go silver if it came up. Got told factory black was not that common and would be waiting a while. Within 3 weeks, got a call from the dealer who had found a car and was going to buy it anyway. Gave me first choice and it never made it to the showroom.

Get out and let people know what you want and liaise with the Porsche specialists. A good salesman will match supply with demand, especially in this environement.

Sometimes the planets just align ;)

Nice 3.2! Congrats

What sort of issues prevented you from buying some of the cars you looked at?

Aside from colour, main issues were poor service records (sometimes potentially tampered with), rough bodywork (suspected accidents), imports (rust issues, USA or Asia spec / accessories), general feel on the road (not stable, $ to improve handling / braking), general condition (some people just don't look after things), modifications and so on.

Just like buying anything, the more you look, the better you understand and the quicker you can act on securing the right car when it comes along, no second guessing ;)

general condition (some people just don't look after things)

Oh man you are so right there...came across one example, you would think, machine like this...you want to treasure and keep as pristine as possible...well not this one...'Perfect Condition' my arz

&sort=default"]Check it out here...

Aside from the acres of 'terracotta' interior - hey some may like it, I went to check it out, wasn't for me, was seeing red after 30 seconds...get worked up enough driving, don't need my surroundings and interior eggin' me on...

Lady owner vehicle (no offence not sexist or anything) so the interior smelled like makeup even with the top down (you know the smell when an older heavily made up female relative (or male for that matter :o, not that there is anything wrong with that... ) goes in for the kiss hello/goodbye and smells of foundation? )...

Well, all the soft rubber buttons and toggle switches and dials on centre console and steering wheel were badly gouged and scratched/faded from her long finger nails tearing into them, drivers seat r/h side bolster badly scratch and rubbed, bad wear and tear, driver's side carpet mat had 'fiddy cent' sized hole right through it and new hole starting in vehicle carpet from her driving with stilletos and grinding a hole into the area around the brake and clutch...paint scratched and chipped, inverse dent on the rear lid porkin' up, for the low kms and price she wanted car was abysmal.

Been listed in car sales for before I was looking at the start of the year.

Some people have little or no 'mechanical empathy'...I thought if this is what the outside looks like, what is lurking underneath? Has it always had right amount of oil? Coolant? Driven lightly when cold? Warmed down? All filters including pollen changed? Service items by time not k's changed? bah

Oh and is a 3.2, listed as a 3.4 and only told when I asked the hubby who was demoing the car (owner wasn't available). When something that obvious is overlooked, I wonder what else hasn't been mentioned or has been overlooked? Diminished the 'honesty' of the deal.

Can't see how they expect to sell it like that. If it was me, I would have replaced as many buttons as possible, replaced carpet and any other signs of wear, thorough detail inside and out and scratches, dents and chips removed.

But then again if it was mine, none of this would have occurred... ;)

Oh dear - did you fly up to QLD to look at that car Nick?

My cars aren't like that inside, that's for sure. The only girly thing in my car is a hair tie around my gear shift.. for those times I forget one when going to the gym! And even then, a dude with longer hair would use the same tie!

It might be hard to find a Porsche.. but selling my GTI seems to be easy. Have a interstate buyer ready to go. Just needs to pass a PPI, get the gutter rash fixed on my rims and the car will go bye bye.

I'm excited :D

Oh dear.. tampering with service records. Scary stuff. Just shows how much the PPI matters.

The 964 I looked at has been well looked after. The glove box, door pockets all look brand new.. not a crumb or mark in them. The frunk carpet looks new... the only wear was a bit on the gear shift and steering wheel. Totally to be expected. So I think I might have found myself a goodin.. lets hope I can seal the deal before someone beats me to it.

And where do I get one o dem new fangled 'frunk' carpets' you speak of?

But the lightweight RS spec ones, with the high magnesium and carbon nanotube thread count? :D

Gutter rash - wasn't me I swear. I bought the car like it and always meant to fix it. Just never got around to it. I also did have one encounter with a bluestone gutter in Kensington.. and I was very pleased I hadn't dropped the $600 to fix them at that point in time!
