Redracn Posted 29June, 2018 Report Share Posted 29June, 2018 Its those pesky rules than ban pretty much any advancement that makes a car go faster. Ground effects for example. 50% extra downforce is just the tip of the iceberg.

firstone Posted 29June, 2018 Report Share Posted 29June, 2018 I just watched this again with no volume as I'm at a cafe. I know it's real time, but without volume it looks sped up it is so quick. How does the human brain keep up driving like this? ?

Damienb Posted 30June, 2018 Report Share Posted 30June, 2018 Hardly looks real. Same thoughts as firstone - had to keep checking the timer to make sure it wasn't being played in 1.5x. Video game stuff. Wow.
thumperson Posted 30June, 2018 Report Share Posted 30June, 2018 It is crazy fast down low with the elec motors dominating. I agree that it gives the impression of being sped up or of being in the millennium falcon jumping to light speed. How his brain keeps up is beyond me. Peter M Posted 30June, 2018 Report Share Posted 30June, 2018 How perfect is the gearing. It's pretty rare that it goes outside a 1,500rpm rev band.

TINGY Posted 1July, 2018 Report Share Posted 1July, 2018 I have watched this a few times now and it is just incredible, the intimate knowledge that he would have to have of the track just to do that time. The acceleration is amazing, to see how quick it got to top speed on the straight, wow. I guess the world was saying the same as we are here when Bellof broke the record. sleazius Posted 2July, 2018 Report Share Posted 2July, 2018 Got to agree - the limiting factor here is the weight of his balls slowing the car down. Hardly looks real its that quick.

"As far as his record went, it took years for it to be spoken with the kind of reverence that it held even today, when the 919 Hybrid Evo bested it. To everyone that day, it was expected that the 956C would be faster than its predecessors, and just a routine thing to set a fast lap in practice. Porsche’s head of engineering at the time, Norbert Singer, told Jalopnik that Bellof’s record wasn’t even a planned thing. It was just normal work. When the time came through, some of Singer’s teammates asked it the time posted was a mistake, but that’s about as much attention as it got for years. Redracn Posted 2July, 2018 Report Share Posted 2July, 2018 Its about time they throw out the rule books and let them at it. Could mean the hospitals would be full of nanny's having a heart attack at the risk involved. Check out the corner apex speed as this is far more important than straight line speed.
