Britain’s equivalent to a Singer

Recommended Posts

Nice find. So reading the specs looks like they keep original engine and vin but upgrade everything.

For me starting in a RHD market would make the doner an easier source and stripping it as they do will mean any UK rust concerns will be eliminated.  Just the exchange rate ?.

What are the thoughts on how it would be treated bringing in to AU. Will it be singer style where the govt rules treat the rebuild as a new start to the car’s life so no longer an 86 is now a 2018?

I dont think its as good as a Singer,,, much more work goes into the Singer cars,,,but it is a lot more cheaper than a Singer ,,,,,Still think it is a bloody good alternative regardless and the car certainly looks just as good ,,,,,If I saw one on the road I would think it was a Singer ...

I will keep an eye on what these guys build in the near future who knows they could just become the Singer equivalent in time ....

And a price to match I expect. Blind Freddy can see it's a Singer copy. Sure this one is a quality car, yet to say they're not copying Singer or that they're better is a ridiculous statement. Saying that, if you threw $300k at a 911 you'd get the same car as above. $600-700k and tell the builder 'I want nothing but THE best with no expense spared', you'd expect to receive a car of Singer quality. There are people here who are good enough to build one and there is some high quality cars in Oz, yet who has ponied up the coin to build the absolute ultimate 911 of Singer quality?  Noone

To throw $300k on a Theon rather than $700k that a Singer costs makes sense for the "normal" person i suppose, if i was looking at a new 911 i would have to have a look at one of these for sure, next question is can we get them into Aus?

I believe someone in Aus has sent a car over from Sydney to Singer.

Is the Singer US$400k better ………..really ?

Another 964 wasted

You can't justify it that way, as Singer prices are not really justifiable in the first place. Prices aside, Singers are really in a league of their own when it comes down to the tiniest detail. Even if I could afford one, there are a heap of other Porsche's I would buy for that money, but there are so many people out there with crazy money to burn, Singer as a business is quite safe.

You have been to Singer in one of your LA trips havent you Jeff ......?

I went into the carpark, but it was closed. Still was a lot of 964's sitting outside waiting their turn ;)

I did get so see a couple of Singers up close at Luft last year, and they are really next level with all of the custom touches.

The engine in the video was,nt the 4.0  I think Tiff said it was an original 964 cup car engine ,,,,,on their web site they claim 400bhp for 4.0 power plant .. 9M has been building solid 4.0 in the UK for some time now could be them ...?

Our engine rebuilds are outsourced to a leading Porsche engine build specialist to ensure we can achieve optimum performance and reliability. All of our Recreation engines have a single mass flywheel and are available with either a 5 or 6 speed Getrag G50 gearbox.

3.6L 285bhp Standard configuration but rebuilt and detailed as new
3.6L SC 400+bhp Same as above but fitted with a Super Charger
3.8L 350bhp Increased displacement with mild tune and increased torque
4.0L 400bhp Full tune with RS crank

We happened to run into Rob Dickinson and one of his Singers in 2015 heading to Rennsport on the Big Sur... Got the opportunity to have a proper uncrowded look over the car.  They are sublime with every detail thought out and executed.  The argument is that you are buying beautifully engineered art as opposed to a Porsche.  @OBRUT @Cam Arnott

I can get you a visit next time you are in town mate. Got very chummy with their opps manager when I was at Luft 5. You might be disappointed though....they do way more outsourcing than you do. Don't even have their own spray booth ?

I know it's said "imitation is the best form of flattery" but setting out to copy a Singer is going to be fraught with comparisons that will ultimately fall (well) short of the mark.

Why these companies can't come up with an original idea is beyond me. I say let Singer be Singer and create your own vision, something unique and not a complete cliche of every other "resto mod" Porsche would also be refreshing.

If you have a million dollars to spend on a Porsche then you should be so lucky. Truth be told some of the coolest cars (and most enjoyable) are often some of the cheapest - that's actually the cool bit!

That’s the same as  a Singer, like a fake Rolex is just as good as the real thing.Pretty sure Tiff himself was cutting laps at GT3 pace in a Singer, which means that it’s not just a 964 with a haircut and a nice suit.

Looks like Theon may be filling a void by being a Singer type company, dialling back the ultra high end Singer attention to detail and design etc, and positioning itself cost-wise between the high end private build and the skys the limit Singer

Bang on.  Though I doubt we will see RallyCab clones anytime soon...

RallyCab just screams fun. That's why I love it so much.

Next project is well into the planning stage. Fun and usefulness being the key themes.
