Nations Cup GT3's

Recommended Posts

IMG-1557.jpg

So i thought i'd start a conversation on the Nations Cup GT3's to see what history we can dig up... I know some members on here are current owners of the MK1 996 GT3's that raced in the day so hopefully they can contribute. Back then i was a mechanic along side some of my mates in Porsche GT3 teams so i know most of the cars but it would be interesting to know where 14 or so GT3 Clubsports are now?

Anyone got photos or stories feel free to contribute?

Looking forward to what is uncovered on this subject.

For the uninitiated (myself included), I have included a Wikipedia link to the year 2000 race series:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2000_Australian_Nations_Cup_Championship

Looks like 6 of the top 10 finishers were 996 GT3s ?

I am the current owner of the TNT car you can see in the bottom RHS of the poster. It's done a very careful 21,000 race km's.....ha ha.....here it is at Targa High Country & will be running again this year. It's a wonderful car, I love it !!

Ok, so I have the Matt Coleman car. He bought in Oct of 2000 from Jim Mckewon and did a few races in that year. Will share some pictures of the car when Jim had it. Have been unable to locate pictures while Matt owned it, maybe some guys on here will be able to help. Car was purchased new by Jim from PCM the sent to Fitzy for conversion to race car. Was log booked as a 3.9 - so a bit of extra power right from the start.

The guy I bought it from owns the Falken tyres car pictured also, that car is located in Melbourne.

Great thread

Peter had 3 ex nations cup GT3's, you've now picked up one, I believe he has the other 2 (Falken & a silver/grey one). Yours is speed yellow?

@hugh - Yes speed yellow in the day,

Just checked the log book for events

2000 JMK bought new and converted car ( via Fitzy) eastern creek, debuet, then hidden valley, sundown, then sold to Matt Coleman. He did Bathurst & AGP race that year

2001 AGP, PI and Oran Park only then no more for the rest of season.

2002 car did full season with Matt Coleman and won the series

Car then mostly retired to non profesional events after this as the factory Cup Cars arrived and most of these early cars non eligible to run without heavy modifications. Matt bought a factory cup car for 03 and my car was not run that year.

2004 sold off to John Kaisis

2005 Fitzy bought it and used as a promo / happy laps car for 5 years

Then PCM club events until I got it 2017

That may well be my car next to the silver car - bit difficult but in the log book it is there and was yellow

I'm pretty sure one of the cars in our club sprint is an ex nations cup, and it is silver, do you know if #22 was ever updated to 6.2 specs? The one that runs with us is 6.2 or upgraded to 6.2

I was recently at Bob J HO in Melb and they had a bunch of cars in reception area. Not sure if the 996 at the back is one of the originals, had non standard rear wing that could have been done later.

My guess is the 996 in the background is a cup car, looks to be LHD. Thanks for sharing
