So not too long ago, I took a base spec 981 Cayman for a waltz through the twisties. Fell in love but thought it just missed something. Since then I took a 981 boxster S on a similar route and fell in love. Handled just as well with that awesome flat 6 sound that I loved my 911 for.

Brakes were sensational, the open-air road roar of the flat six fills in what was missing from the 718.

So after a bit of mucking about I've just put a deposit on this and universe willing I'll pick it up this week / next week:

Welcome to Boxster ownership - type 981 cars (S models in particular) represent a real sweet spot on the used P car market at the moment, being relatively affordable but with strong performance and great value for what they offer. Agate Grey always looks good. Appears to be from a Sydney dealer but if you are based in Melbourne, we should have gathering for 981 models!

? This has been my boss' car, daily drive in fact, for the past 5 years.  The colour combo was the decider for her purchase, she's disappointed that Terracotta isn't a current 981 colour ? Let me know what further detail you would like.....

Congrats @jaw

Looks just like mine that I picked up a few months ago.

I HAVE to own a 911 one day but comparing dollar for dollar and age of what you can get for 911 vs Boxster S I am completely smitten and am sure you will be for a long time also

@Trentw, I think they are 2 quite different cars. Having bought a 996 just before Christmas, I really was wondering whether I had done the right thing, it was such a different car to our Boxster, Tip v manual definitely had some influence.  It was only a nice run over and back on one of our Tassie country highways with wide, open sweeping corners that I started to appreciate the 996, but I still think now, if there's a section of tight, windy roads, I'd rather be driving the Boxster, whereas the 996 is a tourer, so give me that If I've got a 3 hour cruise somewhere....

@TwoHeadsTas Oh I need a 911 cos I told everyone for 15 years I was getting on! Still need to tick that box in my head - but as we both agree - the 981S is amazing!

Looking forward to taking delivery of our 981 (non S though) and comparing it to the 987S.  I suspect it will be every bit as equal, smaller engine and probably brakes not withstanding....

Cheers :)  Yes deffo agree on the value for money!  I still have the modded 996 too which I love but considering I had sold it for almost as much as this 981 its a bit mad (buyer's finance fell through so I took it as a sign and kept her!)

The 911 does things very differently but like for like it's nice having something that's convertible and has most of the thrills! Enjoying it so much more than the 718 I took out.

I was really keen on a 2011 Spyder but the age was against me so went for something newer, which is a shame as the spyders just look sensational!

Collection day yesterday :D I can't wait to take her on a long run this weekend. I'm in NSW not Vic unfortunately (although not ruling out a road trip at some point!)
