Merv Posted 28November, 2018 Report Share Posted 28November, 2018 Whoa! Looks like you will need a new throw-out bearing and/or assembly as well? The 180 and 200mm pressure plate are compatible with VW parts (Kombi and Transporter), I believe. However Sachs is generally seen as the best quality. BWA in Sydney have them normally. My spares are 180mm.
rafikdous Posted 28November, 2018 Author Report Share Posted 28November, 2018 Nope, not compatible with VWs. You need to machine the flywheel 2mm
Merv Posted 9December, 2018 Report Share Posted 9December, 2018 OK. I got my Sachs 180mm from BWA (Porsche numbers) and it works well.
rafikdous Posted 13December, 2018 Author Report Share Posted 13December, 2018 thanks Merv I ended up getting mine from AA Pistons in the USA Fitted it on the weekend. Works now but the pedal travel is still too long. Probably about 50 to 70mm of free travel. So need to do some adjustments still
Merv Posted 14December, 2018 Report Share Posted 14December, 2018 Well done. Adjustment is always needed. And then again after a month or so I find. How was the release bearing? Those fingers on your old plate looked as though something was loose?
rafikdous Posted 18December, 2018 Author Report Share Posted 18December, 2018 Yeah I am puzzled with the condition of the fingers. But the release bearing looked fine
Merv Posted 19December, 2018 Report Share Posted 19December, 2018 I does look as though the release bearing was slipping off its supports. OR the pressure plate was moving around or even the shaft wasn't fully inserted?
rafikdous Posted 6January, 2019 Author Report Share Posted 6January, 2019 No idea Merv, I replaced the pressure plate and have been driving it for a week now. All good so far
