Andy73 Posted 17January, 2019 Report Share Posted 17January, 2019 Interesting to see Harris driving the 992. Sounds positive but doesn't exactly gush...
Peter John Posted 17January, 2019 Report Share Posted 17January, 2019 Just watched this @Andy73 what I was thinking is.... when we all think certain models of porsche are hands clapping perfect, what’s to happen next? Chris didn’t get over excited. It isn’t hugely different. So what does the future hold? Amazing the design process that ze Germans have. I do like the minimalist interior dash. I was behind a 991 turbo yesterday and geez those hips! And the wheel size is huge! Funny the days of 19” wheels being huge seems so long ago. tazzieman Posted 17January, 2019 Report Share Posted 17January, 2019 As the car evolves, the small changes help on track , elsewhere - well we aren't exactly drifting on our public roads are we? Wherein lies the problem ; the new cars are just too capable but vastly overbuilt for general driving , even spirited driving. The problem with getting old is that adrenaline just doesn't flow as easily. Maybe that's why oldies go skydiving? That said , no doubt many will love this iteration of the 911. Andy73 Posted 17January, 2019 Author Report Share Posted 17January, 2019 Read Henry Catchpole's review today and found it both enjoyable and enlightening. He more or less admits to going into the test feeling a bit anxious about it and then goes on to explain his relief at discovering this car really is very, very good. Personally I can't imagine it being any other way but I just think there's something in the styling that makes this car look less - I don't know... fun! Sounds like the opposite is true once behind the wheel. I'm really looking forward to seeing one in real life. Suspect it'll take on a different persona in the flesh. https://www.cnet.com/roadshow/reviews/2020-porsche-911-preview/
sleazius Posted 18January, 2019 Report Share Posted 18January, 2019 Takeaways as they happened while watching this video: Wow - that rear end really does remind me of my old 350z. Even moreso than in photos. Door handles are dreadful. I know hes a small dude, but looks like a bus in there (I think this is just a wide angle lense issue). Like the look of the dash, but no so much the shelf running right to left across the whole car. Is there audio trickery going on in the cabin? Cause it doesn't match the noise from the outside of the car? Could just be an editing issue. Yep, really like the instruments. Don't like that cupholder, or the 'catch all your junk' wedge around the frankly terrible 'shaver'. Love the wide hips. Really dislike a lot of things about the backside, but they've been done to death. /end. He didn't seem all that plussed with the car either. For mine it was more a 'its a 911' reaction. Interesting that he said it was too competent to be exciting, like pretty much all cars these days. Maybe the aircooled guys are onto something! This is the first 911 since the 996 where I'm not sure I dig the styling. But in this case, instead of it being 1 major issue, its a bunch of small issues that add up to more than the sum of their parts. Can't wait to see the GT3, I'm not a big 718 guy, but the GT4 looks good, so maybe a big wing and some other bits and pieces will sway my opinion!
