Netflix, Formula 1: Drive to Survive

Recommended Posts

Started watching Formula 1 Drive to Survive on Netflix today, I have watched the first 5 of 10 episodes so far.

The story is based on the 2018 season with quite a bit of Dan Ricciardo content so far. Having been a F1 fan from the late 70's onwards, I have found this to be an interesting show & can't wait to watch the remaining episodes.

The wife & myself have already christened Christian Horner from Redbull, Mr Ginger Spice as his nickname. Wasn't a real fan of his before, now less so.

I started ep 1 today. It’s by the same team that produced Senna which I watched recently. This appears to be very much the same style, all in the words of the racers, family, managers and crew, not a 3rd party narrator. Far more authentic in my view.  Looking forward to watching the full series.

Have watched the first 4 episodes and I have to say it's not bad.  At least so far they haven't focused on just the top teams.

Is it just me but is Christian Horner a massive Max fanboy. If you didn't know he was already married to ginger spice you would think he was Max's other half.

No wonder Dan (and Webber) got out of there.

I thought Hamilton was a sook (still do) be he's got nothing on Lance Stroll and doesn't daddy not like losing. Just goes to prove money can't buy talent although to be fair you have to be good to get a F1 licence.

Not having Netflix, I can only imagine what Horner is saying. He's just the Red Bull puppet dangling from Helmut Marko's strings. Helmut was pretty open last year or the year before that he wanted nothing but European drivers in the team, and that Max was going to be number one driver, so I'd say Dan didnt have a choice but to look for another ride. It's all backdoor politics at that level (MotoGP included) as it's not really a sport anymore.

Lance Stroll is the quintessential billionaire' spoilt brat. I always laugh when he crashes or blows up 😂

Started watching this and i am really liking it so far, Lance Stroll is a sook, I feel sorry for Williams actually having to have this spoilt rich kid in the team because Daddy is bank rolling them.

Not having Netflix, I've been searching the net to find how to 'Bing' this series after reading your post. I now realise what you mean...I really am stupid 😁🙄

Watched the rest of this series last night, really enjoyed it. Surprised to me was the mrs sat down and watched the last 2 episodes with me 😲.

She liked it as it wasn’t over technical quite entertaining with a good mix of racing and the behind the scenes stuff. She then shocked me with a comment of “maybe we could try and include a GP on our next OS holiday”..... 😍 love her words....keeper

Yet did you record that conversation is the big question?

'Honey...do you remember you said about taking in the GP on our next holiday..'

'Nope. We're going to the flower expo all 4 days that weekend and staying at mums' 😫

I was surprised how much I enjoyed it too.  Particularly surprising as I don't follow F1 at all and most of the drivers I had never heard of.

Also made me realise again how unlikeable elite sports people are.

Successful strategy from the F1 camp to recruit some much needed followers. The racing is dull to say the least so create a semi doco/drama series based around the teams and drivers so all of a sudden people are getting invested in what’s going on. Reality TV at its finest!

Good show, great video.  So much more interesting than the normal race weekends.  Geez Horner is an arrogant twat.  Cyril from Renault couldn't contain his glee at snaring Ricciardo after Horner cancelled the Renault engine order.  Take that mofo......

its a shame that Stroll and Perez get the seats thanks to wealthy backers but Ocon from humble origins misses out.

poor old Grosjean looked like the serial car wrecker/basket case.  Very fast on his one good day a year, brain explosion and crash out the rest of the time.

Sadly that's motorsport on nearly every level...How fast can you afford to go?

That's why I love hill climbing, due to the technicality of most tracks, HP doesn't compensate for lack of driving ability. You see guys rock up in big money, high HP cars and get completely schooled by a 60+ yo guy in an old cooper S packing a 1/4 of the HP!

Very humble and grounded bunch of racers as a result.

With the occasional exception, I think that applies to most of our top sports "stars" over a wide range of sports (and for that matter, many at the top of various professions too.....)

Yep, just look at all codes of football!

@hugh Hillimbs would be great fun I imagine. The Mount Alma mile in Mt Gambier looks like a great run, as does the Willunga one here.

I was pondering whether I should state Medical Specialists, Surgeons, Accountants and Lawyers as some of the various professionals, but I suspect this might include a few forum members😏 (me included.....)

Yep, I'm looking forward to getting involved in Hillclimbs again after many, many years if my GT3 purchase comes off
