DJM Posted 1August, 2019 Report Share Posted 1August, 2019 Never really taken much interest in the base model 911s but jeepers, they are quick these days. 0-100 in 3.3 and 321 km/h 😳 Would make a great daily driver in Europe. Who needs a GT2.....? This thing would smoke my old 996 GT2 and probably not far off a 991 GT2. skip to 5:45 mark for acceleration and 8:40 for top speed. Astonishingly easy. Some may say it's too fast and clinical? Interior looks a lot like panamera and cayenne now too. Im ineurope early next year and have a couple of days in the Swiss alps, I think I just found my rental car 😀 Raven, WOKA, GTP911 and 1 other
WGA Posted 1August, 2019 Report Share Posted 1August, 2019 I recently spent 2 days on the Nordschleife in a 992 S with Porsche. Great car. Very fast. While not as fast as a GT3, you can certainly give them something to think about..especially out of low speed corners and uphill sections. Ultimately, it loses out on braking and corner speed but its still a very, very competent car. JWM, GTP911, hugh and 3 others

Peter M Posted 3August, 2019 Report Share Posted 3August, 2019 How good is that! How frustrating would that be in Australia? Now sure if a copper or a roo would get me first!
SS 3 Posted 29August, 2019 Report Share Posted 29August, 2019 Having driven the 992 2S for the last 24 hours I have to say i'm super impressed not only with the performance which is thrilling; the show stopper however was the new interior and how it functions it blew me away, what a magnificent space to be in. It's the perfect daily driver just not sure i could stomach the depreciation. Note: i jumped in a 991.2 GT3 when back at PCM and took one look at the old dash layout and started dreaming of a 992GT3 TUNERS ARE ON TO THEM ALREADY HOWS 572HP SOUND!!!! https://www.roadandtrack.com/car-culture/buying-maintenance/a28832805/porsche-992-carrera-s-tuning-litchfield/?fbclid=IwAR0WjJSkglO9Cy8ZMrKNXrdSNooidw5mlnUC_MI9uP_cuLFy_JEEGbwWyWo JWM and DJM
sleazius Posted 29August, 2019 Report Share Posted 29August, 2019 In the flesh it reminded me of my old 350z, something about the shortness of the back end. I still can’t deal with that fugly brake light either. Interior is very nice though, and there is no doubting the performance. I sat in a new cayenne recently and it's a similar layout and very nice place to be. It will only propel the P crowd to trade in and upgrade which from Porsche's perspective is the name of the game. PS that Litchfield tune is only stage 1......I still have a bent Conrod (from my 580hp GT2 engine went boom). I use as a paper weight on my desk to remind me what can happen to modified turbo engines 😁 https://drivetribe.com/p/the-992-911-carrera-already-gets-UqIxm4LZTwm9wTMT35fC1Q?iid=QXs98J7JQgWyY6fbUjp-Nw&utm_source=organic&utm_medium=fb&utm_campaign=main+ Are Porsche going to build 992 Turbo and Turbo S - what's the point if you can buy a Carrera and boost beyond 600hp for a lot less coin. I suppose there will always be those guys that have to buy the most expensive 911 just because.

I haven't heard of any but I do know that you cant bury the gas pedal at low revs with turbo engines, this in its self can eventually bend a rod. Coastr Posted 30August, 2019 Report Share Posted 30August, 2019 How I wish there were more unrestricted highways around. Imagine just going out and doing 300 whenever you had the chance. SS 3, KG and DJM

With such large distances to cover in this country an Autobahn or 2 would be nice, at the rate we are going freeway speeds will be dropped to 80kmh. Yeah probably although after it happened I did some googling and found a fair few examples. Fitzy reckons they maintained the GT3 rods in the turbo engines and they were a known weak link in boosted engines. You'd hope they'd learnt by now so the 992 should be robust 🤔 Pretty amazing that a carrera S now outs out what a 996 GT2 did. Mine failed at maybe 3000rpm in second gear off the lights. Gave it a boot full and Ka........boom.

I really think PDK is best matched with turbo engines, at least that way you're always in the right gear at the right revs and not likely to course any damage. Yes amazing with all the progress Doug, I had a 992 4S for a day as a loaner, very nice car but boy prices have risen quite a lot, it was 350k !! You have in a sense outlined how they will probably differentiate these cars, making sure the internals are made more robust to handle the extra boost .... I suppose. Hopping out of the 992 S and back into the 997.2GT3CS on my way home I couldn't help but marvel at how good the feel and sound is of this ageing Motorsport Car. I can't help but wonder what a 3-4 year old 992s will be worth ? 😁😁😁😁

Yeah was thinking about this all day. Why can't Australia have some decent roads? We have the space and the distance. Sooner or later some stupid idiot is going to propose an eleventy billion high speed rail again. Why not borrow that other European invention, the high speed autobahn? I mean, I'd even settle for a 180k limited road. I think you'd be able to get 4.5 hours Sydney to Melbourne (outskirts to outskirts) with an autobahn. Almost as fast than the plane if you add finding a park, walking to terminal, check-in and wait for bags at the other end. Then there would be no reason not to buy a turbo porsche. I mean, it would just make business sense, right? SS 3
