Merv Posted 22September, 2019 Report Share Posted 22September, 2019 I have read*dozens of threads on this, but some background first. *I replaced the indicator/headlight flasher switch a few days ago as high beam wasn't operating. *All good afterwards. *Car drove and started perfectly for several day afterwards. *This morning however, there is no immobiliser LED flashing and thus:No start, no dash gauges working. *Headlights work fine (no dimming with ignition switch on) and all fuses show ultra low resistance in the fuse box. The earths all seem fine and the connections to the starter seem all intact.Any ideas? Many thanks Merv
Merv Posted 22September, 2019 Author Report Share Posted 22September, 2019 Problem solved I believe. It seems that the factory immobiliser was replaced with a 674Ri unit some time ago. I was thinking that I would have to start from first principles. However .... after pulling out all the under dash wires and checking the light switch connections (thinking I had done something wrong in the installation of the new turn signal/dimmer switch) and checking the central locking relay and ECU connection, I pulled off the driver side kick panel near the accelerator pedal and found an earth wire had not been connected properly by a PO. The nut had fallen off! Clamped that up and it works again! I am thinking that I will remove that dammed immobiliser at some stage.
SC 3.2 Posted 22September, 2019 Report Share Posted 22September, 2019 Immobilisers are a curse inflicted on many a classic car by well meaning insurance companies...they eventually cause heartache. Clumsy installation usually corrupts the original wiring harness leading to problems.
Merv Posted 23September, 2019 Author Report Share Posted 23September, 2019 I agree. It is scheduled. I keep finding wiring that is cut off or left dangling that indicates the life of a 30 year old car. It would be good to start again.
