Gavn Posted 24September, 2019 Report Share Posted 24September, 2019 Ok - time to let this go to the next person. Consolidating cars & storage. 1978 928 LHD german car.....privately imported to Aus by original owner who then got Porsche to convert to RHD (amazingly...guess he really loved his 928). Details verified by Porsche. At some point converted to a tarmac rally car in WA, about which time it was given the manual gearbox out of a 928GT. The next owner (Troy Stapleton) had an engine developed and dropped in.....5.0 litre Porsche 928 tickled up a little (work done by Perkins group) and running a motec system. Stapleton sold it on & it ended up with the bloke I purchased it from (Paul Dortkamp), who used it for pcnsw events, drive bathurst etc. prior to tracking a cayman (interestingly his track spec cayman could not get within 3 sec of the 928 times around bathurst..so that's a guide to pace). It was looked after by Dave at East Coast Suspension in Pauls ownership years and by Dave at Cavacos since I've had it. Details: 5 litres on M298 block Cross drilled crankshaft, high lift cams, ported & flowed heads Clover leaf baffled sump Motec m48 engine management (PRT have the hardware & software to tune on a dyno but I've sadly not made it over there in two years) Has been dyno tuned ot 183 & 202kw at rear wheels in the past. Not dyno tuned under my ownership nor PO....it doesn't feel like it needs more hp. Remote oil cooler and S4 twin fans both thermo controlled and on manual override switch 5 speed manual, G28/55 LSD, short shift kit, heavy duty twin plate race clutch. S4 brakes, cryogenically treated slotted & dimpled rotors Coilovers with koni adjustables Hypercoil springs S4 upper arms & early lower arms allowing up to 5 degrees of negative camber Interior stripped, lightweight door trim Two sets of Simmons wheels one with fairly fresh r spec toyos - 3 track days on them (second set with tyres that need to be replaced) Weight 1345kg Cams approved cage log booked Currently on conditional registration. Two ring binders filled with receipts, notes, documentation, wiring diagrams, part numbers etc It's a track car & presents as such. I have had one of the rear quarters tidied up wrt paintwork, replaced a ball joint (new lhs still in box). Probably the next job would be to get both front & rear bumpers refinished. I have done three track days in this car & about 1000kms on the road in the two years I've had it. It got driven 8 times in 2020, 6 of which were road runs purely to exercise the car. It can be driven on the road (have had it on conditional plates) but it's not really happy changing gears under 3000rpm & you wouldn't recommend it for commuting. 2nd gear synchro is unhappy on the way down (fine going up)...which is not a problem if you're a better shifter than me but it will need a freshen up at some point. To my knowledge everything else in the engine & drivetrain is fine. There is minimal marine style carpet and the exhaust has been heat wrapped and that's about the total of comfort based appointments. It pulls quite hard (as a point of reference our 950kg 2.7litre high compression 912 cannot keep up) and is a lot of fun to drive...albeit very different to a 911 feel. The original front seats & trim are shrink wrapped on a pallet & available as an additional purchase should you wish to return it to a lightweight road car at some point. The reality is it's a converted and modified 928 making I reckon a base value of 20k along with a 180k receipt folder. Asking 31500. It's definitely going this time so I'll leave it here for a week before putting it on my105. ANF and crsedge
