Hi @spiller yes I picked it up in SA and have since been in contact with Rob - the most recent owner.

I bought it from Mark Buik

Has had a full resto and some more development since then. Is a 3.8 n.a with 300 hp at the wheels and now 990 kgs plus some suspension work

Very cool mate, I was on track with it on its last outing at Mallala, shitful day it was. Glad to see it back on track where it belongs.

@spiller yes full ground up, took about 8 months to complete.

Nothing like a 996, it’s a handful compared to my GT3. It makes you really work for pace - but is a bucket load of fun.

In Tassie for those not familiar with Symmons Plains.

John Youl gets a good mention in Geoff Smedley's Book "It's a Smedley Thing".  Geoff was John's race mechanic for a number of years, who also worked with many of Australia's motor Racing Who's Who from that era.

This must have been one of the earliest 356s to arrive in Australia. Any idea where it is now or what else it got up to mate?

Here is my car, getting close to coming home for assembly following bare metal repaint

First time I’ve seen it in speed yellow. Carbon doors are painted, but putting the factory doors on to get it through roadworthy etc

Western Suburbs Body Works, seems ok - I have been checking in along the way.

Will pass judgement on final inspection- but it looks ok

I have had other cars done there in the past

Very cool, bring it back up to Leyburn at some stage - that would be cool to re live the photo

Love the story also, we are custodians of these pieces of history 👌

Haven’t decided what I’m doing with it yet. On the fence to keep or not.

@OBRUT If more in the later than sooner period (my relatively recent Cheetah Mk6 purchase and ongoing MR2 full drivetrain rebuild has depleted the toy fund) please also keep us in mind.

Lovely piece of Australian motoring history!
